Following on from the nasty landlords thread and just to upset the youngsters - how much did you pay, if you were lucky enough to be in a position to make your first purchase?

1984, aged 22, bought a 3 bed end of terraced house in Swaisland Road in Dartford for £31,500.

1984 mid-terrace 3 bedroom in Harlow for £16,500 and sold it in 1989 for £66,000.

Those were the days, and it always seemed a struggle to pay the mortgage, no matter how low it seems now!
  • 1 bed flat in 2009 for £141k. Crazy that some of you have recently bought 3 bed houses for less!

WSS yeah your right, when I brought mine I have just earned for the first time in my life an amazing £1,000 per year, certainly was easy, no hardships, no giving up anything, just out enjoying ourselves.

200k 2 bed flat on the Royal Arsenal. 50% shared ownership. 2004. Biggest mistake ever. Shared ownership is a legal minefield when you sell. Full of hidden costs.

£61,250 for a two bedroomed semi in Wayfield Chatham in 1989.What annoyed me most though was when I started on the railway in 1984 they were selling off their housing stock and I was offered numerous 2 and 3 bedroom house in Slade Green for 8-10K and I didnt bother thinking I was too young!!! One of my biggest regrets.

Three bedroom semi bought for £47000 in 1993, aged twenty one. Moved back to my mum's ten months later cos I found out the girl I bought it with couldn't keep her knickers on.

Dansk_Red I had forgotten about the 15% interest rate, but we could claim tax relief on the interest.

Indeed. When selling a house a few years ago the first person in a chain of five had shared ownership and started a 6 month nightmare for all concerned (at no fault of thier own)
