I am increasingly concerned at the lack of transfer activity.

Even Jones hoped to have a couple more in by now.

Imo we are favourites to go down and we really need a good window. Fearing second season syndrome.
Don't worry because if people get their way we will be signing a host of old lags. Over the last few days they have been salivating over signing Dobson, JRS and now Grant.

    🤷‍♂️

    “Lack of transfer Activity”
13 teams have made more signings than us.
exclude 3rd choice keepers that becomes 9.
exclude prev obligations that becomes 7.
14th for total money spent based on estimated prices.

So for a club with a bottom end championship budget and an already over inflated squad, I don’t see where we’re showing a lack of activity?

Still a month away from the first game of the season too. Way too early for silly season to be starting
That’s not long …. Considering you ideally want them training with their team mates and getting fully match fit.
It’s plenty of time. This is a relatively long pre-season compared to most previous seasons

Unless we sign a free agent, anyone we sign will have been doing pre-season training elsewhere

We could not even sign anyone next week, and then a player joining us the week after would still have 3 weeks training, 3 friendlies and 1 competitive game before the first league game of the season. It’s still early days

As has been said, other teams have done a very similar amount of business to us. The World Cup was always going to delay things this summer, and the league cup game being the first Saturday of the season gives us an extra week too before the first league game. It’s not panic time yet
So, when is it panic time ?

It’s concerning that we have so many first team squad players missing full pre-season due to injury: Doc, Godden, Edwards, Sichenje. Plus Mbick from the youth.

Our squad is big but we have a few passengers and also now some Academy players who will count in squad number as they are over age.

I’m sure a lot of work is going on behind the scenes regarding both outgoings and incomings.
They’re not missing pre-season a lot of them have been training we just haven’t risked them for games, it’s all about fitness at this stage. From clips of the pre-season tour Mbick is the only one who hasn’t kicked a ball and at least he’s been on the bike.

We have got work to do in terms of outgoings and incomings but with a month to go we’re really not in a bad spot. We’ve got time just need to wait and see what develops without hitting the panic button just yet

We still managed to feature 11 different players in each half of both games, with several unused subs as well.

Lots of work to do - both outgoings and incomings - but really early in the summer.

First game isn't for 3.5 weeks.
First league game isn't for 4.5 weeks.
The window closes in SEVEN weeks.

Absurd that a single club can comfortably put on a game like this. Talent hoarding needs to stop.
We should organise this for next pre-season.

What's happened to that famous road in Wandsworth that used to post up the odd interesting rumour...😉🤔
It was pretty quiet last week with the trip away.

Hoping for some more updates this week. Especially on the player who had a medical the Thursday before the team went away.

I’ve been quoted on the other site saying I said it was Tutu who had a medical. I wish people actually would read what people say
Par for the course over there.
  • Just throwing it out there is Edwards going to be the player we assume he is at this level ?

He played 7 games at the start of last season and difficult to judge from the first few games because the opposition at that stage of the season is not fully fit and doesn’t have all the signings playing they want in their squad.  He was to blame for the goal we conceded against Leicester.

i just wonder and this is a very serious injury…which can effect speed and movement obviously Ivan maybe a better player so we have that covered I guess - but what if he gets injured aswell ?!?

It wouldn’t be fair on TC forcing him to play wing back again - which he can’t.

    Bollox ...

... bolder, I agree with you. So do the bookies, and they are rarely far wrong.
    They were wrong last season.

Bookies odds are based on money placed.

Bookmakers calculate odds by analyzing statistical data to determine the "true" probability of an event, and then they artificially reduce those odds by building in an profit margin (the "vig" or "juice"). This ensures they make a profit regardless of the outcome.
Odds will be shortened the more money is placed.

Re: the Man City shop window game, it’s so pathetically summing up the plastic nature of modern football.  Sounds like a new mall or apple shop opening and they’re inviting the unwashed to come and spend on material crap that only they’ll benefit from

of course, there will be some genuinely good players in there, ones that will go onto play at a decent standard in the Championship and Prem, but I’m massively underwhelmed being on the receiving end of their ‘academy’ when we signed that Fiorini and Serb (I think) striker on loan a couple of seasons ago.  Admittedly we’re a division above now, but I think their whole operation is a con that only they really benefit from.  Getting clubs to pay over inflated prices in wages and fees, simply because they’re from the City academy.

I would rather we swerve playing a part in their circus.  I don’t think it’s good for a club like us

Jones has consistently said that he likes to get his business done early so he can *work with the new players during pre season*
He also said after the Hull game we desperately needed better quality. It seems he and Chappell are finding it hard to get that better quality with the funds they have been given. The prices for decent Championship players has gone through the roof. Just look at the Ethan Galbraith move to Stoke. He is a good player and one I would have liked to see play for us. But as Jones says we can’t afford these players. So we have to scour Europe and other places.
  • I fear if the season does not go well we are going to be hearing “ we did not have a good pre season”

I’m genuinely surprised they’re not advertising Kalvin Phillips playing in this, mad that he is still there wandering about, looking lost and picking up hundreds of thousands of pounds for keeping fit…

Liverpool are the actual kings of overinflated fees for their squad players - seemingly mostly to Bournemouth.

I’m really not sure how the excuse that the World Cup is delaying things for our transfer business works. I fully get it that Premier League and a handful of top end Championship clubs might be embroiled in signing players that were or are at the World Cup but for everyone else I think it’s a red herring. Any of the clubs involved in looking to sign World Cup players and who might be reluctant to release players until their targets are secured won’t be clubs that we’re looking to sign players from. Even one “layer” of business down from that is unlikely to be our fishing pond. Any players we sign from The Championship are going to be already surplus to their respective clubs plans. We can’t afford to sign players for big fees who are part of I’d suggest 99% of Championship clubs first team plans. Our loans are going to have to be very well thought out because that’s where I see us getting Championship quality. Good quality out of contract players are going to be sought by most of The Championship clubs. In most cases I’d guess if they have two offers, we’ll be unlikely to compete. I’m thinking that we’ve already missed out or are unlikely to succeed on any of our top domestic targets and are now moving down a list. There’s time to be proved wrong and I hope I am but things are not moving as I or perhaps even the club would have liked.

The bigger money deals in last years window all happened towards the end of July, Kelman, Apter and Knibbs, a lot of the freebies/chepaer ones were prior to the middle of July. Wish people would calm down a bit, enjoy the weather and worry about the World Cup instead

I wish people would stop telling other people to calm down. Not any bed wetting going on as far as I can see. Just natural concern that our very necessary player upgrades which the manager has commented on are not happening as quickly as we’d all like.

Calm down dear, I'd rather they got the right player, than a player in a rush, if that takes time, what is it with people needing instant gratification?

I’m looking in transfermarkt to see what other teams have done in this window.

Two clubs have signed 0 players

5 clubs have signed 1 player

3 clubs have signed 2 players

7 clubs have signed 3 players

7 clubs have signed 4 or more players. These include clubs that have just gone up, or just come down.

I genuinely believe there is nothing to worry about. Business is slow at the moment because of the World Cup. Once it’s done and dusted, things will speed up.

Stoke have been big spenders. Bolton have made a few signings but have had to coming up… Wolves too.

    No need to panic

I agree, but we know several areas need strengthening if we are going to improve on last year’s finishing position. Hopefully the two signings to date have addressed the left side of defence. In my opinion we need at least 4 new starters, not squad fillers. If we don’t have the budget it is going to be a long season. Objective number 1 last season was to avoid relegation and we showed a lot of fight and character in achieving that. But boy sometimes it was boring to watch.

I agree. It is very tiresome. I am perfectly calm but am concerned at the lack of transfer activity. Is that alright with everyone? I realise there is a month to go till the beginning of the season. But there is a lot to do shifting players out and bringing upgrades in. Let’s see where we are in a months time.

We should know by now NJ keeps a VERY tight ship on transfer rumours. Any transfer rumour seems to always come from the selling club side, if at all. Sichenje and mesik basically came out of nowhere. Kind of expecting the same.

It is probably a good thing but it is boring as a supporter, all eyes on the WC till Sunday I guess!

Think the days of transfers leaking days before they happen as happened under previous regimes are long gone. People will still hear bits and pieces as always but I don't expect it to be anywhere near as frequent.

Not too concerned about where things are ATM , perhaps expected a couple more outs than we've had so far but that's it.

I’m not concerned that we’ve only brought in a couple of players so far. Once the World Cup wraps up this weekend, the transfer window will finally start to wake up.

Two signings already through the door, more talks likely bubbling away, and the club working quietly behind the scenes. Expect movement as the market kicks into gear — late July into August is when Championship deals really start to roll, IMO.

    Big few weeks ahead.
