YEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAHHHH! KERSHAW CRUSHED. Bring on the Sox! COYRedbirds
Looking forward to reliving '04 . Glad the Cards made it didn't want the Dodgers there
Really hoping the Red Sox make it. Should be a cracking WS. Win or lose, a sweep would be a bore. Let's do it in 7. Much made of the way the Cards made the best of Pujols' departure - and they sure did - but, just as important, they made a brave but great choice when replacing La Russa. Francona is a great manager but they did right to pass him over for Matheny - what a cool dude. Totally out-managed Mattingley throughout the series.
Yyyyyyyyeeeeeeesssss! Another great game and the Red Sox win. After all the chat about Iglesias, he ended up making the error that may have cost the Tigers the game. Feel sorry for the lad. Detroit's starting pitchers were awesome, but Boston still managed to get past them - great effort from them all. Bring on the Cards!
I have too much adrenalin. Sleep aint happening. Where do you start? Shane Victorino in a funk all series gets a slam in the 7th to turn around a 2-1 deficit. Koji faultless again and MVP. What a play from Drew (twice) who provides such great defence. The first baseball game I ever watched as a 6 year old was the 86 Buckner game. After years of hurt when it would have been easy to lose interest, nights like this are up there with CAFC moments for me. Flying to the USA on Thursday at 10am. And I will be at Busch Stadium for game 4 in a box with my work (I will never moan about a pay rise or bonus again! )

Deeply envious. Enjoy. Well done BoSox - the pennants went to the best teams in their respective Leagues. Should be a cracking WS. If Wacha does pitch game 2, Cards absolutely must take one of the first 2. Watch out Fenway, heeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrre's Carlos!..................and he wants his ring.
...and a polite request to BT/ESPN. Please, please, please give us coverage from someone other than FOX. It may be his last series but don't spoil the WS for us with McCarver's witterings.
Great game. We hung in there after dropping to 2-1 and kept doing our thing. And it paid off.
On a separate note, I do feel sorry for the tigers fans I know. This was their big chance. Over 100m of their 140m payroll is invested in 5 players. Scherzer, Martinez and some others are likely gone after this year. They'll be back again next year but I know that they believed this was their best chance.
And Charlton won. The weekend can't get much better than that!!!!!
Should be a great series. Even though they beat my Dodgers in the NLCS and the Red Sox have the extra home game I'll take the Cards to win it in 6 or 7. They have the better starting pitching in my view and that is usually the key. Will watch as much of it as I can so might not get a lot of sleep starting Wednesday night.
It's so tough to call. I agree that the quality of starting pitcher is often key and the Cards look like they are superior there, but the Red Sox starters aren't exactly mugs. I think (and hope) the difference might be the bullpen where, among others, Boston have Koji. He was MVP for a reason.
The Cards almost certainly do have better overall starting pitching than the Red Sox - but then so did Detroit, and we all know what happened there. It should be a very close series, with individual moments of brilliance or individual mistakes likely to be the difference.
Problem with our bullpen is that Koji has been superb, and Breslow has been good at set up. But outside of that, we are not actually that deep and that could be where we hurt. If our starting pitcher does have a mare and we have to go to the pen early, we will need a Tazawa, Doubront, Dempsey etc to step up. And remember that we may have to drop 1 of Ortiz or Napoli to accomodate the NL rules at Busch. Unless we move Napoli to second, Pedroia to third and Ortiz at first - which is unlikely.
We surely won't move Dustin. He's just too good at 2nd base. My money would be on dropping Napoli and Papi for one game each, then make a decision for the third game (if needed!) The other option depends on whether Napoli can play at 3rd base at the expense of Middlebrooks/Bogaerts. I doubt that though. Stephen Drew might've been at risk due to his poor showings at the plate recently if it weren't for the fact that he's such a good shortstop. We've already seen how much value there is in having the likes of Drew and Pedroia in those central infield slots. There are so many possibilities, it's truly fascinating.
I don't think the Red Sox will want to lose Ortiz's bat when the series moves to St Louis and the DH doesn't apply. My guess is they will play him at 1st and move Napoli to 3rd
What a good and brave call from the umpires in the first inning of the World Series. Sox 3-0 up in the first with 1 out due to an error on a double play chance and a reversed call by the umps. Great start!
Great start to the series for the Sox. We jumped all over Wainwright's fastball early and there may be some concern for Wacha if we can do it again tonight.
Lackey will need to be at his best again so hopefully the lights go out for a second time and the "psycho" persona returns.
I don't see either Nap or Papi playing the hot corner in St. Louis. We will ride the hot bat at first which would suggest Ortiz after last night.
Beltran is day to day after bruising his ribs and with the return of Craig he can't DH.
I think the Cards have to take tonight's game with Kelly and Lynn up first in St. Louis, both are good but not nearly to the level of AW and Wacha and Buchholz and Peavy are due to come good. (They have to eventually right?)
Cards to level it tonight. Wacha will be lights out. Kozma & Carpenter will turn 4 DPs and Carlos will hit a pinch-hit homer to clinch it. Well, I can dream can't I?

I just cannot wait for this to start now.
A great sporting story could be on the verge of happening here. Even the Beeb are on to it.

I am extremely jealous!
Robbed by the umpires : - )
