NJ pretty scathing about Leaburn to Louis. Would be surprised if he starts next week
Jones is the problem and his negative football.

Jones must be forgetting Miles put one on a plate for grant today who managed to miss the ball completely.

That was miles behind grant. He would've had to do something very special with it to score

Leaburn looks better on the right wing! Ive said it before!

Save a position up front for someone who knows where the back of the net is, solves right wing

It was behind Grant because Grant went too far forward. If he had held his ground he would have had an easy chance to score from the pull back by Miles.

Yh Leaburn I know you only 22, worked your socks off all season massively improved your overall game from last year but you’ve missed 3 chances all season so I’m going to throw you under the bus.

Oh Skipp and Coventry I know your experienced professionals both getting played through every week but I’m going to continue to play you week in week out regardless.

    Great one Nathan

I dont think he's good enough to lead the line on his own. Has a flash of brilliance each game, but can't score and can't hold the ball up. Watford's 9 turned a long ball into attack so often for them today. Something we desperately need.
He can and definitely does hold the ball up

Two goals in 49 appearances at this level.

Yes we can applauded work rate & link up play but a striker is meant to strike. He's averaging a goal every 6 months. It's not his fault he's being hung out to dry but realistically he's not a championship level player at the moment

Ivan Mesik was part of a defence that conceded 74 goals last season but I don’t think anyone has a problem with his defending.

If Leaburn was a good goalscorer he wouldn’t be at the club because this season he’s shown he offers a lot outside of scoring. Expected goals is a stat which isn’t for everyone but he’s  scored 2 in the championship and he should have a predicted 6 which yes shows he’s not scoring enough but it’s not like he’s missing sitters on the weekly

These are the sort of numbers his old man had at the start of his Charlton career , admittedly in the top flight and he split the fan base as well .
Carl was super Clive Mendonca’s favourite partner

Seem to remember Leaburn senior going a whole season without scoring

I dont think Miles is the problem. He needs 2 wingers putting balls into the box, not long hopeful balls up to him. But right wing is the problem. So you could play Kelman with him as a partner, but then where do you play TC. You could try Kelman up top on his own, but then we have no-one playing balls through the middle while chalobah is injured.
The squad is a mess, I don't have the answers, but more worrying, I dont thing NJ does either

He should have scored the header today but you’re looking at the wrong place if you’re blaming him. Andy Cole one or the premier leagues all time great strikers was renowned for needing 3 chances to score. Leaburns had 3 chances all season.

If you leave it to chance and aim to scrape 1-0 wins without having any kind of attacking system, strategy or fluidity then what are you expecting

Darren bent said at half it was a finish of someone with zero confidence, I said the same as soon as he missed it, I feel for him because we don’t play to his real strengths and I don’t include battering ram in that list of qualities, our play and NJ are turning him into he is not. For his sake I hope he is benched, start Kelman and actually play to his strengths and we might be better on the eye, but NJ needs to grow some and attempt to get us playing.

why not play Leaburn and play to his strengths. The system and lack of creative quality is the problem not Leaburn. I’m pretty sure it won’t take more than a few games of Kelman starting for the penny to drop again (like it was when he could barely get a touch the first 3 months last season)

I think Leaburn should be played with a striker in front of him, Grant or Godden maybe… the great work he’s doing now is deeper/ outside the box , whereas Grant is doing fuck all being played deeper

With respect mate, 30 games zero goals and he’s had chances, that’s why give Kelman a run. Miles is a victim of our style of play but he needs to take chances when they come along.

Play leaburn to his strengths? We have put it on his head twice in the past two games, and he has put it over bar! Twice!

Agreed. As in. The problem is the style. Not missing one sitter.

Leaburn's pass to grant got a tiny touch off a defender that took it behind him. Was decent defending mot either of their fault.

Leaburn had a lot of time for the header, he's thinking too and about scoring and not attacking the ball to get  it in the net

Or we need a system that gives our strikers more chances. Players and teams need match practice so they can get sharper and hone their skills. 30 games is all very well but if you’re not getting the chance to practice finishing in those 30 games you’re unlikely to go on a goalscoring run

for every “he’s a striker his job is to score goals” I can raise you “he’s a midfielder/ winger his job is to create chances”.

True we create next to nothing as a team but even from set plays he's not doing the business

Our problem since the beginning of last season has been zero creativity from midfield and nothing, including Chalobah, has been done to address that problem. Sideways and backwards gets you nowhere.
Mwamba showed what can be done but our system leaves our midfield exposed time and time again.
It doesn't matter who plays up front if there's nothing behind it

Exactly what I was going to say

will we see the return of “I saw Leaburn score” t shirts?
  • Were he to play behind a striker, he has the skill and the speed to beat his man, play a one two with the more advanced forward, and then get through on goal.
He's very good at turning the defender, then getting away from them. We saw it a couple of times yesterday.
Playing deeper would mean that he wouldn't be so tightly marked and would find more space in which to operate.
He's not a 6 yard box poacher, he needs to be on the move, before getting his shot away.
We need to start utilising our players' strengths.

His Dad was better at holding up the ball and will likely end up with more career goals than Miles which I didn't ever think I'd be able to say.

Those saying Leaburn would do better with more service, he's been getting some service but struggles to even hit the target with it.
He either needs a goalscorer next to him or to come out of the side.
