If England lose this series they lose the No1 tag too, so a win is necessary. Bresnan and Finn in for the injured Broad and rested Pannaser. Patel is kept to play his 2nd and final Test.
Sri Lanka won toss and elected to bat. Similar start to 1st Test as England took 3 early wickets, all to Anderson and Sangerkarra was again out first ball.
Currently they are 63-3.

Today’s match marks the 30th anniversary of the inaugural Test between the two countries. England stopped off in Colombo to play this after their dreary and dour series in India, just before the news broke of the rebel SA tour.
Can you name the England XI.
Some clues, 3 went to SA and for one of those it was their final Test.
It was also the captain’s final Test.
As me old mate Dave Rudd would say....no googling!
What is the total amount of test runs made to date ? Such as 50,000, 100,000,000 etc.
NB SL are 177-4.
1) Englands batting coach
2) Was top man at Durham when they first won CC
3) Ridiculed for slow scoring but was under orders and batted freely for Kent
4) England's best batsman ever!
5) Capt. Refused SA rebel contract as thought he'd keep captaincy, never played another Test
6) Not Nick Knight but another one
7) Keeper who couldn't bat.
8) Peckham born off spinner known as Ernie
9) No.6 wannabe
10) Nightshade
11) Zimmerman fan
6 is a cryptic clue (A Knight but not Nick)- If you get six you'll get 9.
I'll ponder on the others!
Is 5) Fletcher?
You will often see Sri Lanka's home games listed at Colombo, the capital. However there are over 20 grounds in Colombo where 1st class cricket is or has been played. Today’s ground is the P Sarva Oval. Also or formerly known as Colombo Oval and P.Saravanamuttu Stadium.
However England have only played here once before, as mentioned in the OP, for Sri Lankas first ever Test Match. It has been used 16 times for Tests including a neutral venue for Pak v Aus in 2002.
In the crowd today is one Derek Underwood who played in that famous Test match for England in 1982, his last Test incidently. That was not Underwood’s only match on the ground though, click on the link to see the scorecard from 1967/68 where he was playing for an International World XI. He certainly lived up to his nickname in that match!!
