Exactly. - an no way can we go in on to another season with Kaminski and Mannion as our goalkeepers. Especially with Brooks as the back up.North Lower Neil said:
Maybe.Crispywood said:
Alternatively you can look at it if that happens is that we massively improved our keeper for this season and a financially incredible move for us.North Lower Neil said:Frustrating if Okonkwo is a loan - he does well and we risk losing him in the summer, and any resale value for a young keeper. If he does turn out average then we’ve saved ourselves being stuck with another keeper that is average. This is a good deal for us
Just feels a bit 'Thierry Small', get a guy in a short term contract (rather than say 3 years), see him do well (hopefully) and then see him get a better offer elsewhere for next season.
At least if he does well enough to get that interest, he'll have done well for us, mind.0 -
If it's not been mentioned, should we put in a bid for Orinoko in January...😉0
-
Maybe Wrexham wanted it to be a loan so he can’t play against them.0
-
If we are a million say short for JRS why can't we take it from next year's budget as we did with Sichenje last season I believe0
-
Not sure what to think about AO & so a loan deal is excellent in my mind. He probably wouldn't be No1 on our list if we were looking for a keeper at the start of June. It gives us a chance to look at him (and vice versa) and see where we are next summer. If he is anywhere decent we can sign him permanently then. If not he can leave.1

Now if I’d said that, I’d be banged up immediately by the thread police. Where the hell are they when you need them?1 -
Was that a bread roll?Weegie Addick said:So I was on a roll yesterday with this one.0 -
Or if he's outstanding for us he gets a move elsewhere and we are back to square one. I'd have rather got a permanent in now although AO does have something to prove, either to us or other watching clubs so it's up to him to perform or next season he could get a move back to league one.golfaddick said:Not sure what to think about AO & so a loan deal is excellent in my mind. I’d say that’s harsh. They spent big money on a fairly average keeper because that’s what they do - no because AO is weak.FishCostaFortune said:
The moment Wrexham got to this level they brought in another keeper to be number 1. That keeper ended up being injured so AO actually managed to play most of the season at this level.AberystwythAddick said:

But he was behind Ward until Ward got injured. And now Pattinson he is now behind Ward and Pattinson.AberystwythAddick said:
He played 39 games last season hardly a third choice keeperFishCostaFortune said:Lads, I understand AO might have a lot of upside and Wrexham have a different transfer/player development policy to us.
But with him being 3rd choice for them, surely it's more of a risk to get him on a long contract and he does not develop with us and we end up with a team of 2nd/3rd choice keepers on our book.
So yes he is Wrexham’s third choice keeper.I’m not saying he is rubbish, just that I don’t think a loan deal is that bad because he’s clearly far from proven.

I don’t know how he can be much more proven
Wrexham, who then had a whole season of seeing him at this level, still saw this position as a weakness and spent big cash on another keeper making him 3rd choice keeper.
So whatever we think - he didn't prove himself to those in charge at Wrexham.
So I go back to my original point. I think having him on loan is much less of a risk than having him signed up on a long term contract when he is not proven at this level.
i believe he’ll be a step up on Mannion and Kamikazi and that’s all we can ask for. He won’t be perfect but perfection costs mega money but he’s only 24 so which, for a goalie, is young so he should improve.10 -
He's from Camden, so may want to stay in London. Or, next summer, we may not be able to afford him. It's certainly a risk. But for where we are as a club, I think it's a lesser risk to have him for this year, see how he does, and then if he does well offer him a contract next summer than to have him sign a three year deal on high wages only to have him be questionable and then be an albatross around our necks. It's basically what happened with TK.LargeAddick said:

As mentioned above, he's not entirely proven at Championship level.
The one difference to "being back where we started next season" is that we'll be there in May/June, and not in mid-August. Our need for a new GK is (arguably, depending on how one rates TK) a new emergence. The fact of the matter is there aren't a lot of GKs available at this stage of the window, and those that are tend to be reserve keepers on loan--which is exactly what we're getting. So next summer, we will need a new keeper, but we'll have the entire summer to do it, and if AO performs well, we'll probably have an offer into him at the start of the summer to try and convince him to stay.
Both ways of doing things present a risk, I think this is the lesser risk.6 -
Get that it's not that deep but find comments about our club captain who literally played through a groin injury to get us over the line to safety unnecessary tbhBrownie12 said:
We should do similar with Docherty but insist he does play against us.Redrobo said:Maybe Wrexham wanted it to be a loan so he can’t play against them.26 -
Looks like we're making the best of an unpredicted situation. I think he'll be decent.14

Are we getting an evening announcement for this then?0

Here we go then…0

Kaminski hasn’t left as far as we know.
I wonder if that’s a factor in him being on loan?0 -
Picture of a goalkeeper clinching his glove on Instagram just posted. AO about to be made official.0

Wondered that too. If Kaminski is only leaving on loan he'll be back next summer with another year left on his contract so we might be stuck with him yet.Redrobo said:Kaminski hasn’t left as far as we know.

Quality signing, Wrexham sign players like new shoes casting off decent ones as they go. Arthur is the perfect fit! Welcome Sir.14

Shouldnt lose sight of the profile of signing here. For my lad who is 18, its probably the one of theb biggest 'names' / most recognisable players his generation have ever seen us sign. Even if it is because of a Netflix show.
A low bar maybe, but does feel like we are turning a page. JRS next and the place will be bouncing next home game.13 -
Very happy with this4
