Cole is an utter w*nker of a man but has never hid on a football pitch, even in an england shirt. Deserved the motm award tbh.
Agreed. Cant stand the bloke, but have to respect him on the pitch. Was absolutely fantastic yesterday.

... I thought Lampard was awesome and hope he gets preffered to Gerrard for England. No way can you play them together. Although penalties decided game, Chelsea moved ball quicker and despite less posession looked better side
Lampard has always always been awesome for Chelsea. Trouble is, he's never quite lived up to expectations for England. The only time he did, his goal was disallowed.

Even that's pretty unfair Stig, his England record is 90 caps, 23 goals, leading English scorer and in the tournament XI at Euro 2004, top scorer in our WC 2006 qualification campaign, granted he's missed a penalty in a tournament shoot-out but who hasn't?

The truth is we never quite figured out how to use him properly at international level and certainly haven't post-SGE.

Lampard will hardly get a game at Euro 2012 , and I think that's a real shame as he has always looked good for Chelsea and is one of the better England players. However with Gerrard as captain I can't see where Lampard can fit in.

I personally think he'll go something like:

    Parker (if not fit, Barry)
    Gerrard Lampard
    Walcott Carroll Young

Got to be honest I never realised he'd scored that many. I just have this vision in my head of him with his tongue sticking out as he's missed another opportunity.

Fair enough, I think he is statistically the worst England player at a world cup ever in terms of number of shots per goal (0) but he hasn't been all dreadful, always tried in my opinion which is more than can be said for some of his team mates

    Young Parker Lampard Downing
    -------Gerrard Carroll-------

Don't know why this won't work, really believe the whole "can't play together" thing between Gerrard and Lampard is a lot of rubbish, maybe as a two but not a three. Lampard played that more defensive role alongside Mikel and Mata last night with no problems.

On topic, for anyone who wants a recap:

Seems to me tha Lampard is playing a more holding type of role for Chelsea these days, don't think he got forward too much. Perhaps if he did that for England with Gerrard more advanced that would work better than previously when they both were looking to advance. He looked quality last night I thought.

Edit: just saw above post saying same thing!

See post third up from the top of this page... figures don't lie, he may never have been as good as he has been for Chelsea but to say he's never played well isn't really true is it?

Those who say Lampard hasn't played well for England are the ones who generally expect us to go and win everything a tournament comes about.

He has got so much stick throughout his career, but I've always found him to be a likeable bloke who stays loyal to club and country.

He went something like five years without missing a single league game. When you consider the amount of football he plays for Chelsea combined with the stick he gets from simple minded England fans - he deserves a lot of credit for still making himself available for selection.

I can't argue with that at all. I just feel that it's not always worked for England for him. Perhaps, as others have said, because of his similarities with Gerard.

to be fair to lamps he's seemed to age better than Gerrard. A couple of seasons ago i would have had Gerrard in the team and dropped lampard, as back then a Gerrard on top of his game is better than lampard on top of his game. But the past season Gerrard hasn't looked as world class and lampard is growing up into a more experienced figure for chelsea and he seems to still be doing well.

Well done to Chelsea for winning the biggest club prize in football.I am delighted for my Brother in law who has supported Chelsea home and away for over fifty years. He has seen Chelsea through the hard times and travelled to Munich by coach,as he can't fly.I spoke to him shortly after the game finished and i have never heard anyone so happy.

Terry played in 90% of their Champions league games to get to the final so he has played a part in them winning it
Obviously played a lot more Champions "League" football than Bertrand who appeared in the final

just had a group of kids going down the road singing Chelsea. Who says other English clubs sucess doesnt affect our fanbase. Never unerstood support the English club. It's like saying support the south london team. Am i supposed to support scumwall and palarse is they are playing nothern teams.
You are so right Redman. I find it really strange that others don't see it. Every bit of success they have puts more money in their bank account, more supporters on their terraces and makes it just a little bit harder for us.
I kind of see where you're coming from but if you lived abroad you'd see it differently. It doesn't matter who plays for an English club because the French (for example) always refer to the team involved as 'les anglais.' Other people in other countries see that an English club has won it and that's all.
All in all it is quite prestigious for English football when you see how many times our clubs have won it. Just see how sick it makes Platini. Even his French socialist 'fair play' rules won't change it as he wants, because we simply have more passion for the game.
Yeah but Jimmy, as you say, I don't live abroad. I live in England. Why should I care what other people think (oops, I know that sounds a bit Millwall), let alone Platini? It makes no odds to me whatsoever. As a Charlton supporter, I want what's best for my club and, like it or not, that isn't for teams in the same city to be winning major trophies. The next time Chelsea come in with a last minute bid to nick one of our talented young players, the fact that they'll get the chance to play with a silly little star on their shirt will make it even harder for them to resist. Right now, there will be kids in Dartford, Welling and maybe even down Harvey Gardens who have decided to support Chelsea as a result of tonight's win. Some of them, just might have grown up to support Charlton had things gone differently. Maybe some of them will be open to conversion later in life, but others will have effectively been bitten by zombie fangs; destined to to roam the Earth for evermore as semi-sentient blue shirted beings. That makes me sad. Sad for them, sad for Charlton and sad for Humankind.
It's up to Charlton to find and sign the best talent in South East London - not too many youth players going through the ranks at Chelsea... and it's up to Charlton to ensure that kids interested in watching footy go down to the valley - we've got a few thousand empty seats to fill and can compete on price easily... so if we catch them now in the Championship we will have a bigger fan base...

Having said that I see your point re. West Ham, Palace where all I wish is relegation, administration etc.

A likeable bloke.......mmmmm must haveplayed well for England then. I think the Hammers fans might also disagree about the loyalty bit.
