At 21 there is still plenty of scope for him to improve as a player. He’s looked average the last couple of games but that gives me hope that we might be able to bring him back and nurture him into a top end Championship left back, or even better.

I never felt like that with Gallagher or Cullen, they were so good instantly that you knew they would be on their way to better things.

He needs to bulk up as he is a little lightweight…think he is out of contract in the summer….might be worth a punt…

If the same Edwards comes back he is way too good to be a backup and was one of the best players in the team

Not if someone better comes in . We have to look to kick on this summer if we stay up - I see no sense in buying backup players

I have seen Mills for Oxford a couple of times
and he is direct and quick…not a great game yesterday…of course his old man Danny played for us….might be worth looking at…Currie had a good game against us last year….not great today

No way, we may need him to play at Christmas.

Disagree there. Gallagher looked class from the first minute he came on against Blackburn on the first day of the season.

Josh Edwards played 7 games this season before getting a bad injury and then having a setback with that injury that has meant he's missed almost the entire season. Aside from the fact that it will be a long road back for him to return to match fitness at Championship level, we need to move away from the idea of having backups to players who aren't anywhere near as good. You could just about get away with it at L1 level as long as it's not for too long but we need to be looking at a LWB who is at the level of or better than Edwards this summer. If we can get Chambers on loan or sign him at a good price then we should and he should be competing with Edwards not acting as his understudy. Edwards looked good at this level for 7 games but we don't know what he's going to be like when he gets back and we need to be prepared for that with another good player
One of our biggest problems this season was looking for players to be backup to what we already have.

If Edward’s is fit he is 1st choice, he’s been our biggest miss this season.

I think you might be agreeing with me? Don’t think Chambers is on that level. And that’s why we might have a chance at getting him, with still that potential to improve.

Out of contract next summer but Liverpool are going to sell him this summer to at least make some money makes no sense to keep him as he’s not prem quality. Unless Jones isn’t keen on his profile I don’t see why we shouldn’t be going for someone who is young but proven at this level and will already know the club very well

Yes, might be one of the reasons we identified him as a key target in Jan....

He's alright but I wouldn't push the boat out to sign him. Perhaps its how we are playing him, but he doesn't pose as much of a threat as I first thought he would.

If we can get him for a low fee and his wage demands aren’t outrageous then I’d sign him as more than adequate backup to Edwards with future potential for him to develop into a decent player.

Not sure I’d spend huge amounts of budget if Liverpool want silly money though.

I maintain Edwards is our best player. A big loss this season. I’d take a look at Chambers if there was a possibility though. I think he’s better going forwards than he is defensively at the moment but he’s been a decent backup.

Seems a nice enough lad and done okay but no more than that - think he's benefitted from comparison to the previous players we had at LWB. Should be looking for better in the summer IMO
  • He has come on a lot since he joined us and we saw what else he is capable of in that first half at Leicester, although it was against 10 men.

8 more games to go, I wouldn’t rule out Nathan trying to bring him back for another season before the next one starts.

He has done a job for us, and just having a left back has changed our whole team.

But whereaas Clarke is a must sign for me, I am still seeing Edwards coming back in August as the real big win. But we would still need a back up for Josh, so maybe that could be Chambers?

He started off super attacking, which seems to be his strength, but hasn't been getting forward that much on recent games. I haven't read all of the comments, so apologies if it's already been said but it seems to me that this may be tactical, with Clarke getting the more attacking wing back role? His passing is positive, defensively he's "okay". I wouldn't be too fussed either way re: keeping him but we definitely need somebody to give Edwards competition, especially as we don't know if he will come back at the same level after his injury.

Edward’s is an absolute diamond of a player and to get better or even on a par was never going to happen, Chambers has done the job required and has time for improvement.
