  • And now the Cards and Pirates are locked on with exactly the same record....the Brewers and Cubs with nothing to play for could well upset the St Louis Charltonlife lovefest!
  • Happy to have beaten the Evil Dodgers last night, too little too late sadly...
  • Pirates and Reds both lose while the Cards walk off in the tenth.

Only 4 hits, no earned runs and still win.
  • In NYC in a couple of weeks and going to watch the Yankees play against the Marlins at Yankee Stadium. Looking forward to it when I was last in New York earlier this year I had a couple of beers in the bar outside the stadium during the last innings against the Red Sox but this'll be the first time I've been inside.

Red Sox are on fire. Bucholz is back and better than ever, Uehara is closing like Rivera in his prime, and we are hitting for fun. I am almost worried we are too good heading in to the post season if that makes sense.
  • Hmm, 7 straight wins by the Nats is adding a new dimension to the fight for WC and, indirectly, the NL Central title. They're now 4.5 games behind the Reds. Next 9 games at home (all vs teams below 0.500 in total or on the road) and then a 3 game series in St Louis.
On a different point, I think it's daft to have NL v AL games at this stage of the season......of course I might change my view if we sweep the Mariners ;o)

Makes perfect sense. Peaking too soon is a habit of my NHL team, the Penguins. Nice to see the Yankees languishing down there 10 and a half back - be great if they don't make the postseason :)
  • Just the nineteen against the evil Dodgers last night...

Not sure if they've thought of a way of averting this scenario now there are 2 WC slots but presumably there is the bizarre possibility of a tie for the NL Central title causing a one game play-off between say Cards and Pirates with the loser then having another one-game play-off vs the 2nd WC slot (probably the Reds). That's all got to happen during the 3 days rest that the other post-season qualifiers enjoy. So the de facto 1st WC team could be disadvantaged against the 2nd WC team and even more so heading off to Atlanta, should they make it. Cripes..
On the other hand, having longer rest in the post-season seems to have been a disadvantage in recent times, at least when it comes to the World Series.

Now that there's nothing to play for they are really on fire!

  • what the fcuk are the Braves playing at, losing 2 out of 3 against San Diego, anyone would think they dont want home field advantage in the play off's they are starting to piss me off bigtime.

3-1 series win. Mind you the evil ones are so far ahead, I am sure they already have one eye on post-season...
  • Sorry guys, but as a Dodgers fan I am enjoying a bit of success over the Giants for a change, you folks have been better than us for far too long. How well we can do in the play-offs however is another question
  • The Braves are doing what they do best.....choking in the biggest fashion of all. 4 wins from 13.

15 games clear a week back, could be down to 7 by the end of today. A lot of people here in Atlanta still expect the Nats to take the division on the last day.

Should be OK with last 7 games at home vs Brewers and Phils (0.378 on the road). Anyway, the Cards will take care of the Nats in St Louis next week ;o)

I really hope so....after the one game wild card loss last year I don't think we could cope with anything else!

  • Sox's magic number to clinch the division title now down to 3.

Ah the memories. Quite a game that NL WC playoff last year ;o)
  • 2013 AL East Champions!!!!! Talk about knackered now after staying up all night. Only the 7th time the Sox have ever won it which is an indication of the dominance of the evil empire as much as anything. With a pitching rotation of Clay, Lester, Peavy, not forgetting an on fire Lackey - bring on the post season!

Hopefully cafc can make it a sporting double for me today.
  • Got to hand it to Farrell - Manager of the Year whatever happens post season. You'd be a brave man to bet against the Red Sox going the distance, especially with the AL having WS home advantage.
Things getting manic in the NL Central. Another extra innings game and win for the Cards (but another blown save) and the Reds scoring 3 in the 9th and taking the opener in the 10th in Pittsburgh. Crazy stuff. Reds and Bucs level, 2 games behind the Cards.
Reds and Bucs face each other another 5 times but the Cards have the hot Nats visiting for 3 from Monday. Going to the wire.

  • Another good night for the Cards. Not just a convincing win (should sweep the Brewers with Kelly pitching tonight in their last road game of the regular season) but the Nats being rained off means a double-header for them today before their trip to St Louis. Can't get too excited about Miami extending the Nats' bullpen though I guess and a pitching duel is likely Monday night (Roark v Wainwright). Massive game.

Bucs and Reds exchanging wins and defeats between themselves and 4 more to play most welcome.

    Live on ESPN tonight:

    6.30pm Reds v Pirates
    9pm Twins v A's
    1am Cards v Brewers
  • Marlins beat Nats clinching the NL East for the Braves and at least a play-off spot for the Cards.

  • Cards will go dormie 3 for the NL Central title if they can tame Zimmerman tonight and the Cubs avoid a home sweep by the Pirates.
Meanwhile ESPN is fixated with college football of course.
  • Wacha so so close to a no-no last night. Don't get the college football thing so close to the end of the season.
  • as an aside, I see the Pittsburgh Pirates broke their streak of 22 consecutive losing seasons - the longest in the major sports.
  • Cards have such a good farm system and some terrific young flame-throwers. That bullpen concerns me though but Waino held it together when Izzy went down in '06 and maybe Rosenthal will do likewise this time around. Mind you, we need to get Holliday and (though doubtful) Craig back to keep the runs flowing.
TV coverage now is pathetic. It was always the same on ESPN America. Was hoping BT might figure that audiences here would (IMO - if I may use that abbreviation) be considerably more interested in crunch time in MLB. Seemingly not.
    COYRedbirds.
  • Was at the Braves v Brewers game last night.....you cannot beat a walk off 9th inning victory. Go Braves!

Cards win and sweep the Nats. Reds lose. Come on you Cubbies! 4-1 ahead end of the 6th!
Cubs win. Cards magic number now 1.
Looking like a home-starting series vs the Dodgers.
  • I'm working in NYC right now and going to the Mets game at Citi Field tomorrow, any tips for beer/food within the stadium ?

As an aside there's a poster for the Red Bulls on the subway ("the beautiful game, closer") and I had to drinkebly advise the patrons moments that Henry wasn't their best player but a certain BWP was !

You must have a Nathan's FootLong (hot dog that is). Citi Field is a terrific stadium - you can walk all the way round while watching the game, even if the Mets are basically crap.
