Happy with the point, even if we had chances to score a second. Watford have real pace down the flanks, something we badly lack.

Mannion easily MOTM. I was confused by our shape at HT, and it continued. On the left, Chambers kept wandering inside, while on the right Clarke kept being dragged away from the right. Dykes was playing as RB at times in the first half,  while a couple of times near the end of the game we had NOBODY defending the right flank.

Great atmosphere in the away end,  helped by the Millwall result beforehand. By contrast,  Watford are such a nice/bland club. Amazingly, despite us being managed by a Luton legend(ish), in neither game this season have they ever chanted about him, unlike many other oppositions this season.

So, what is the "R Factor"?
    No idea, 8 or 9.

    What we can now see is that;
Oxford gained a point on us but lost one compared to our result today. Portsmouth lost 2 today and also drew at Watford. Blackburn lost 2 today but gained 2 on us at watford. West Brom lost 2 and another at Watford, so that's a net gain of 5 in our favour!

    Good result.

    😉
  • Fantastic result. Battled well.
    Mannion superb throughout.
TC did well first half - shame he went back to LWB when subs came on.
If you look at their goal which was superb, great early run and pass - JRC had two similar chances but drove wide and got confused rather than driving on towards goal and hitting it early.
    Godden's goal was just class!
Nearly there now. Just hope we continue to attack teams more in the run in.

When anyone gets a chance have a look at Tierry Small's own goal today. Absolute classic!
  • A pretty good day all round in hindsight, with none of the teams below us winning.

Very happy with a point against a good Watford team. They have some class players and to see them only 10th in the league and well off the play-offs makes you realise the quality of the Championship. We will need a huge upgrade if we are not to struggle again next year.

Mannion man of the match for us by a mile. Some outstanding saves from shots really being driven in by the Watford players.

And great to see Godden come on and score. Will be interesting to see if his contract gets extended.

And if only J R-C could finish like Godden! He had two clear cut chances, the first one he really should have got a shot on target at least.

A few tired players out there for us today, with Bell in particular looking like he needs a good, long rest. But credit to all of them for sticking at it.

And hope Coady makes a full recovery. Watford general hospital is next to the ground so if he did need more medical assistance it was very close to hand.

    Good result.
And back in reality land there was no gains or losses anywhere as all the bottom 7 drew.

In fact there were only 4 wins, with 5 draws.
The gain is in another game passing without a team clawing us back. Every game that passes means there's fewer points on offer. Before today there was an 8 point gap with 18 points to be won, now there's an 8 point gap with 15 points to be won. Time is running out
I understand that & have mentioned it elsewhere.

My post was a reply to the stupid post about comparing matches against the same opposition & who then went in to say we "gained" 5 points.

In reality everyone stayed the same points difference wise with the bottom 7 all picking up a point each.

Time is running out for Oxford, Pompey & Leicester. They need 3 wins each to overtake us. With just 5 games to go that's a big ask. They have only 3 wins between them over the last 6 games.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet but interesting tactical tweak from Jones today. Defensively we were 5-4-1 but with the ball we were 3-4-2-1 with Chambers moving into midfield next to Coady and TC staying out wide on the left. Worked quite well, especially in the first half

That wasn’t a bore fest at all. Very entertaining game and our fans were loud!
Mannion played really well and Godden stepped up with a very nice goal. We deserved that!

Weirdly, this was the sort of game Charlton needed after being outplayed and beaten on Friday. Watford play open, attacking football, which is the sort of team we like to squeeze and then snatch the points from. We nearly did it again today and fair play to them for a quality equaliser which finally got past the magnificent Mannion. The back three were excellent again and Ramsey continues to improve his form which is great to see. Our midfield laboured away as usual and you have to be envious at the quality of passing and interplay of the (expansive) midfield of the home side. It was wonderful to see Gooden score a quality goal and also look sharp throughout his time on the pitch. Coventry will no doubt come back following Coady's KO and Knibbs must be worth a look with Carey struggling to get involved at all. Hopes are that we can get some points from the next three matches, although frankly the away match looks the best bet.

Good point gained - would've taken that before the match.

Could've gone 2-0 up with the JRC chance, but in the end we did well to get the point given all of the shots they had.

I think Watford will have a totally different view on the game, like how did they not win. The answer is obvious our keeper, Mannion had an absolute blinder of a game. Realistically if your keeper has a game like that it probably means you’re lacking in quality elsewhere as we have seen a number of times this season. A really good effort from us and a nice finish from Godden. If that was scored against us I think we would be criticising our defence.
I think we are all but safe for this season Oxford and Leicester will be trying to catch pompey and pompey West Brom I doubt they think we are there for the taking.
Next season isn’t going to be any easier for us with our constraints on spending but hopefully we will progress.

I would like to see Fullar play in the position he does for the U21’s, attacking midfield.
I think Carey has not been at his best for a couple of games.

Yep, so loud we'd have thought you were the home fans if it weren't for the songs you were singing

Agreed on the atmosphere generally, but credit to Watford's fans where it'sdue, that wasn't just a procedural clap they gave Coady, it was a proper warm ovation, so a decent sort right there.

What a goal from the God man!!
As I’d said on the match thread…

    The God’den has risen…🙌🐣
  • Good game. Brilliant Mannion. Our no1 keeper by far.
Kept us in the game until the final whistle.
    We had some excellent chances.
Rankin-Costello had a great chance to put us 2-1 up.
But a fair result in the end.

Once again our travelling fans were fantastic. They were making all the noise. I watched it on sky and was really proud of them.

I would have given our Will the M.O.M by a whisker. I thought he was outstanding.

Louza is undoubtedly a great player. His awareness of the players around him is highly commendable. But I feel our Will pipped him to the post.

Good to see Matty Godden get back on the score sheet.

Charlton players put their bodies on the line again and again which was good to see.

Unfortunately Connor Cody got in line of a thunderous shot from Tom Ince which hit him full on the face.

I wish him a full and speedy recovery. He is a tough guy with a fighting spirit.

I will be very comfortable of us staying up if we get another win and a draw from the remaining games and end up with 53 points.

The other teams fighting for survival have certainly been doing us a favour with the results they have been getting as previously documented in earlier posts.

    CAFC for ever for me.

8 clear with 5 to go.  Excellent work so far.  Said all along I would be delighted with 4th bottom.  One more win to make certain,.may not even need that given Leicester couldn't beat Wednesday and Oxford and Pompey couldn't beat each other.

I'd like to see Fullah in the 18.

Dropping him for Berry today was unfathomable to everyone except NJ.

Yikes 31 shots. Great point though, and great to see Godden scoring.

Did you look at the appalling stats for passing accuracy and for successful tackles, we must be one of the worst sides for those stats in the division.
We cannot keep playing like this and expect to pick up points let alone a win.
