Can take set pieces nicely too - two corners and a free kick goal here in September last season (before his long injury)

  • Any left back is an improvement! Welcome Luke. Hopefully we can get another in so we have cover
    this .. but w t f can't we sign someone who's got a proven fitness record .. I just do  not understand why Jones & Co persistently sign potential casualties f f s !!
They're cheaper and/or there's less competition for them, let's be honest.

I'm going to be optimistic about this one. I remember we threw both Jay daSilva and Ian Maatsen straight in the deep end, and both did themselves proud. I loved watching daSilva, he was the JRS type light in the gloom that season and I'm surprised he hasn't done better in his career. Maatsen of course has gone on to make a few people on here look pretty dumb.

Not sure he will be ready for 90 mins at the Toolbox, so  I hope we are smart about this. But with that proviso, thumbs up fro me, good luck, Luke.

And as an aside, I think both Dykes and Clarke have looked promising so far. I am still haunted by the 2019-20 season, and the injury crisis that sank us, but we are already doing way better in this window than the Southall circus did. Who was the midfielder again? David Davies, right?

Got to love football fans - does anyone know where we could find a high quality Premier League loan at left back at a reasonable price with lots of Championship experience and no history of injuries?

Start of last season he played in all of Wigan's first 11 games. Then was out injured from October to March. Came back for two games, played 62 mins and 70 mins (ironically against us) then got injured again.
Didn't play again until two weeks ago when he played 45 minutes on 9 Jan and 62 mins on 17 Jan for Liverpool's U21s.

He's played 107 minutes of football in 10 months and hasn't played a full 90 minutes since October 2024. Let's hope he can get up to speed quickly.
At his age i could go on the piss all Saturday and still play a full 90 minutes on a Sunday.
Trust me if he ain't carrying an injury  he should be fit to last 90 minutes

    Additional quote from NJ

We desperately needed an injury prone Left Back and in Luke, I think we’ve found our man.

That’s just not how modern elite level sport works though. We ain’t signing someone for Sunday league now are we?

He played on loan for Millwall too, in Jan 2025, so the toolbox should not be any kind of culture shock for him.
"His only senior football to date came with a loan spell at Championship side Millwall, and only played four times for The Lions"
    Wrong player

Are you suggesting I wasn't at elite level.

Welcome Luke - never has a signing been so eagerly anticipated - u have the chance to become a Charlton legend on Saturday, even if you were to never play for us again - don't waste it !!!! (please)

    Fingers crossed for this appointment.
  • PWR - open minded but on the face of it not overly impressed. Another loan... Jones actively said he doesn't like loans and I think there's a high risk of loans not liking him too when they are not bought into / committed to his long term plan / style... lack of match practice, injury prone. Shopping in the bargain bin again this feels desperate
He's only going to be here for 3.5 months and given it will be his first taste of championship football i'm sure he will be keen to impress.

You weren’t playing championship football though. Elite sport is a completely different ball game
  • I’m a bit hesitant about this signing, not sure I’m 100% convinced given the injury record. Surely one of our less favoured options when a list was drawn up. It just seems risky

A LWB. Good. I don't know much about him but he is now our only fit LWB making him our best LWB. I hope the club still recognises that we need another though, especially if he has an injury history. A permanent signings to compete with Chambers now and then Edwards next season

    Let's hope so.

I shouldn't think Liverpool would risk sending him out on loan if they thought he's likely to break down.
They evidently expect him to play Championship games.

Norwich seem to be closing in on one atm.

    Norwich, you say?

Parachute payments club. Literally 4 times more money for the wage bill than we have.

You mean come on for TC as LWB when we’re 2 down
You're probably not far off the mark there.

Has no one got a Wigan supporting mate?

I have a mate Bert Entwhistle who has supported Wigan for 40 years and has never missed a home game.
When I said what did he think of Luke Chambers ?
Bert wondered if he was the lad who played on the left wing against St Helens !

    I Tried 🤷🏻‍♂️

I like this loan. Left-sided players are hard to come by, and he proved at Killie that he has a great attitude. Good luck, lad.

Yes Norwich who we are in a relegation scrap with regardless of their mega wealth just checked he's on about 5 g a week at united when he was on loan at Wednesday and will now be at Norwich.no doubt they will be climbing the table though and not the team they are supposed to be atm.

In other news good luck to Luke hope he does well for us.

Quite surprised at how well this signing has been received based on our very recent track record with injury prone players.

Experienced for his age. He better be fit and ready to go. We’ll need another one though. Already a lack of depth there.
  • My prediction for Luke Chambers Charlton career: looks good in his initial games, team looks more balanced as a result, Chambers suffers catastrophic injury by end of Feb 👍🏼
