Nathan Jones remarkably restrained tonight - where was the screaming and ranting!
Did it to a fan in the covered end as he was about to go into the tunnel.

Was applauding fans... walking off... and something seemed to catch his eye/ear. He jolted towards the fans and pointed to himself saying "me?" repeatedly and then went ballistic and had to be ushered down the nearby tunnel
Wonder got said to Jones then... If he's reacted that way to being given the time then its unacceptable. If he's been sworn at and had some unsavory comments thrown his way, then is it understandable...? - People have the right to be frustrated, but equally a bit of respect has to be given.

It is the games against the teams below us, since before Christmas that will get us relegated, not able to beat them.

The first few pages of these threads are always angry posts with little longer term perspective.

We're at 7 points from 12 since the Millwall performance - not terrible for a relegation-fighting team. We're also 7 points from the relegation spots and have shown real fight Vs Stoke and QPR.

I thought a few things went against us today early in the game and it was enough to rock us.

    1. The ref simply wouldn't allow any contact between players which goes against our playing style.

    2. Kiminski gifting Pompey a goal

    3. A terrible decision by the ref to award a penalty

It's disappointing we couldn't recover but that's life in the Championship. Those whining and moaning about where we are in the table would be happier if we were 4th in League One. We're a new championship team - these results will happen.

For what's it worth, I thought the Portsmouth players were a credit to their badge tonight. Fought really hard and deserved the win.
Maybe I am part of the minority, but in this stage of football, unfortunately it is a pen. Would’ve been given with VAR

Quite a funny meltdown from Jones at the end though. Was so angry at someone in the lower covered end, both feet left the ground

Piss poor performance and yet another game that highlights the lack of quality in the side. We're screaming out for a midfielder who can take the ball forward and pick a pass.

Summer recruitment looks more and more criminal as the season wears on with Bell seemingly the only player of championship quality that we signed.
I have been saying that for months - it was plainly obvious that we needed to sort out the midfield, but the club did nothing

If we stay up this season, then the owners need to take a long hard look at the manager and the recruitment team.

  • Terrible display and no discernible tactics. Everything went wrong and as for the Ref he was shocking.

Pompey tried to play football and we just played hoofball. Embarrassing to watch.

Pompey fans I spoke to were shocked at how poor we were..

Thought we had the makings of a good game tonight before it all went wrong.  Goalkeeper errors and a very dodgy referee cost us, but chances v chances it was another coin toss.  Another day we win that one (nightmares of Clarke’s first minute chance will haunt me tonight). Hope our luck is better over the next 2 games.

No point complaining about lack of attacking flair imo. We are what we are, and for our budget we’re making a good fist of it with limited players.

PLUS if we had won tonight and be ten points from Leicester people would have been creaming themselves saying Jones is going to keep us up.
I will keep saying that if we stay up Jones has done a fantastic job.

I thought it was a pen, not sure how the ref saw it, as Bell would have blocked his view.

  • Hmm.  Admittedly I'm on holiday at the moment, and, to be honest, half cut.  Missed the first twenty minutes as the bar I'm in tried to figure out their dodgy stream 😆 It just seemed a bit below par across the board to be honest.  The ref did kill it really, after that first half card fest every time one of the Pompey actors ... sorry, players, fell over, it's no surprise that the play from us became a bit toothless, as losing a player would have killed us.

Losing a double to them is very unpleasant, but let's keep our eye on the prize.  Survive this year.  Build next year.

That's surprising considering how shit they've been for so long.

Lino gave it I believe. Bell's arm was not in a natural position and definitely a penalty.

We're 7 points from the relegation zone in our first season back in the Championship. You'd have taken that before the season started. Jones is therefore doing a good job.

Abject performance, we seem to throw these types of games in at the wrong time, is it too much pressure?, when Kaminski has a bad game he really does it very well, I’m not sure who was worse to be honest us or the ref?, Not sure how NJ explains this one away because it was fucking awful, he really needs to decide to actually play football, Doc must have played about 10 give or take blind punts in various directions, surely he can’t be getting told to do that?, although he wasn’t the only one tonight. I’d have been a bit pissed off with a point before the game, by god would I have taken it in hindsight.

Ref was shite but looked a clear penalty from where I was sitting. We started well, Pompey started nervously and had gaps all over the pitch. Thought Clarke scoring was a foregone conclusion but apparently not. Then they took the lead with an absolute shocker and we were never in it after that.

We already knew this but our midfield is seriously lacking quality. We couldn't get the ball out to our wing backs today and when that happens we have no creativity, especially if Campbell isn't playing. Coady has been great but the game passed him by today and Docherty was very poor. I thought Leaburn and Dykes together would lead to long balls but was pleasantly surprised at how it worked out against Leicester. Today, sadly, was more like I expected.

PWR. However bad the ref was, however harsh the penalty was, we were shite. End of. Never a fan of two big men up top, prefer a big un and a little un to run off them. Thought the triple sub made us very disjointed and made things worse. No one comes out with any credit. Not picking on him but thought Chambers tonight showed what he is, an inexperienced kid and not what we needed in a relegation fight. Funnily didn't think Bell was of much assistance to him. Less said about Kaminski the better. An upgrade on Mannion? Not for me.

Shit day at the office, can't afford one of them next Tuesday. Saints away and Wrexham at The Valley two tough games. We could be in deep doo doo by Saturday week.

Time for NJ to rally the troops and get a couple of results.

If we stay up then midfield needs sorting out in the summer. And we can't repeat some of the mistakes of last summer, the best of League One hasn't worked, spent most of the budget on players who haven't really worked out.

He went ballistic at a fan in the North Lower before exiting the pitch. He looked very surprised that there were boos for him and took exception to someone. Held back by Henderson and Kaminski
He needs to take responsibility for that abject performance. He's likely paid 20 or 30 times what those fans earns who shell out their hard earned to expect to see EFFORT.

Thats not necessarily on Jones though is it...? - You'd expect the 11-players on the pitch to be able to show the effort required without their Manager having to tell them to do that...
Ultimately it is on Jones, he's paid to take that responsibility - and being so oblivious to that by being surprised at fans' reactions says it all.

Jones is not a long term solution and his- he is a poor man’s Conte or Mourinho. He will fall out with players, clubs and fans, eventually.

I was at the game tonight and it was obvious we needed to change our pattern and tactics after about 25 minutes. We did not and that played right into their hands. Make no mistake, Pompey are a shite team that we made look good, through inept team selection, an inability to change tactics within the game and collective blindness in the dugout.

If the squad is piss poor, that is down to NJ, Chapple and Rodwell and that is where change will need to happen in the summer, whether we stay up or not.

Seriously, would anyone trust them with another £10m + in the summer?

We were 3rd rate against Pompey’s second team of plodders. A joke.

Well, I said staying up wouldn't be for the faint of heart, and here I am taking my own medicine again.

That was obviously very poor. We are always going to bypass the midfield, and tonight it really showed when we went behind just how much we needed an Ebou Adams type of player who can take the game by the scruff of the neck and dictate play. Doc, and I've been a Doc apologist of late, can't do that. Conor Coady isn't that. Sonny Carey works hard but it a 10 not an 8.

As a result, we have to be good in the press and on the counter as both are so vital to how we play. I'm not sure that Leaburn and Dykes up front allow us to do that, even if they started brightly. We just need a bit more pace and mobility than they offer.

We've got to be better, and smarter, over the next week and a half. We need to get back to pressuring the ball and winning the seconds. It's ugly, but it's how NJ plays football and how we're set up to play. We can't let Soton run through us like they did last time. Tonight was a real missed opportunity, but there are still results to be gotten and our last three games shows that.

This has really put a dampener on my 40th birthday tomorrow :(

It tells how bad we were as a team when Bell has a game like that too.
  • We just have no idea what to do when we go a goal down, always been the case under Jones unfortunately.

    Was Kelman passed the ball?
  • Looked like school kids at times tonight with the aimless kicks into the sky in the vague direction of a sea of bodies. Felt like we wanted a physical game but the ref was absolutely not on board with that and we suffered badly. Pompey were organised and at times did a job on us. Kaminski had a shocker with the first goal and completely rocked our entire defence’s confidence. Bell looked particularly off his usual confident self.

Dykes and Leaburn 100% don’t work together. Look like they’d never even met let alone trained together.

That is because NJ has decided the ONLY way to play is Route 1 - win, lose or draw.

Said it at the the start of the season.  No creativity in the team. Was told that wingbacks are there to put crosses into the box. Well they didn't today & the front 2 spent the whole game trying to get their heads onto 50 yard punts from our defenders. Woeful. If that is football then you can stick it. I'd rather stick pins in my eyes.

Chasing a game and we still dont trouble their goalkeeper. He made a save after 30 secs & that was about it apart from a great finish from Fevrier. TC 6 yards out going into stoppage time & he skied it over the bar. Not good enough.

Did Kelman touch the ball ?

We still need 12+points. Need to win 3 & draw 3. Can't see too many wins if we dont trouble the goalkeeper.

Wins against 9 & 10 men showed it for what it was.

2 away games & then 2 at home. The homes games against Wrexham & Brum. Cant see us getting many points from those 4 matches.

    Argghhh.
