IF we stay up it's got to be a whole new midfield. Made Ebou Adams look like prime Kante. Go and get someone that can run the show and drive us forward and a CDM that's got the athletic ability to break play up and just generally be a shithouse.

Won't be cheap but it's got to be addressed.

Had a horrible nagging feeling this was a banana skin and it turned into the full tree of them.

    Wank all over the pitch.

please get mannion in goal from now on. I cannot deal with this useless prick anymore
  • That was shockingly bad. Midfield non existent all game. And it was cold.

Genuinely baffled how we suddenly look so awful. We looked good against Stoke, but tonight was a horror show. I thought we looking second best in the brief part of the abandoned game, but wasn't expecting us to be so toothless for an entire match. The stayaways chose right.

Just when it looked like we would stiffen up, become solid and move positively towards safety - our squad show the absolute lack of guile, lack or creativity and lack of experience and capitulate.

absolutely no consistency in this team, bipolar Charlton at its finest!
    Football was absolutely DIRE today.

we clearly had one game plan, which we seem to hammer the point over and over - even dykes was getting bored of it first half. Too many silly niggly fouls played into their games, getting silly cards from what must be the worst ref at The Valley for some time. But we dint smarten up to it.

Jones totally out though and out played once again, and what looked like a solid robust defence again was shaky and unimposing. Clarke should have scored early doors and we would have bossed them game, but that seem to rile up a Pompey team hammered by injuries to steam role our pathetic midfield and come out on top.
    too Many passengers!

If we are to stay in this league this season, next season or beyond - we need to have consistent positive players and tactics.

Special shout out to Doc, who was absolutely atrocious tonight. He and Carey clearly wanted to be each others shadow and were almost following each other around the pitch barely apart!

Not one player had a good game

Shit football….deserve to be in L1 playing like that…cant see us improving playing these tactics…. Struggle  to scrape wins and then get blown out every couple of games…..think we will be back in the shit after next 2 games….
  • Blimey when we are bad we are really really bad

No one will ever convince me that Kaminsky is any good, another howler to add to the list

West Brom is absolutely huge next week let’s hope Jones gets some form of reaction as that performance worries me more than any so far this season

Leggy, clueless, incompetent, static, absent, scared to lose, negative, lacking any creativity, slow, non-competitive, rudderless ......

I'm trying hard to list things that we were tonight without resorting to profanities. But I can't...

    FUCKING APPALLING

We started February with 3 home games. The result being W1, D1,L1. GD -1.  Sums our season up. We win by the odd goal but lose by more.

    Disgraceful

Every single player was abysmal tonight.  The attitude was appalling, summed up by Campbell just watching their player run by him for the third.  The midfield three were woeful.  Completely overrun.  There’s no pace in there, no physicality or bite.   Fodder and Pompey cut through them.  We can moan about the ref, he completely lost the game in the 1st half, but let’s not pretend it’s any sort of excuse to use his performance to mask our shortcomings.

Millwall all over again for me.  No passion, little fight and a token 5 minutes when we got a goal back.  That was a massive opportunity to put a little bit of daylight in between us and the bottom three and all we could do was hoof the ball up to Dykes and hope.

If we do stay up, there’s so many of that team that need to be moved on, there just not good enough at this level.  Docherty, Ramsay, Coventry.

Big few days for Jones now.  His Coady as holding midfielder has been exposed, especially at home.  They’ve really provoked all the anger post Millwall again for me tonight with that performance

Back over to you Mr Jones - you must get a response out of them on Saturday

Not helped by a dreadful ref, but we were miles off it tonight. No time to feel sorry for ourselves, need to react like we did after the Millwall defeat. Anything we can get at Southampton will be great but the West Brom game is obviously key.

Did Rankin-Costello get caught nicking NJ’s chewing gum? How can he not get a start in the midfield?!
  • Well only Charlton could eff it up as comprehensively as they did tonight.

Started off brilliantly with Clarke having a gilt edged chance in the first minute. After that we just got worse and worse.

Completely outplayed for most of the match, Portsmouth first to just about every ball and our only tactic seemed to be hoff it up to no-one.

The least said about the ref the better but some of our players didn't help with some silly actions. Clarke particularly brain dead in kicking the ball away and getting booked after only about 5 mins.

Also the less said about Kaminski's effort to save the first goal the better. Madness that Mannion hasn't had a chance.

Sort it out Nathan before Saturday, please.

He went ballistic at a fan in the North Lower before exiting the pitch. He looked very surprised that there were boos for him and took exception to someone. Held back by Henderson and Kaminski

At least the "let's look up the table" comments can stop now. 4th bottom is success this season. And I'm in the minority but I just don't rate Dykes, especially at home. Too slow and immobile.
100% agree on Dykes. Respect the effort but feels he could lose a 100m race to a donkey.

Him and Leaburn together must be a defenders dream.
A donkey is marginally slower than Usain Bolt across 100m. Not many footballers are as close to Bolt TBF.

  • Well that was not the best version of ourselves!!
  • The pump it up the pitch tactic is fucking wank and shows a lack of creativity. We go behind and we just collapse tactically

    Abysmal.

Worse than the Millwall performance, at least that was away to an in form team at the top of the table.

We made Portsmouth (who, on most accounts, were absolutely shit, constantly misplacing passes, miscontroling the ball and looking nervy at the back) look like prime Real Madrid.

No-one comes out of that performance with any credit.

A disgraceful refereeing performance, yes, but don't let that hide the fact that we played (a very loose term for what we actually did tonight) absolutely shockingly bad

Ebou Adams controlled the midfield tonight. His recent teams have been Forest Green and Ebbsfleet. i Dont think i have seen us this season control the midfield. Being long ball jjust doesnt work.
So frustrated with the performance - was absolutely barn door dog shit.
  • Two terrible football teams, and somehow Portsmouth scored 3.

Two lumps up front and some bodies that I think Jones was suggesting was a midfield. Absolutely sh*t scared of the ball.

Just got to grit our teeth and bear it to hope we stay up and that Jones suddenly decides, this summer, that it's quite nice to have the football for a bit sometimes.

    I won't hold my breath.
  • Sick and tired of this Nathan Jones long ball shite - ref had a shocker falling for their going to ground antics whenever we challenged but we were second to the ball, incapable of passing and deserved sweet FA from this game.

I have to believe our midfield players simply aren't good enough on the ball and that's why they're being bypassed.
  • Things I learned tonight… can’t play two target men up top, no pace in the team at all until subs were made, ref was shocking, Pompey spent all the time diving, and we got out battled and they wanted it more!

Am I right in thinking every must not lose game this season we’ve lost ? Shall we just add WBA away to that now !

Tactically outdone by a side with 14 injuries. Fucking pony.
