Jones will go to Cardiff and get sacked by Tan in November after they lose their third game in a row against Northampton (they would go up via playoffs if they kept him).
Charlton are struggling in the Championship. 23rd at Christmas. Whichever poor bloke comes in after Jones is let go as well.
Mid-January and Jones comes back grovelling saying it was a stupid decision to leave. We rehire him and stay up.
Then he leaves next summer for the newly relegated Sunderland.
Not impossible he’s trying to put a bit of pressure on owners for more of a transfer kitty either
Would he be allowed to speak to Cardiff / Plymouth without the owners permission though?
When Jones went for the Millwall job, one reason he didn’t get it was the fact that he asked for a release clause. No idea if he asked for similar from Charlton.
If he went to Cardiff now after getting us promoted and failed no one would touch him again
I mean that’s definitely not true, he’s clearly a good manager and now has a couple of promotions on his CV. Would easily be hired at league 1 level even if he goes to Cardiff now and gets sacked halfway through the season

If he leaves now, no Charlton fan would want him back. That said, can’t see it.
1, 3 years left on his contract 2, no doubt trousered a nice increase for promotion 3, one promotion from the Premier League 4, Dropping down a division

This is a total non-starter.
Like you’ve always said Elfie…….it’s all down to the money.
If posters on here had a good track record of always being right, I'd rest easy, but I won't until Cardiff have a new manager in place that isn't Jones. Logic doesn't come into it sometimes, but I suppose with him bring such a rational level headed guy, I'm worrying unnecessarily.
For those saying, if they were a manager of a newly promoted championship club, but would be happy to drop down a division if Charlton came knocking, here's a scemario.
The year is 2016 and you've just won at Wembley with Barnsley, (beating the spanners 3-1). The Addicks have just been relegated. They approach you to become their new boss. They are owned by a very dislikable character, that doesn't want to invest in the squad, thinks he knows better than the manager regarding appointments and looks to switch managers every 6 months.
Would you honestly say you'd take it? I certainly wouldn't.
I realise their owner isn't the same as the rat, but he's hardly a stable character.

In the version of that story I’d heard it was a clause that allowed him to speak with top half Championship clubs. It’s probably all bollocks anyway.

If they are actually interested in Jones then the owner is definitely still investing. He won’t be cheap if they do get him
Even though I think it would be a backwards move, and it would be ridiculous after what he has achieved. If he is approached and they are willing to pay, he's gone imo.
He has left Luton twice with arguably more of a connection to them than us for better opportunities and if he's a man of his word, he would leave for Cardiff, hard to ignore this quote.
Jones left Luton to move upwards, not downwards. Cardiff isn't an attractive proposition at the moment.
Doesn't matter to me. He said he would never turn down Cardiff. If he's a man of his word, he will go if they approach.
If I was a Champ manager, and my club in the league below offered me, and I knew I could get them promoted, while paying me similar or potentially more, I'd be off.
I'm just hoping they haven't approached him cause I think he will be off.
He's still bitter about the November period, he still mentions it, and he has openly said on numerous occasions Cardiff is his dream job.
He's still bitter about Southampton and he's still bitter about Stoke. Its the guys nature.
He may go, if he is not backed, but everything points to him being backed, after turning around a nutjob of a club. But why would he go to a nutjob of a club that Cardiff is. Yes her said he would not turn them down, but he never said his agent wouldn't and did he swear that on the bible.
You wonder if this is being put out there to leverage the owners’ transfer kitty.
Either way, it’s not a comfortable situation. We’ve had so much shite behind the scenes I’d rather a boring summer with purely recruitment. Also, the last two league one promotions have been derailed by lack of boardroom support.

I heard it was very much on Jones’ terms & basically allowed him to walk away as he pleased. And so Millwall decided to pass, even though Jones made the last two & was probably the preferred choice, all things being equal.

Who next, Luton.
I don't believe for a second he would level us for Plymouth.
He might go Cardiff in 1 or 2 seasons, but it certainly won't be now.

On the other hand, Nathan Jones said to a fan that "we're fackin loaded".
Never a boring day at Charlton.

Beyond that I have no idea.
With them in league 1 though I can’t really see it happening. Plymouth is a complete non starter.

I’ve heard that somewhere before. Must be the same person.
