Nathan Jones speculation - Cawley says indications are no chance Jones going to Cardiff (p20)

  • Any football club that gets promoted know that the likelihood is that they will need to invest to compete in the division higher or they are likely to come straight back down. The teams that don’t invest are in the main having to operate on a small budget. Our ownership group are not winging it trying to do things on a shoestring, yes they will set budgets of course they will but they have serious money and didn’t buy the club to get relegated!! They will provide the funds required in 100% sure
  • If he leaves to go to Cardiff he deserves to have his career destroyed. He claimed he learnt his lesson from leaving Luton (twice!).

I think it’s complete rubbish tbh.
  • Jones is going nowhere.

1, 3 years left on his contract
2, no doubt trousered a nice increase for promotion
3, one promotion from the Premier League
    4, Dropping down a division

    This is a total non-starter.
    This.

If we had lost last Sunday then he might have thought about it. But now we are Championship & Cardiff are League 1 then no chance.
  • And there should be no isssue regarding transfer kitty. Unless we spend money....and spend well, then we will be back in League 1 after just a season.

Owners now need to dig deep. No half measures.

There’s no way Jones has spent the last 18 months, working his nuts off to restore his reputation and get himself back into the championship to go straight back into league one for anyone.

Can we have the football back please 🙏
We have another 2 months of this.
  • Would imagine Wellens will be snapped before the new season begins

As an aside when did Jones become a born again Christian? And why ?

By the last question it seems to me that people are ‘born again’ after some sort of tragedy or mental crisis.

    What was his moment?

I mean I don’t think many people are born again when “actually things are going really very  well at the moment. My children are doing well at school. I’ve just been promoted at work,  my doctor says I have the body of a 25 year old and my wife is always begging me for more conversations about Charlton and trains”.

    Bit harsh on Foxy
  • I think that despite him being a Cardiff City fan, I do genuinely think that club are on the slide.  If he chooses to go there, then I think that would be naivety on his part

there are a lot of clubs that have been swimming around the mid to lower table of the championship for a few years now that have either been in the prem, or are poorly run

I’m not saying we’re a club on the up, but he knows there’s a bit more stability here than Cardiff - they aren’t Brum or Wrexham, they aren’t going to have a huge league one budget and looking at the teams in league one next year, it’s going to be tight

you can’t get in someone’s head, but I think as tough as it would be to keep us up next year, he’s better off here than there
  • Like I said earlier, if there’s been contact then Charlton will want it put to bed very quickly. We can’t go into June not having a manager and needing a recruitment process taking weeks.

    Would be very strange indeed.
Not if he sees the writing on the wall.

Not saying this is what is happening, but making the point that nothing is impossible in football. The wage budget is currently at least less than half every other team in the Championship. Without significant investment, Charlton could come straight back down. Whereas, he could lead Cardiff City straight back up & have double or more his current budget when back in the Championship.

He certainly doesn’t lack belief in his abilities. But is pretty fragile ego wise. He may think the season could be a struggle & Charlton fans will quickly be on his back again. Whereas at Cardiff City he could play the home boy hero turning the club around.

Again, not saying that is the case at all. But it’s what the post on the Plymouth forum suggests (oh the irony 😂). And nothing would surprise me in football. Nothing.
Well, yeah, but the club just doubled its revenue. Roland was the only one who thought you could just use the extra to offset the operating loss and still stay up. It’s reasonable to suppose the current ownership has more interest in what happens next than he did.
I believe they do. But I don’t think they are going to be benevolent owners willing to write off millions each season either. Their hardnosed attitude to the season ticket prices show that. This is another good litmus test.

My worry though is Rodwell will be the next  CEO and hence not enough NEW thinking generally.

Sorry but am a bit out of touch supporter so at risk of asking the obvious why isnt there any comment on rumours Nathan Jones is wanted by Cardiff. Am sure this is ridiculous but folk in South Wales dont seem to think so.
Because it’s a load of bollocks and not worth commenting on
