  • even if somebody bought the palace franchise and at the same time bought the ground, surely they'd need to spend a fortune on doing it up or are the two stands along the sides of the pitch better than they look ?...
  • [cite]Posted By: pauldcpfc[/cite]But, the ground will be purchased a lot cheaper by a prospective owner than it would have been 6 months ago. Probably enough to cover some renovations.
Why? Why would the ground's administrators now want to sell it for less than they wanted six months ago?
  • [cite]Posted By: pauldcpfc[/cite]In all honesty, all 4 stands are fine. None are in need of desperate change.

I'll have a pint of whatever you're drinking Paul! Have a good look at the Arthur Wait...

Paul, being fourth from bottom is not exactly an attractive proposition for any buyer even if you had a brand new 30,000 stadium. Any potential buyers will be thinking about the end of the season and whether you will stay up in my opinion. It's more about timing if you ask me. You have only got to look us, average 16,000 at home and 4th in the Leaque. Our club was for sale when we were top of this leaque a couple of months ago, but we were still unable to sell. You have some equity in your team, granted, but that equity belongs to the current creditors. A serious amount of money would be required to take over Palace, clear the debts, buy the ground and update it, buy a training ground and invest in the team. That sort of money is not freely available these days and banks are no longer willing to risk lending.

I'm sure I read somewhere that one of the stands is subsiding.

The Holmesdale End (the new shiny one) has serious structural issues with regard to the ground it is built on. Along with 3 foot of water in designated bowling alley underneath.

The 'Main Stand' is unlikely to get a fire safety certificate again as it's mainly built of wood - how Croydon council gave it all clear a couple of years ago, I'll never know.

[cite]Posted By: pauldcpfc[/cite] Everyone posts the negative news, so i'll post the little positive we have:

BRENDAN Guilfoyle believes the sale of Crystal Palace has taken a significant step forward after a successful meeting with the administrators in control of Selhurst Park yesterday.

The complicated issue of ownership of the ground has been the main stumbling block in attracting potential buyers since Guilfoyle was appointed to run the club on behalf of the P & A Partnership.

It was feared that any interested parties would be out off if the option of buying the freehold of Selhurst Park was not part of any package.

However, Guilfoyle met with Laurie Manson of Pricewaterhouse Coopers to discuss the best way forward for both parties and is now feeling much more confident of a successful outcome.

"It was an excellent, constructive meeting," he said. "I am confident that their preferred route is now to sell the ground, which is what we want.

"They are getting it valued in the next few days. The ideal situation for us now is to find the buyer, they can then settle with the creditors and then talk to PWC about the ground."

Guilfoyle was also optimistic that while the club were still leasing the ground from PWC a more reasonable rent can be agreed on.

"We are hoping to fix a commercial rent on the ground rather than the inflated one that is currently in place," he added.

For all the latest Palace news see Friday's Croydon Advertiser.

Can't see any positives from that.

Another meeting with nothing agreed - and Guilfoyle talking about 'a significant step forward', 'successful meeting', 'feeling much more confident of a successful outcome', 'excellent, constructive meeting', 'ideal situation for us now is to find the buyer', 'optimistic'.

So absolutely nothing resolved. Nil. Nowt. Bugger all.

PWC have a legal responsibility to the creditors of Rock Investments to get the highest figure they can. Even a 20% reduction in the rent is still £1m PA. Even a 20% reduction in the contractually agreed figure to purchase SP is still £14.8m.

If you were owed monies by them would you be calling for the administrator to accept a reduction?

Somehow I can't see Guilfoyle coming out and saying "After yet another meeting (at £600 per hour) we are no further forward in resolving the issues created for the Club by the previous tosser of a chairman. CPFC (2000) Ltd are really up shit creek without a paddle and the canoe is owned by a hedge fund".

[cite]Posted By: thewolfboy[/cite]Paul, I was looking at the 'Holmesdale' blog the other day and your lot were creaming themselves re the two benefactors who might buy into palace, with Uncle Ron of course. At the time I thought, "don't count your chickens" cos we have been there with the arabs Zebreel non buy out and it all fizzled out into nothing.
Obviously Ron would love to get his ground back and at a discount. But the actual buyers then have to fork out an awful lot of money to run palace and then almost certaintly lose in the region of 5 million each year. It's a big ask.
Still, if worse comes to worse there is the AFC Wimbledon route, where at least the club is back in the fans hands where it started all those years ago.
Who knows, we may even have to take the long route back ourselves.
Uncle Ron doesn't want the club, he wants the ground. And in my opinion he can go fuck himself anyway. If Noades is around, you know there is money in it for him.

The positive for me, is that Steve Parish has met with the administrators yet again in the last week. The administrators have asked for the ground to be valued and it could mean many things.

The positive outlook would be that Parish wants a buy everything together deal and wants it valued. Another outlook could be Noades sniffing around again.

Paul, is Parish trying to buy it on his own or does he have the backing of someone else? Reason i ask is that i know he owns TAG but i'd be amazed if he's got enough money to run Palace by himself.
  • Got to agree with Medders. I sat in the Arthur waite stand during our abysmal 1 - 0 defeat to palace last year and it was awful, really terrible. I spent part of the game looking for rats. Broken wooden seats, horrible columns so that you couldn't see all the pitch and very dark so there might be health and safety issues. On the plus side the concourse had been brightened up a bit since our previous visit the year before (1 - 0 to the Addicks) when there were cracks on the wall, paint peeling off etc.
I know this is a bit off the main thread but our main gripe was about the bottled beer, Fosters I think, as it was warm, and this was in the home end! Paul, next time we play palace at the Valley (Quite possibly next year if you continue your current slide) pop into Bartrums bar and I'll buy you a decent pint: chilled Guiness for example. Assuming of course both clubs are not hacking it in the Rymans league.

Obviously it's all conjecture at the moment, but my understanding of it is Parish is one of several, which in my opinion would be the ideal situation, and one that if Jordan had allowed to happen a few years ago, would have meant us not been in this position now.

  • Taken from The Mirror :-

Flavio Briatore last night stepped down as QPR chairman as Lakshmi Mittal prepares to name Neil Warnock as boss after increasing his stake.

Steel magnate Mittal, one of the world's richest men, has bought most of Briatore's 30 per cent stake to take control at Loftus Road as predicted by Mirrorsport on Tuesday.

And Mittal, who has named Ishan Saksena as the club's new chairman, now hopes to bring in Crystal Palace chief Warnock to manage the ailing Championship club.

Mick Harford, yet to win in six games in charge, will be boss for today's game at home to Doncaster which Rangers need to win after slipping near the drop zone.
  • Bottom 3 Championship side now. Must knock a few bob more of the already negative value.
  • The Palace fans are debating who their new manager should be if Warnock goes to QPR. I would have thought they will have to promote from within because they can't offer anyone a new contract. Anyone know if I'm right or not.
  • Perhaps the orange one will fancy a go. He has not been that shy in offering footballing advice to previous managers allegedly. Now, that would make my season !
  • I feel very confident that Palace will be playing Clowntown next season....... it's just a question of ???

    What cup?
  • Coin Wanker one of the favorites for the QPR role with Palarse accepting compo after their cup expoits are over
  • Down with the Janners, you're going down with the Janners
  • Warnock will be hoping Palace slip out of the cup at Villa, so he can leave for QPHa. If they somehow managed a win here, you'd have to think he would find it hard to leave with real prospects of a semi-final appearance on the horizon.
  • he wont leave until they are out of the cup so unless they win the fa cup i am led to believe he wont make the end of the season

  • Did anyone see Warnock interviewed on Sky this morning. He said that no one should have to go through the sort of year he has had. This suggests firstly that he is making his excuses before exiting stage right and that he might have been having problems with the orange one for quite sometime.
  • NLA on the previous page - did you mean Colin Wanker?

Because a Coin Wanker is a much different thing....
  • Coin Wanker always wins the toss.
  • The BBC are saying this morning it could be Warnock to QPR and Gareth Southgate to Palace...................bloody hell, just when they thought it could not get any worse ;-)
  • [cite]Posted By: eaststandmike[/cite]The BBC are saying this morning it could be Warnock to QPR and Gareth Southgate to Palace...................bloody hell, just when they thought it could not get any worse ;-)

Southgate is an ex player and is out of work so will be just what they're looking for.
They certainly won't get a manager currently in a job as they won't be able to pay any compensation.
  • I don't think Southgate is that bad a manager, certainly worse available out there.

Though if your figthing a relegation battle you'd rather have Warnock there than anyone else!
  • Another HUUUUGE crowd there on saturday as well. 13,333.

Less the ST holders who didnt turn up and you can make that just over 10k as the actual attendance rather than tickets sold

    I don't

Yep not a great crowd at all, hard to say exactly why it's that low, Portsmouth also played in front of many empty seats.........I don't for one minute think it's because they no longer care but more that it is all simply beyond there control, as it is for us, the last time we were in admin, there was a belief the fans could make a difference and have a say, this time that does not seem or feel like its the case.

Still does this number 8,858 mean anything to you?...........it was the attendance at the final home game at the valley before you had to leave. You must have really pulled out all the stops that day ;-)
