Having been a sports journalist for many years, and getting to cover more than a dozen Wimbledons and four World Cups, etc. ... I'll add only non-sports figures to the discussion:

George H.W. Bush in Newport, RI
    Prince Albert of Monaco
    Al Gore in Miami
    Ted Kennedy
    John Kerry
    Christina Aguilera
John Travolta in a rest room on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1976.

Travolta -- I was on my way to look at a university in Philadelphia, and my family stopped at a diner/rest stop on the Jersey Pike to get something to eat. I went to use the facilities, and standing at the next one was Travolta. I recall he was wearing a tuxedo and looked like he had been up all night.
He did wash his hands before leaving.

[cite]Posted By: CHG[/cite]Clint Eastwood at work. Princess Beatrix was at the Fitzroy Tavern on Charlotte Street on Friday, didn't banter her though.

She's goes to Goldsmith's, I met my mate who goes there at a pub before going out on a uni social, and the Princess was in there. Perfectly normal girl tbf, minder was a laugh as well, though wouldn't wanna piss him off!

I think toilet celebrity encounters are the funniest...except when George Michael is involved obviously

I've had a pee stood nect to Murray Walker (the old F1 commentator). All I could think about was him commentating on my piss as it worked its way round the u-bend, down to the next turn etc...

When washing my hands, bloke started talking to me about The Feeling gig I had just seen during Fresher's Week at uni. When he asked what I thought of the gig I said something like "Thought it was a bit s**t really, bad music, obviously miming, bored me to be honest". Got out the loos, see the event poster on the wall and it was only the lead singer......whoops

Joey Ramone -(met is probably a little strong, it was more of a casual acknowledgment that we were both on planet Earth)

Frank Carson in the Beehive years ago. Such an infectiously funny man - great to chat to.

Ken Livingstone on the tube when he was mayor. Pleasant enough bloke.

Enoch Powell sat opposite me on the train up from Bath to Paddington. He looked looked like a corpse - bloody scary - he asked to borrow my paper then nicked it when he got off.

Simon LeBon at a Sneaker Pimps gig at The Garage, back in '97.

Being a massive 'Duranie', I had to speak to him, & a very nice chap he was too! Very friendly & chatty, actually seemed to take an interest in who I was, & even told me an 'exclusive', that John Taylor had just left the band.(Wasn't in the press at the time). As Tim Nice-But-Dim would say: 'Blaahdy nice bloke'!

Holly Johnson(Frankie Goes To Hollywood), when I was working in a guitar shop in Fulham, 8 years ago. Friendly enough, hilariously camp, & with a pampered/pimped up micro poodle.

Jamie-T, came into the drum shop I work in, to buy a kit. Very nice chap & a decent drummer too!

Al Murray, also in the drum shop. Nice, but a very serious chap. No bawdy histrionics in 'real life', from him.

Kerry King - Slayer guitarist, when I played on the Ozzfest tour. Not a very nice man. Ego-tastic!

Mystery Jets - Played with them a fair few times in the Kingston area, with an old band of mine, before they were 'famous'

Graham Coxon - He was tanked up & trying to use his skateboard at 3am on Camden High Street. Just seemed scared.

Many members of 'minor league status' alternative rock, metal & indie bands I've shared stages with across the world, over the years.

I was once feet away from Martin Peters waiting for his kids to come off a ride at Disneyworld. Was about to go for a chat and general hero-worship but was stopped by my (now ex-)wife who told me to "leave him alone he doesn't want to be pestered by the likes of you".
Was once told "don't move" by my (now ex-)wife only to find out that I was missing Andy Summers (of Police fame) walking by to get on a plane.
If you ever see me being shot by my ex then look around quickly because someone REALLY famous will be walking by.......

I actually met Ed Moses while having a pee at Crystal Palace athletics stadium- one of the Coca Cola athletics meetings of the late 70's/ very early 80's.
I was a young lad and I'm ashamed to say I pestered him for an autograph before he'd really got his hands free.

Shook hands and spoke briefly to Tony Blair (sad circumstances, as he visited the company I worked for back in 2001 - we lost 16 colleagues during the 9/11 attacks)
Drinking and chatting with Tea Ropati (Kiwi rugby league player) in an Auckland bar a couple of years ago
Pete Doherty in a dodgy snooker club in North London - he was properly f@cked on something
Maybe not that famous, but Rene Kirby (from Shallow Hal - guy born with Spina Bifida) in a pub in Burlington, Vermont. He arrived in the pub on the same bicycle as he uses in Shallow Hal. Very surreal, but genuinely a nice guy

Met Sir Paul Smith and Mark Cavendish on Sat night. Cavendish is a really nice bloke whereas thought Paul Smith was a grumpy f@cker!

Met Sir Geoff Hurst on Saturday at our Basildon Town Football Club fun day. He spent a couple of hours there signing autographs and chatting to all the kids. He was such a breathe of fresh air after Fridays nights events!

Also met my boyhood hero Nicky Johns when I was mascot at the Valley many years ago :)
