Absolutely no chance. He will be there or there in the Liverpool match day squad. Coventry was very poor for most of last season.
He just passes backwards all the time.
Coady replacing him was one of the main reasons that we ended up staying up.9 -

He isn't always that popular here but TC went from being on the verge of leaving the club on a free for a team who had finished 16th in L1 to being the key attacking threat in a Playoff winning team and then an important part of a team that stayed up its first season in the Championship. Lloyd Jones was having such a confidence crisis and giving away goals so regularly he had to be dropped by Curtis Fleming. I remember him looking completely lost against Northampton and getting hauled off at half time a broken man after helping gift two goals. Then the next game against Blackpool he had to come on at half time after a knock to Gillesphey and almost immediately gave a goal away. You watch (don't, I just did and it genuinely made me feel really depressed) some of our highlights from 23/24 and compare that Lloyd Jones around December and January to this one. Coventry went from a non-entity in his first half season with us to Player's POTY in L1, Thierry Small was an unwanted outcast who couldn't get a game at St Mirren and now is a good Championship player, Kayne Ramsay was signed from L2 and now apparently is wanted in Serie A. I'd say he got more out of Gillesphey and Mannion than anyone expected as well. I don't think the improvements he gets out of players are spectacular but he's definitely got a hell of a lot more out of a fair few of our playersMuttleyCAFC said:It is becoming increasingly noticeable how players fail to kick on with us. He may well. I would argue he does his best work with a shoe-string in that his fees tend to do worse than his frees.SouthLincsAddick said:

There are no passing patterns, rotations or plans on how to progress the ball through the thirds. Its lump it long and hope, or get it to TC and hope.
Now Jones may say that he has to play like that because of the players he has, but he also signed those players so its not a great excuse.
This evolution requires both an improvement in midfield and an improvement in how we approach being in possession.
Coventry I think can step up and progress to a passing game, Doc cannot.
If it is only 2 more players to be signed, then they both have to be in midfield. If the plan is for just 1 midfield addition, then you have to seriously question the people making the decisions.

Why is that not the same for Coventry?I still think he has room to get better which is why I’d be fine with him in our squad next season, and we will then see if he gets better. If he does then maybe a new contract, if he doesn’t then release him next summer.0 -
For me the centre of midfield needs 2026’s Josh Cullen and Kristian Bielik - neither known for outward creativity, but both good enough on the ball to start a move when winning back possession. When we talk of upgrades on Doc and Coventry, that’s what I view as the type of upgrade.The Cullen equivalent will protect the back 4 or 3, break up the play and then the Bielik equivalent will have an element of that to their game, but also have that ability to get us on the counter etc4

Yeah the creativity is meant to come from the direct wingers. It's why everyone we've signed for those areas is some form of running 1v1 threat. They "just" all need to get better at crossing and shootingBraziliance said:
