Good to hear, jdsd42.
Hoping to make the Essex match on Weds evening, weather permitting.
73-1 Key gone for 37. Lead of 20 and will probably need to bat 'til Tea to force a draw.
That might become somewhat onerous judging by the fact we've gone from 71-0 to 73-3 with Northeast and Nash back in the hutch with Key. Jesse Ryder has taken all three.
86-3 but more to the point D B-D is still there. 21* in 146 minutes off 109 balls.
Who's been coaching him? Chris Tavare?
Playing like a proper opener by the sound of it. Every team needs a Boycott or, in Kentish terms, Luckhurst in a situation where you need to bat long enough to avoid defeat.
There is no chance of winning this match so we have to ensure that we don't lose it.
On another note, Northeast's form in the CC continues in the same vein as the rest of this season.
Out for 2 and 1 in this match he now has scored just 214 runs for 15 times out at an average of 14.27. That's not a small sample and whilst I recognise that he's done reasonably well in the T20, the fact is that his form in the four day game is very poor.
If the likes of Blake or Cowdrey don't get a chance in front of Northeast now they never will.

I agree Len and the comment was somewhat tongue in cheek although I didn't make that clear. He actually has done very well for us and averages 43 in the CC this season whereas his opening partner, Key, averages less than 20.

I can only assume Northeast is in possession of photographs of Graham Johnson running naked round the St Lawrence ground or similar.

Why else is he still playing?
I suspect it's because he may have been promised the Captaincy next season and it's even more difficult justifying that announcement at the end of the season if the lad is playing with the stiffs. However bad a season he's has in the first team.
And I suppose it's a bit like buying raffle tickets. The more innings he gets the more chance that he will get that big score!

Kent v Middlesex - halfway point Kent 208-4
Great comeback after last night's disappointment.

Essex are 253-1 in reply to Kent's 387 all out.
:-)
A wicket for Harmison. Thought he'd given up bowling!
Kent 9-0 in their second innings.
Meanwhile, Alfonso Thomas takes 4 wickets in 4 balls for Somerset against Sussex.
