Summer Window 2026 - Rumours and Discussion

I have said before that we probably need uncluttering. Ahadme going on loan is a step in that direction.
If we don’t sign players from elsewhere then it is wise to focus on the resources we have.
Nathan Jones will have to play the hand he’s got, not the hand he wishes he was dealt.
We read stories of ‘unhappy’ managers not getting what they want from owners, and then it all going sour.
Nathan is a very singular twitchy type, but so far he has not gone large on being denied stuff, if anything he has been realistic in acknowledging what has been provided.
I think he does not like being criticised in a way he feels is unfair, like not making silk purses out of sows ears when our budget is one of the lowest. Yes everybody wants Nathan and Charlton to punch above our weight but that won’t happen by crying for the moon.
If they don’t arrive, then our present squad, especially our younger players, is what needs our support.2 -
'To blame for the goal we conceded against Leicester' is an absolutely hilarious claim to lay at his door. He faced up to Fatawu, didn't dive in because Fatawu is incredibly dangerous if he skips past you and got done by a Premier League level player taking an excellent touch to cut inside and then banging a top corner strike in from the edge of the box. It was an absolutely world class goal, not everything has to be someone's fault, some goals are just really good. There's always going to be an argument that a defender can get closer but the reality is Edwards was left one on one with a superb 1v1 attacker and put him in a position where he needed to hit an absolute stunner to score, which unfortunately he did. If you're going to start worrying that players aren't good enough because they can't stop incredible goals being scored then you're going to have to rule out every single player that has ever existed ever I'm afraid.TheAddicks4Ever said:Just throwing it out there is Edwards going to be the player we assume he is at this level ?He played 7 games at the start of last season and difficult to judge from the first few games because the opposition at that stage of the season is not fully fit and doesn’t have all the signings playing they want in their squad. He was to blame for the goal we conceded against Leicester.
i just wonder and this is a very serious injury…which can effect speed and movement obviously Ivan maybe a better player so we have that covered I guess - but what if he gets injured aswell ?!?It wouldn’t be fair on TC forcing him to play wing back again - which he can’t.36 -
Fatawu scored the best goal we saw at the valley last season, bar possibly kelman’s against hull. To lay the blame at Edwards is laughable.46

So far there have been few 'big' transfer deals by Championship clubs, the Galbraith move being one exception so far as I can see.
Quite a few what I would consider 'squad strengthening' moves, but i mo few moves which have a 'straight into the first team' look about them .. so far2 -
The lack of rumours don’t bother at all. I’ve no interest in knowing who we are talking to.But the lack of activity in or out is odd. 5 weeks is not a long time in football especially when we’ve already been on our preseason trip. The lack of new signings for that is odd considering they’re normally big team bonding events. We need players in asap so they can integrate into the team dynamics and get up to speed with how they will be required to play.Going into the season still trying to sign players whilst sometimes unavoidable is not good practice.1

Couple of outgoings to be confirmed in the next few days, no one of any concern38
-
He also said it will take time this season.DennisBooth said:Jones has consistently said that he likes to get his business done early so he can *work with the new players during pre season*
He also said after the Hull game we desperately needed better quality. It seems he and Chappell are finding it hard to get that better quality with the funds they have been given. The prices for decent Championship players has gone through the roof. Just look at the Ethan Galbraith move to Stoke. He is a good player and one I would have liked to see play for us. But as Jones says we can’t afford these players. So we have to scour Europe and other places.3 -
Any more on Jordan Holsgrove?
As one of the most impressive playmakers in his league last season, and at a good age, he’s exactly what we need.9 -
I think it’s been stated he’s probably out of our price range.Valley11 said:Any more on Jordan Holsgrove?

The other way to look at the lack of transfer activity is to look at the other transfers in the Championship in a bit more detail in terms of do we think we have missed out on anyone?
Galbraith for example is not a player we’ve missed out on due to his transfer fee but teams you would expect to be around us like Bolton, Portsmouth etc do we think we’ve missed out on any of there signings made so far?
Im sure someone with more data and time would be able to work it out but so far doesn’t seem to be any murmurings that we’ve been missing out on targets to rival teams yet?Far rather this scenario than one where we don’t have enough players in yet just because deals aren’t happening fast enough.2 -

Not seen many wow signings yet really from anyone that would be in our budget. Pompey signing an Estonian CM from Norway doesn't especially bother me when their 2 overseas midfielders from last season didn't really feature for them , would have quite liked Svate Inglesson who's gone to Stoke from Sheffield Wednesday but Stoke seem to be throwing money around left right and centre.MartinCAFC said:The other way to look at the lack of transfer activity is to look at the other transfers in the Championship in a bit more detail in terms of do we think we have missed out on anyone?

I think it's perfectly understandable to be itchy about the lack of signings. It just also isn't necessarily an indicator of any problems. I want more signings and I want to get excited about those signings. The reality is we're probably going to have to wait to get decent players in and when we do we'll probably not have a lot of rumours leading up to them. It's a long summer10

Galbraith joined Stoke for £5M rather than £10M according to my Stoke supporting mate. Not really relevant to us but seen him in a few posts on here, so thought I would mention it.5

The way the transfer window actually works means the World Cup definitely impacts us. It’s very much a bit of a chain reaction where once the business starts being done at the top that then filters down to the bottom. The World Cup delays the first bit as prem clubs hold onto players for longer in the summerShootersHillGuru said:I’m really not sure how the excuse that the World Cup is delaying things for our transfer business works. I fully get it that Premier League and a handful of top end Championship clubs might be embroiled in signing players that were or are at the World Cup but for everyone else I think it’s a red herring. Any of the clubs involved in looking to sign World Cup players and who might be reluctant to release players until their targets are secured won’t be clubs that we’re looking to sign players from. Even one “layer” of business down from that is unlikely to be our fishing pond. Any players we sign from The Championship are going to be already surplus to their respective clubs plans. We can’t afford to sign players for big fees who are part of I’d suggest 99% of Championship clubs first team plans. Our loans are going to have to be very well thought out because that’s where I see us getting Championship quality. Good quality out of contract players are going to be sought by most of The Championship clubs. In most cases I’d guess if they have two offers, we’ll be unlikely to compete. I’m thinking that we’ve already missed out or are unlikely to succeed on any of our top domestic targets and are now moving down a list. There’s time to be proved wrong and I hope I am but things are not moving as I or perhaps even the club would have liked.
Let’s say we want to sign a midfielder from a championship club. They will want to sort their own new midfielder out, but might be waiting on a premier league team to let a player go. With so many players at the World Cup or on holiday afterwards, prem clubs keep hold of their squad players and young players for longer so that they have a pre-season squad. If those moves get delayed that filters down to us not being able to sign the players we want6 -

-
Most of our players from last year will have a years experience in the Championship know more about the opposition, stadiums, the players move, mistakes, patterns of play etc. This experience will help this season so lets not start writing off all the talent from last year, especially the young lads making the step up.10

Last season we didn't know what division we were in until 28th May, and were (and still are) constantly told that was one of the reasons why we were behind with our recruitment. This season we knew what division we were in on 25th April - a full month earlier.Rothko said:The bigger money deals in last years window all happened towards the end of July, Kelman, Apter and Knibbs, a lot of the freebies/chepaer ones were prior to the middle of July. Wish people would calm down a bit, enjoy the weather and worry about the World Cup instead
No excuses this time.12 -
I'm not panicking. Just taking note that words are not matching deeds.....again.RugbyAddick said:I’m looking in transfermarkt to see what other teams have done in this window. Two clubs have signed 0 players
5 clubs have signed 1 player
3 clubs have signed 2 players
7 clubs have signed 3 players
7 clubs have signed 4 or more players. These include clubs that have just gone up, or just come down.
I genuinely believe there is nothing to worry about. Business is slow at the moment because of the World Cup. Once it’s done and dusted, things will speed up.
Stoke have been big spenders. Bolton have made a few signings but have had to coming up… Wolves too.
No need to panic
And PS. I don't care what other teams are doing. Some may be happy with their squads and only need to bring in 1 or 2 players.

Oh well, it's that simple, isn't it, and the indication were we would have still signed quite a few of the players we signed regardless of the league we were in. We don't need to buy in haste as did last summer, we can take time and sign the right players. Anyway, you've got something to moan about in your sad little cave, you must be delighted.golfaddick said:

Like with Premier League clubs a few of our "outgoings" may not leave until close to the end of the transfer window. I hope we aren't waiting for those to depart before we bring others in.DennisBooth said:
I agree. It is very tiresome. I am perfectly calm but am concerned at the lack of transfer activity. Is that alright with everyone? I realise there is a month to go till the beginning of the season. But there is a lot to do shifting players out and bringing upgrades in. Let’s see where we are in a months time.ShootersHillGuru said:I wish people would stop telling other people to calm down. Not any bed wetting going on as far as I can see. Just natural concern that our very necessary player upgrades which the manager has commented on are not happening as quickly as we’d all like.2 -

'“One, we like to do our business early. But I think this year the important thing is not doing it early but getting the absolute right ones.“Fortunately enough last year we pretty much got 90 per cent of our first targets. This year will be more difficult. Every window will become more difficult because we won’t need the volume, but what we will need is more quality.'
Can you let me know from these words what part are his words not matching deeds?*

Exactly - Jones did say he'd LIKE to get things done early but at no point has he ever promised or even suggested that this means things actually WILL be done early - more likely the opposite.FishCostaFortune said:

I'm sure in that no-one involved with the transfers is sitting around thinking everything is fine and dandy and no need to rush, lots of people will be hard at work but a lot of it is not something we can control.10 -
According to the Bristol City fans, Elijah Adebayo is training with them. I think I also saw one of them say that Dykes is no longer training with them so not sure what that means for him.0

Thats me told then. As you say, I'll go hide in my cave & wait until mid August to see "the right" players performing out on the pitch.Rothko said:
