It’s a shame we don’t have the money to take a punt on Abdul Abdulmalik from Boreham Wood. They’ve rejected a £750,000 bid from a Swedish club for him.His stats are very impressing although that’s a national league level so it would take time to get him use to the league.The caveat being that the past few big name players from the NL have not really achieved anything Jellis failed at Walsall, Clarke failed at Peterborough and langstaff whilst bought in league 2 generally failed when he got his move.2

Stoke's owners effectively sold the club to themselves in 24/25, wiped the existing debt while doing it and ended the year with a pre-tax profit of £68 million by doing so. They haven't sold a player of note in years and their turnover is relative to ours. That's the new rules in a nutshell so you still have to spend within your means. Get the feeling the likes of Stoke are probably getting that £15m owner injection this season in a push for the playoffs.
It won't become clearer until later in the year, but according to Jones we had the second lowest budget in the Championship last season. So far, it looks like much the same this year. We haven't spent as much on transfer fees, but we had much more ground to make up in terms of the squad last year.0 -
I genuinely don’t understand how a NL club can receive 750k which they rejected for a 23 year old winger. Our last published accounts were in League One, so our turnover has more than likely doubled, just due to the TV money. If so, then our most recently reported wage bill was already close to £16M (and that doesn’t include transfer fee amortisation).This covers the period ending June 2025 (I.e. up to our promotion back to the championship). Hopefully in the meantime our revenues have gone up, but I would expect player & manager costs will have as well.It shows how tight it is to comply with the rules and spend the type of money required in the Championship.
In the new rules you don't spread the transfer fee over the length of contract, instead the league look at how much cash flows on each transfer in a year. So if you have agreed a £1 million over 2 years, this will count as £500k per year with the new rules. The result of this is selling clubs will want the fees upfront to help keep within the new limits and buying clubs will want to spread it out.0 -

For Boreham Wood they hold the cards in the negotiations. The message will be we don’t need to sell, it’s likely with the player we will get promoted which is worth more than what you’re offering.Crispywood said:

Would hope we'd get £2-3m for TC , however that does mean we'd then be needing 2 wingers if NJ previously wanted 5 wide options inc TC1

I also don’t want to see it happen but it’s what well run clubs do when valuable players won’t sign a new contract. For our squad, he’s one of our most sellable assets and if he goes he won’t go for free and we’ll be able to get a sell on for any future moves if he succeeds.
I would be surprised to see it happen though. We don’t have anyone else fit enough to play 60 minutes at right wing, unless we bring someone in3 -
