They like him to come in for the last 15 overs or so i.e. once we have a platform to build on. We didn't have a platform so his 40 off 40 was, in the circumstances, a very decent knock.
I've now "torn up" my each way betting slip @ 33/1 on us in the hope that a miracle might happen!
Just heard my wife's nephew has got a two year pro contract with Essex. Might make senior debut next week if recovers from a current bout of illness against er Kent ....
Just goes to show what can happen when you answer an SOS and drive down to Bristol to help out a county 2nd XI the day after your 21st birthday party

Great news Mr OL.
Perhaps you could have a quiet word for when they do play us ;-)

Thanks AA.
Maybe we can win but he takes a five for...
I'll settle that. I'd even let me take 10 in the match!
Posting without reading, but just noticed Billings came in at 8 - whats that all about ?? - he's your best batsman and yet he's left til the end - and cant make any significant contribution. Do you think he could play for England as a one-day batsman only ?
It was fun while it lasted. Billings at number 8 was ridiculous. He was always going to be batting with the last recognised batsman at best or the tail at worst. Commentators did not understand that and Billings was not best pleased when interviewed.

I got that impression too regarding Billings' reaction. He's waited a few years to take over from Jones and this was another opportunity for him to showcase his talent and that became stifled by virtue of the situation we were in.
The most important thing that Kent can do now is to ensure that we don't lose any of our youngsters in the same way as Coles.
Should Key retire at the end of the season, that will free up some money to bring in a decent overseas pro to help the new skipper (Northeast) and our younger players.
Overall I have to say that I have been quite impressed with our performance this season especially in the latter half of the season. If we can build on that in the next couple of seasons, success will come. And with that larger gates and better additions to the squad.
I hope so and agree that the performances have been a couple of notches up. It will be interesting to see how many times they will be using Beckenham in the future.
What sort of an overseas player would we want though?
I think we are lightweight in the bowling but wouldnt say no to a Da Silva or Dravid though !!!
A batsman who has played Test cricket (but isn't anymore for cost and availability reasons) and who can help the likes of Northeast, D B-D, Cowdrey, Blake, Billings etc etc.
If that player does replace Key (who has been extremely disappointing with the bat in the last couple of seasons) and we get say Bollinger back next year then we will have a decent side.
Comments
Billings 31 n/o (36)
Griffiths 10 n/o (27)
Billings 40 n/o (40)
Griffiths 12 n/o (29)
Warks need 216 to win...

Chopra 13 n/o (42)
Trott 22 n/o (21)
We need to get Trott out...

Trott gone for 58. c Nash b Griffiths
Chopra gone now for 50 - lbw to Riley. Two new batsmen....
Not surprised to see we lost but as the commentators said, we needed to post another 50 runs or so to have any chance.
Ah well, there's always next season.
