Some context for those who thought 5-1 flattered Chelsea.

Chelsea had 9 more shots in total, and 6 more on target, than Man City did in their 10-1 win at home to Exeter.

We also had less possession than Exeter did, 40 less accurate passes and less big chances (1 for us. 4 Exeter).

Some context to your context. Man City were 4 up in the first half and seriously took their foot off the gas despite still scoring 6 more. They started  a 17yr old who was making his debut and the defender they recalled from Watford was making his second appearance for City. 2 of the subs they brought on were 17 & 18 years old. Chelsea brought on World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez and had 1 academy player on the pitch all night and he's played nearly 30 games for the club

I thought Mannion did really well, but a lot of the saves he made, felt routine... Had he conceded any of those efforts it would have been poor Goalkeeping from memory... Maybe the one at the end the exception

Please ask them to NOT do any song that we have stolen from other teams (with an honourable exception for VFR), or that are generic and we just fit our owns words in (Gillesphey's head FFS).

Teach them "Yippee Aye Ay". Not sure if it's original, but no one else did / does it.

Start singing about us, and not about the opposition. "Your support is f*cking shit" winds me up, particularly when it's not (and ours sometimes is).

Stop singing Alez Alez Alez...,and now you're gonna believe us, The Reds are going up"... We clearly aren't.

Change the words for the Pompey song to "We sometimes lose at Fratton Park", ahead of next seasons match.

Also not that it massively matters but extra added context, Chelsea had a number of shots on target from outside the box. When we are at our defensive best, teams struggle to get into the box and are limited to shots from range. For a lot of the first half at least we restricted Chelsea to shots outside the box.

With regards to fans, there was a group of several people to my right, some of whom came in several minutes after the match had started. They then headed to the concourse on 44 minutes (missing the first goal), came back in about 10 minutes into the second half (missing the second goal) then they all left 10 minutes before the end (missing the last two goals). Overall, they must have missed a quarter of the match - just why??

Don't know what to think after that. My emotions are all over the place. Angry, annoyed, pissed off and feeling sorry for the lads - didn't deserve that scoreline at the end.

Will need to cool down before I post sensibly but all I will say is this.....we certainly need a LWB by next Saturday.

Oh......and the club is a shambles. Toilet block in the AC stand had a floor full of piss. Cant use 2 of the cubicles or the far end urinal unless you want to be able deep in the stuff.

Utterly shambolic on & off the pitch.

Might want to look at your fellow fans for that.
Do we not have stewards or stadium staff who can sort it out during the game ? This is 2025. ....not 1975.
Can fellow fans not act like normal human beings and not piss all over the floor?
They didn't piss on the floor. The urinal got block & overflowed. I could see that when I went in before the game around  9.40pm. Was 10x worse when I went back in again after the game had finished.
It has been like that for months now. It really is a disgrace.
Has anyone previously reported it / complained to the club?

Whilst the club should proactively check / manage it’s also true that they can’t fix what they don’t know about / is annoying people.

I have the same position on graffiti and broken pavements etc in the borough - report it and make it known. Don’t give them the wriggle room to ignore.
Yes I have reported it previously, more than once,  on the post match feedback emails the club periodically send.
I’ve reported it in person. There is no excuse and it’s disgusting.
Ok, I'm prepared for the usual moans that some of us are never satisfied/enjoy critising our club etc.

But am I the only Lifer to believe that there have been more than usual issues recently regarding lack of response to genuine complaints by loyal fans on here who are clearly NOT airing their grievances " for the sake of it "? Disabled parking, toilets, cost of food at the club to mention just a few.

Basically, the majority highlight the lack of information from the club, lack of response to emails sent/ messages left , feedback questionnaire results never published ( should anyone have been able to complete them with no "n/a " box to tick if applicable ) plus there must be others who don't use our brilliant platform but who have issues to be dealt with.

To play that old record one more time, my opinion is that there are too many "groups" listed under "Fans" on the website but NO indication of who has responsibility for dealing with /responding to specific issues.

Does anyone know just how many "groups" are listed ( no peeking !) or which of them might deal with your particular query ? No, neither do I.

2 of those listed are club employees( Supporter Liaison Officer  & Disability Liaison Officer ) Neither has a named employee nor a telephone number for contact. Hmmm.

Then we have 2 Fan Advocates ( named but nor even an email address between them ..maybe contact by pigeon post ?) , Task & Complete Groups ( could they be currently working on your on the area of your important/urgent issue  but we'll never know), and then the Advisory Board - "independent of the club " but (also) makes sure that " a diverse range of  views & ideas inform the future of the direction of the club - including its fan engagement ". Any clearer on the best way to have your issue dealt with ? No, neither am I !

Of course, we must not forget those who represent the less than a handful of Supporter Groups still in existence - you are very fortunate if you have an active Group representative to convey any of your issues  when they meet twice a year....but can you wait that long ?

So, to summarise once again ( although my fear is of flogging that poor old nag one more time) we, the fans, are seemingly well supported at times we might feel the need to be, but eeny, meeny, miny moe , who shall we choose to lend an ear & how do we contact them ?

In a nutshell, do we have too many cooks & who are they ?

Answers on a pc ...but who would we address it to ?  :)

I tend to look at shots inside the penalty area moreso than total shots or shots on target now. Those shots are the ones that tend to hurt the most often so if you’re creating those openings, whether or not they’re on target, you’re doing something right. Outside the area, while they can in now and again, aren’t as much of a problem.

    Shots Inside (Man C v Exeter): 10-5

Shots Inside (Charlton v Chelsea): 8-18

But break that down a bit more… Half of Chelsea’s 18 shots in the area came after Miles’ goal, at the point where we started chasing the game a bit more. We didn’t have another.

At the point Miles scored, it was 8-9 in Chelsea’s favour. A close game in terms of chance creation.

When we opened up, chased the game, took it to them, they found space in between and doubled their count of shots from inside our penalty area. Not only that, but getting more aggressive completely killed our discipline and meant we were unable to fashion more of our own chances.

In the interview aired on Cawley's substack, NJ is incredibly frustrated with the third goal, and says he's told the team not to drop deep and leave the edge of the box free because we keep conceding from it. He says he's shown them on a 50-foot screen... Told them 20-30 times, what more can he do.

It seems that the player dropping too deep for their third is Greg Docherty, trying to double up on Garnacho and leaving the edge of the box free. He gets a lot of plaudits for organising, but perhaps wasn't doing it there.

Laddick01 post is very amusing but it's not just a parody as it does accurately reflect a certain type of supporter who is the "Prawn Sandwich" supporter mentioned decades ago by Roy Keane.
If their young kids kick the chair in front it's because their parents believe in self expression. They may only turn up for 50% of their 5 season tickets because they are skiing, sailing, or having the one to one lessons in Languages, fencing, show jumping, rock climbing and networking which is "vital for personal advancement".*
Mr Grumpy exists at all clubs, home and away and probably Neighbours as well ! CAFC have plenty of Mr and Mrs Grumpy but there is mitigation TBF.

Other than Mr or Mrs Grumpy, Charlton have hardly any of these supporters because the sad truth is Charlton Athletic isn't a sexy club to support; I thought Prince William may support CAFC after a trip to Sparrows lane but when he stated he wanted to be different to his schoolmates and go for an underdog team, he obviously didn't mean a dachshund with it's bollocks hitting the ground as he went for Aston Villa instead 🤷🏻‍♂️😀

That's life and I cherish every day plus hopefully I will forgive Kayne Ramsay one day but it's too soon and the pain is still raw 😢

    * These are real people that I knew when I managed a boy's team in Tandridge, Surrey and the Chelsea supporting parents thought Abramovich was a nice Foreign saviour.

Teach them "Yippee Aye Ay". Not sure if it's original, but no one else did / does it.

Start singing about us, and not about the opposition. "Your support is f*cking shit" winds me up, particularly when it's not (and ours sometimes is).

Thanks, but that would reduce us to a millwall level of preciousness who are only allowed to sing one song plus that monk drone thing - also, just to be totally correct, yippee aye ay was stolen / converted from a villa chant and vfr from forest - RRR is definitely ours however so i will focus my cordial and diplomatic chat around that - i appreciate their efforts but think a bit of guidance / discussion on this is needed. I think they are probably trying to make sure the team are met by a chant as they come out but its misguided if you ask me

Just one other thing about the pre-match arrangements and Pyrotechnics. On the 7th January the clubs official site released 'Information for supporters attending Chelsea Tie' Ed Warrick is part of a video presentation, on that message, it specifically asks supporters to be in their seats earlier than usual because of the crowds expected, there is even a picture of the pyrotechnics to give you a clue as to what may happen pre-match, the bars stopped serving 30 mins before the kick off so you could drink up, get to the turnstile and get to your seat. I drove up from Chartham for the game, parked up at Flamstead road walked down to Bartrams, got in after a little wait and had a Peroni top, and then went to upper tier 13 gate and was in my seat ten minutes before kick off. My point being is that if I can do that then so can you, I do it most games, it's my ritual, I actually love my football club for all it's faults and I will keep making that journey and make sure I'm there ready for my Peroni top and in my seat ready to cheer the boys on, I would suggest that those of you who see my football club as just a verbal punch bag should fuck off and support some other team, I understand Chelsea reserves are looking for supporters.
I also entered upper tier gate 13. I could have used upper tier gate 14, as per instructions on my ticket, but that was closed.

Operational issues are a fair criticism. Broken toilets, broken turnstiles, no lock on trap 3, poor food, poor service. We shouldn’t just suck it up.

And a “Peroni top” is in the same league as a white Americano - words that should never be uttered in a football ground. 😉
I can see the point of a Peroni top. I’d have the bottle and leave the top with the server.

So Fanny, do we know who the Museum contact when they have a problem with the facilities within that area ? I think more digging is needed and until someone tells me different then the term or position of facilities manager at the Valley doesn't exist within the club, unless it's part of the Sparrows Lane set up.

So Fanny, do we know who the Museum contact when they have a problem with the facilities within that area ? I think more digging is needed and until someone tells me different then the term or position of facilities manager at the Valley doesn't exist within the club, unless it's part of the Sparrows Lane set up.
Does anyone know if John McDonald is still the stadium manager ?

  • Is a “Big” match now defined by the amount of chancers selling scarves & merch outside the ground included the dreaded “ half & half scarves”? The stand opposite the club shop takes a special award with Superman Curbs, A suited and booted Nathan & Ginger Lives Matters flag ! COYA

Enjoyed the game but sadly got pick pocketed in the East Stand concourse.

The lovely person responsible managed to spend £180 across 5 separate transactions at the stadium and a further £90 on their route home before the card was blocked.

Fortunately I have already got the money back from my bank, but I’d love to meet them to ask how they managed to get served on 5 separate occasions throughout the game! I had to queue for over 25 minutes just to use the toilets!

The steward for blocks Q and R in the West did a sterling job throughout the match. He gave up trying to stop day trippers bringing beers up after about 30 minutes to concentrate on getting people into the right seats. There definitely seemed to be more people than seats as a lot stayed on the concourse.

Having watched back the highlights, the defending for all the goals was pretty woeful.
Wayward header by Bell for first , Campbell falling asleep again then hacks  down the winger for the free kick  that led to the 2nd … 3rd was error by Mannion and the 5th was an error by the ref

any other requests whilst i'm at it? anyone else think 'cafc, we hate millwall' is a drippy effort of a song?- i agree with the sentiment but it really is a shit song

We rarely lose is more positive yet still accurate :)
In the last few years. Not sure how that will scan.

Don't care about the score, absolutely devastated that Bell has pulled up again though. I honestly think he or an equivalent is the difference between survival and relegation. If we haven't already we need to sign a LCB with some pace, whatever it costs. Add a LWB to that and we'll be ok. Lots to like in terms of our endeavour. Mannion did quite well, though he sent plenty of shots back towards attackers as all keepers do because football is real life. I don't think he'll get the stick Kaminski would. Which is fine, it's just Kaminski shouldn't get it either. Gough I thought was pretty good until the end when he started getting spun like a top by fresh attackers. He's good enough as a third choice RCB but I am still praying for a quick return for Ramsay. I think we'll feel the loss of TC as well, I hope that's not a long one. We went into the window needing a LWB, a centre mid and competition for TC, add a quick LCB to that urgently
I thought there was a stark contrast between Mannion's excellent saves where he directed the ball away for corners or out wide for the most part & Kaminski who parries most of his saves straight back centrally.

One game is not proof of anything, but on last night's performance Mannion easily deserves a run in the team.

His saves (as above) were better, his catching was better, he commanded the area better and he gave me no concerns (unlike Kaminski).

    PWR.

Kishin Parmar is listed as Facilities and Health and safety Manager

I do find it odd that for people that apparently love this club etc, quite a few on here, find it so easy to criticise, the club, manager, players so often and so easily. Now there is nothing wrong with constructive criticism but to just complain about everything makes me wonder why they bother. The club are on an upward trajectory why not enjoy the ride because things have been a lot worse.
Agreed to a point however it’s not unreasonable to expect to be able to get through the turnstile, have a drink and a bite to eat and be able to use working toilets. Personally I hate all the varied kick off times too.
I think that’s down to the individual and what you go to football for. Personally I don’t eat or drink in the stadium, I don’t often queue for long and I’m patient, covered end toilets you have to wait for a bit but are ok, not saying others experience is acceptable by the way. Modern football is what it is, the club would have been happy for the extra revenue and are not going to say no thanks.
I get a couple of Pepsi max's and the odd bovril and go for the football, must be 15 years since I had a beer at a game, however for many the experience includes having a drink and a snack. I do think the Valley struggles with a capacity crowd however. An extra six thousand does push the facilities to the limits.
It does,it used to deal with it though, things for the new owners to learn. We have fallen from grace a long way, but we are building things up again, patience is required.
Patience, the service has been shocking for years.
I’ve no doubt, I can only comment on personal experience and these things haven’t had much of downside to my match day experience. God knows how people would feel about walking over the monkey nut shells back in the day!!🙄
And the 'rivers of piss' coming down the big East terrace! You've never had it so good!

Tbh the first half annoyed me as we just sat to deep and got deeper, just stood there watching chelsea pass the ball around until they scored . Second half we decided to go at them ... why didnt we do this in the first half
Lost the first half 0-1, the second 1-4. Reason enough?
Point is cup upsets happen because teams go for it from the off , we didnt in that first half
