  • Excellent pass from him for the first too.
  • I remember Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard struggled to break into the England midfield at a young age...

Jonjo can get into the team as his passes can make things happen (two assists and a goal today)... Just needs to be patient and work hard as there is a lot of young talent (including a Defensive Midfielder who isnt that bad back at Charlton) fighting for those Midfield positions

Pretty sure Gerrard was playing regularly for England at 21.
  • Lallana, Barkley, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Wilshere all infront of him in the pecking order, as are Gerrard, Lampard, Carrick and Cleverly, don't think he'll make as many England appearances as many on here hope he will, he has come into the world at a time where central midfielders are in plentiful supply

What a goal. Such great technique to bring the ball down on his chest shifting the ball onto his right foot. The most naturally talented footballer I have seen come through the youth ranks at Charlton. Didn't have the instant impact on a Charlton side for a youngster like Bowyer and others that could be mentioned but nevertheless a player with all the talent to go as far in the game as he wants to.
  • Looking at the side angle, I thought it was a pretty good goal, but keeper could've done better. Seeing it from behind and seeing the way the ball curled in the air changes my opinion to great goal which most keepers would have struggled with..............

People always forget he's only 22. Guy is absolutely quality, just a bit inconsistent. His pass for bonys goal was fantastic as well. Liverpool move came too early for him, but I think he's going to go to a big big club again.

Alan Hansen and Robbie savage trying to brush it under the carpet and say it was guznan's mistake and "rooneys was better" (pahahahaha). What keeper expects the ball to come straight back, 50 yards away and to go into the top corner?!

Rooney's was better. Doesn't mean this one wasn't a fantastic goal.
LOL really?! shelvey's was impossible to stop even if guznan was in the "correct" position. Rooney's he could've saved pretty easily if he was in the "correct" position.
cracking goal, but agree rooneys was better, his was under a bit more pressure and shelveys was not near his own half.

Top player though, should have never gone to Liverpool, should have learnt from Parker, take it one step at a time, but his head was turned and it cost him a couple of years.
Er, Parker was surely not the best example ? Was he not out the door first time a big club came in ? ...which cost him reaching full potential
Made him a bucket load of dough
Good for him, when he has been retired for a decade it may be something he regrets.

Would swap my bank balance for his, although not necessarily his loyalty values!

tbh jonjo stayed a lot longer than he perhaps should for the level of talent he has and the number of times he was playing and the kind of football we were playing under parky. We were also very very skint at that time. Imagine a team with jonjo, jenkinson, solly, poyet, and cousins led by an aging parker...

Haha deffinitely ! Footballers have a short career, for me it's a crime to sacrifice half of that for money... Especially as he would have ended up at a top 4 club anyway at some point

  • Pure tekkers.

    What was the celebration about?

  • To be honest the real showcase of his skill was that pass, that vision and execution would be worth it's weight in gold.

Be interested in Uncles view on his time at Liverpool . I am fairly sure it enhanced him in a way we could never have achieved
  • I'm sure the brief spell at Liverpool did no harm at all, getting out relatively quick was a great decision too.
  • Wouldn't waste your breath with dowman @uncle!
  • A cracking game yesterday, the pass to Bony was sublime and the goal was superb technique. Wish Jonjo had been given the game time that Diego & Jordan are enjoying with us now, but it didn't happen with Parky & the move was a very good one for him. I still think we were short-changed, but we weren't in any financial position to argue.

Always pleased to see him doing well.
  • Poyet and Shelvey together in CM would be unreal
  • Shelvey's was better as it was on the volley
  • liverpool move probably helped him in fairness. whilst we may have wished he stay with us he has become a better player for it and knows the pressure of a big club now from a young age. he probably moved to swansea to try and get the regualr games he needs to go even further. if he wants to be an england regular in the future he has to be a key player for a premier league side. i wouldnt say he is yet. however he could really blossom at swansea and next season he could be even better. unless swansea become top ten regulars he should consider moving in a year or two to enhacne himself again.
  • Shelvey's was better as it was on the volley

no it wasn't, half-volley. Too close to compare imo, both cracking goals.

Would worry that team would be a bit unbalanced, with two right backs and four central midfielders ;-)

Imagine Poyet and Cousins holding behind a roaming Shelvey with Scott Parker on one wing and Rob Lee on the other. Put Jermaine Defoe up top with Richard Rufus and Joe Gomez in defence.

    With Cousins on one wing.

    Riga is that you?
  • Linked with Newcastle today. H'ed be mad to go there.
  • Outstanding goal, really pleased for him as ex-charlton and generally a seemingly humble guy. Currently he's mid-prem quality for me, at the right club, and would do well at an Everton maybe in a year or two after playing every game and continuing to improve.

England call up is a bit of knee jerk reaction to a very special goal but who knows what could happen over the next 2 years.
  • Jonjo's goal is better than rooney's IMO. More deliberate, less of a swinger. It went in top corner as well otherwise Guzan would have got to it

2.5 assists as well if you count the cross for the penno as a half.
  • I would hope jonjo next move would be a top 6 club, I think he is the sort of player wenger needs, although he may not want.

Pardew wants him according to Football Gossip on the BBC.

One hopes he'll have more sense!

EDIT: Already mentioned above by Red Robin so ignore.

Why would anyone in their right mind go to Newcastle whose chairman does not want them to win things because it will cost too much.

Pardew may want him but hopefully he won't reciprocate and let's face it come august Pardew may not be there. Jonjo has had 5 managers since he left us so could do with some stability.
