1958: A storm leaves parts of The Valley under 6 inches of water. Offices, changing rooms and the boardroom were all flooded. Just four hours and much pumping later a match takes place. Charlton beat Grimsby 2-1.

He had broken his neck the previous day whilst diving into the sea following a victory over Torquay. 1936: First victory in a top flight match at The Valley. 2-0 over a Stoke side featuring Stanley Matthews. Prior and Boulter got the goals. This result meant that Charlton were top of League Division 1 for the first time in their history. 1976: Charlton beat Southampton 2-1 in the league cup. The first goal was scored by Derek Hales, it was the first in a club record of eight consecutive games that he would score. 1985: Charlton beat Palace 3-1 (Reid 2, Pearson), but the more important news was off the pitch: Leaflet announces Charlton to leave The Valley.
