1950: Don Townsend signs professional. 268 apps, 1 goal.

And we never lost when he scored. FACT ;-) Actually his only goal came on Boxing Day 1960 when we beat Plymouth 6-4. This is particularly notable, because the scoreline was reversed the very next day.

2011: Kelly Youga released. Although in reality, he hadn't played for the Addicks since sustaining a knee injury against Bristol Rovers in November 2009. In all, Youga played 71 matches for Charlton. After a shaky start Youga hit some fine form at the beginning the 2009-10 season; It's not unreasonable to speculate that his injury might have cost us promotion that season. Youga was signed by Yeovil in January this year. Within 45 minutes of his first match against Bristol City he picked up a knock and never played again.

Worner is now with Aldershot and played 25 matches for The Shots last term. Sadly though, he injured his back and has been ruled out for the whole of the coming season.

Sorry VM, it was either that or tell you that on 8th August 1900, Augustus Hipkin was born. But as he only played one match, a 4-1 defeat to Bristol City some 86 years ago, I thought Traore was probably a bit more important to most Addicks fans. If anyone's got any happier Charlton anniversaries for this day please feel free to add them otherwise it's looking pretty sorry.

Trying to beat yesterday as a bad-Charlton day:

2007: Charlton signed Izale McCleod for £1.5m from MK Dons. McLeod had scored almost a goal every-other game whilst at MK and his value had risen ten-fold. Four goals, 39 Addicks appearances and three unimpressive loan spells later and his contract was cancelled. McLeod wound up at Barnet where his goals have helped them cling on to their league position (just). In May he was released from the Bees.

2011: Jason Euell re-signs. Thirteen days later he scored as Charlton beat Reading in the League cup, later in the season a goal against Carlisle in the FA cup would take his Addicks tally to 39.

1981: I have a note that the The Jimmy Seed Stand opened on this date, but no reference for it. This would mean that it was at a friendly against Birmingham. Can anyone confirm this?
