    PWR - quite refreshing to hear all the Saints fans who rang Talksport in the time I was listening saying they were furious with the club, wanted answers from them as to who knew what and that whoever knew should be booted out of the Club.

    They did admit to three occasions of doing this, I would think it possible they did this before all their games, they must think it gave them an advantage over the other team for them to risk punishment.

    I think there is definitely more to come out with this - or at least there SHOULD be - no way they only spied on 3 teams -it's all very convenient that the other teams that they admitted to are already promoted Ipswich and already relegated Oxford (who they lost to) at vastly different stages of the season - Oxford in December then Ipswich end of April? (or was it the August game? same applies) So they did it once, then left it 4 months and did it again? Then only left it a few weeks to do it AGAIN to 'Boro - suss as fuck IMO. Questions need to be answered - Why them? and why ONLY them??

    If I was to posit a conspiracy theory it almost seems like if more doesn't come of it, it seems a bit of a cover up - because it could potentially throw up a whole host of issues for other teams if it came out they were doing it every week and cause an even bigger headache for the EFL in terms of the integrity of the whole season. Again, conspiracy theory view only but I think it was a pattern and they have only admitted to the least potentially damaging instances hoping it will go away - and maybe it's in the interests of the EFL to not dig too deep?

    They probably admitted to it hoping it would be looked on favourably and a lesser punishment received. Plus they knew they’d be done bang to rights so pleading innocence was futile.

    It was an Independent Panel that heard the evidence and decided the punishment wasn’t it?

    They announced they’d sold out about an hour before the announcement that they’d been kicked out! 


    As for refunds. I would imagine match tickets will be refunded, will be doing well to get trains/hotels etc refunded though. Maybe the club will do the decent thing and make sure none of their fans are out of pocket over this fiasco but I won’t hold my breath.

    to admit to spying on three teams...but not a lot of other teams in the division especially top 6/8  (like Wrexham/Derby/Coventry ) is a bit of a stretch. Appealing the punishment is crazy, they should get a bigger points deduction as a deterent to anyone else

    Might be the lowest attended Championship play off final for some time. Even now you'd have to be brave as a Middlesbrough fan to go booking trains/hotels as there's an outside chance Southampton get reinstated after their appeal.

    EFL have even today said "subject to the outcome, it could result in a further change to Saturday's fixture"

    You'd have to be very naive to believe they'd be spying on Oxford but not on the likes of Coventry, Wrexham, Millwall, Hull, Derby etc.

    The cynic in me suggests they've admitted to the Oxford game because they lost and the Ipswich game (they drew), so they can potentially argue in their appeal that the spying "didn't really matter".
    Yep, I agree they've probably done it more than 3 times. I have a slightly different angle - that they admitted to the fixtures where the spy recalled being approached, and they couldn't risk subsequently being called out.

    I reckon they admitted to wrongdoing against teams where it’s doesn’t really matter - but strange how their form chamged so spectacularly once Eckaert turned up and they were a shambles before.  They was some new manager bounce!  

    Who would have thought it involved a German spy

    Fair play to the EFL for doing the right thing.  They had to do the right thing and they did.  And we get a whole season of LOL’s at Southampton’s expense

    It does arouse suspicion doesnt it. We were shit that day but it seemed they knew exactly how we were going to line up looking back at it. Im sure more will come out.

    This in itself isn't uncommon though. They have a good squad and were one of the pre-season title favourites and just got off to a bad start. Back in August most people would've tipped them to finish top 6.

    Of course i get that it does look suspicious but i doubt it was solely down to 'spying' and probably has more to do with Will Still being useless.
