Not doubting that at all, just don't agree that you can say its all rubbish

My opinion based on the almost total lack of real evidence is that claims for the existence for ghosts, fairies, demons and flying spaghetti monsters are rubbish.

  • How many times I wonder have people said to their friends and loved ones before they die that if there is any way back then they will find it. I know two. My wife's uncle and my dad. I'm still waiting to be contacted. As for "ghosts" of persons I didn't previously know I have a challenge to contact me much the same as I have challenged God to contact me even if it means getting struck by lightening. It's hasn't happened yet and I'm not expecting it to happen any time soon.

yer that's fair enough mate, you're not in the minority. But some people's comments are of complete ignorance and shows how hard it is to even try and prove these things. I respect other people's opinions/beliefs, some don't. CBA keep going on about it, didn't mean to be rude, just frustrates me sometimes.

My ex use to watch this, sitting there watching it one night and they were in a nightclub toilet, that Scouser started up and the automatic air-freshener went off in his face, he started shouting "It spat at me, It spat at me!". lol, if the concerntrate from one of those air-fresheners goes off in your face, you know it's an air freshener.

  • Most people don't tell their stories because they often get slammed straight away by ignorant people such as yourself.

As I said, not saying I believe. So your efforts to look clever was a waste of time.

Hahaha that's great. The Mrs used to watch this show religiously, remember them doing one in Chislehurst caves not so long ago.
  • arguing about ghosts...brilliant.
  • Carl Sagen - The Demon Haunted World. Great read on why Ghosts/Aliens etc are all rubbish.

Not only did you misspell his name but you're misrepresenting what the book is about. Either that or you totally misunderstood it.

Wind your neck in. The limitations of mobile phones mean my review wasn't as full as it could have been. So here's a fuller review.

The Demon-Haunted World is a collection of twenty-five essays, several written with Sagan's wife, Ann Druyan. The essays range in scope from eloquent paeans to science to impassioned denunciations of bigotry, from humorous accounts of a variety of pseudoscientific endeavors to serious attempts to understand the nature of alien abduction delusions. With intelligence and wit, and the rational calmness that is his trademark, Sagan takes on a wide variety of topics, among them: alien abductions, astrology, Atlantis, the Bell Curve, channeling, crop circles, demons, electromagnetism, ESP, the face on Mars, fairies, faith healing, magic, miracles, prayer, religion, Roswell, satanic rituals, therapy, and, of course, one of his favorite topics, UFOs and extraterrestrials.
with respect though, it doesn't mean their not real just cos this guy said so
No it doesn't, they just dont exist.
If they did everyone would have seen one, how many people are alive in the world now, billions, I see people every day, they are all around me, look there's one now. So how many humans have died since man first walked the earth, even more billions, most people have never seen a ghost, why? because there is no such thing!
I admit it's unlikely they exist, but I know loads of people who have had unusual, sometimes unexplainable occurrences. Most people don't tell their stories because they often get slammed straight away by ignorant people such as yourself
Wind it in sonny, this is supposed to be mature debate, I don't remember insulting you!
  • Also, people who say there are no ghosts of animals, that's actually very false. There's been sightings of horseman with no head riding a horse. I think we should have a charlton life night stay in pluckley? :)

Well you aint looking so clever cos my point was about your use of the word `ignorant'.

You claim that people who dismiss the existance of ghosts as being ignorant when in fact the ignorant amongst us are those that entertain the idea. I don't believe in Santa Claus, the Lockness Monster or the tooth fairy....am I ignorant about these subjects as well?
  • I'm on the fence when it comes to this, but just want to share with you a theory regarding "ghosts" that I heard a while back.

It was explained that ghosts could be an image/sound imprinted in time when an energy and/or emotion has happened in that particular place, eg a lady reported seeing roman soldiers marching through her house on their knees, when she had an extension built and footings dug, remains of an old roman path was found beneath her house, and it's thought that the soldiers may have been marching into battle, thus imprinted the image on that place in time. People can pick holes in this theory, and no doubt will, but it sounds plausible to me....?

I said the same thing. I think it's because for the most part those that dont believe have never experienced anything close to a supernatural or unexplainable experience that could only logically happened if there was a "ghost" involved. Like a hallucination, both auditory and visually that cannot be explained. That's why i would say its ignorant to say flat out ghosts dont exist. Maybe and its probably not dead people but another scientific phenomenon that we have not come to pinpoint yet, but for the sake of this thread we'll call ghosts. We don't know enough to flat out deny or confirm. Which is why believing either way is ignorant imo.

I said people are ignorant in the sense to dismiss things without knowledge - fits perfectly into the definition. Santa claus/tooth fairy is completely different to ghosts so that comparison doesn't work

Agree, far more evidence for the existence of Santa Claus and the tooth fairy. There are millions of people who have left a note for both and then, without seeing them, money and presents have appeared.

Some people try to explain this away with so called scientific explanations but there must be something in it if so many people have had an encounter with both of them.

    100% agree with this @Kentaddick.

Been there, done it....bricked it! Mind you, I do think that being in the graveyard of the supposedly 'most haunted village in England' after midnight is likely to make even the most sceptical person nervous...me and my mates rather quickly decided that we would prefer to be somewhere else...but did we really *see* anything....I don't think so.

How dare you take the name of his holy noodliness in vain.....heretic!

I'm still a Pastafarian but I reject the dogma of the FSM actually existing : - 0
  • So, you're on the moderate wing of the church of the FSM, then?

Me too, I always thought the dogma about actually having to believe in the religion bit was a bit rigid and non-inclusive. It's a bit like the C of E, isn't it?

Well there is plenty of evidence to suggest that Father Christmas /Saint Nicholas once existed and all we do today is celebrate his life, so you should beleive that the was once a Santa Claus.

Hahaha yeah I do believe there once was a `Santa Claus' character who was the inspiration for what we see now. I just don't believe he's still alive, lives in Lapland, has an uncanny knack of entering homes without being detected and owns a reindeer with a massive red hooter.

Haven't read the whole thread (too long!) but:

    1. the Derek Acorah clip I'm assuming was the Kreed Kafer set-up in bodmin jail. I've been to Bodmin Jail and it is one of the eeriest places I've ever been, scared the bejeebus out of me! BUT Derek is a fraud and was rightly caught out with that.

    2. Most Haunted filmed an episode at Dartford Library, which I worked at for a number of years and experienced some strange episodes, none of which were featured on the show, but loads of other rubbish was.

    3. I have experienced a number of things which I believe to be 'ghosts', including in daylight. But I still remain to be 100% convinced they exist as such.

Would recommend a visit to Bodmin Jail if you're in the area. If you can get there when there's not many people around, it's very quiet and atmospheric. There is also a pub there :-)
  • The old landlords of The Horse & Groom had a pretty good "ghost" captured on their cctv, sitting on the pool table. We had many a lock in in there watching the the clip and noone ever came up with an explauination.
