playing Devil's Advocate for once, I do have a little sympathy for Clarke. Just Imagine if you were him - 6 months ago he signs for the League leaderds in League 1 and expects to be playing in the Championship the following season - instead he hardly gets a game & then when the squad is assembled for pre-season he is frozen out - he doesn't go with the rest of his team mates to Spain but is left at home. Doesn't get to plau any proper pre-season games (which he needs to get match fit) and ends up playing with a bunch of kids & trialists at the training ground. Don't forget he is a seasoned pro and not some stroppy kid - perhaps he needs to be traeted like an adult, because I know if I was in his shoes I wouldn't ne too happy either.

So he's not happy Golfie....my guess is, is that's exactly what 'someone' who made the final decision not to take him on the tour will be hoping.
Only a guess of course, but it does seem that way doesn't it.

  • Personally, I don't feel much sympathy for Clarke.

He had a fabulous opportunity to join the League leaders and really become part of something special.

Others had the same chance and put their heart and soul into it - Danny Haynes for example, joined around the same time.

We know it's not the club and the player cameraderie that is wrong.
    So it must be Clarke.

Go, son. You've spurned your chance.

  • Hines is going to colchester - i have nothing to base this on, other than a feeling in my gut. plus him and sears where a good partnership back in their west ham's u18 days, so it would make sense to link them up again.

I tend to agree with this. It's not as though this is the first club he has had apparent difficulty settling at is it? Once could be bad luck, but consistently falling out with every single club you go to does not look good.

Best make this thread members only or we'll never get rid of him if other clubs read these endorsements!
  • Or use a Leon Clarke thread.
  • michael turner going to norwich

Charlton set to finalise deals for Sam Vokes and Zavon Hines this week. Leon Clarke will sign for Oldham for £75k. Paul Hayes is going to Scunthorpe for £120k.

Not ridiculous but fully expect none of the above to happen.
  • This would make me happy, and it somehow seems believable.
  • What's happened to baldock all gone quiet

it seems he's determined to stay at west ham and fight for a place.

    good luck with that.

I'm sure he also doesn't want to take such a big pay cut too.

    We can't afford him?

Especially if Andy Carroll is about to join them

  • These things take time. We will just have to wait and see.

  • The receiver for Portsmouth was on the radio this morning saying that part of their problem was average players earning 15,000 per week. You can see why we may be having trouble recruiting at present.
  • WHU bidding 18m for Carroll
  • The teams still getting parachute payments can obviously pay better wages.
It is not a level playing field in the championship.

I'm so bored SCP could sign anyone at the moment and I'd be happy.

Latest on PH is that he has had an offer from abroad, nowhere near leaving yet though!

  • I really wouldn't mind Hayes staying as backup to Big Yann.

Including a two year extension for Clarke?
