  • don't think hes anywhere near good enough to be starting in this division. Don't think Powell does either to be honest, if Solly goes I think another first choice right back will come in
  • Sadly Henry, I suspect that's exactly what will happen
  • just been looking on some oldham sites to see if they know if they have a sell-on and I saw one post who reckons they'll use the money they get to sign Leon Clarke... talk about every cloud!
  • Ok whose going to turn their internet off for the next 48 hours , and go down to Chislehurst caves to get away from it all then?
  • Trouble is if we do sell Stephens and Solly will we be able to bring in suitable replacements in time?
  • It will be loanees guaranteed which is not ideal.
  • Don't think anyone can reasonably expect Wilson to come in and do what Solly's been doing. However, Powell clearly DOES feel he's a good enough rb for this division or he wouldn't have spent a substantial amount of his pocket money on him and gone on to state that he sees him primarily as a rb. It really won't be Wilson's fault if Soly goes; can we just give the man a chance if he becomes our new rb.
  • Speculation, speculation....lots of chat. Big waste of energy.
If a player receives the offer of a fantastic package from another club, he may choose to accept it.
But, other than family reasons, being hacked off for not being able to play in the first team, or greed, why would a player want to leave Charlton Athletic ?
The honest endeavour and never-say-die spirit at this club is superb and I am very impressed by Chris Powell and his coaching team. The First XI / squad is exciting, vibrant and convincing. It is a joy to watch.
Stay here, lads. You'd be hard pressed to find better....
  • Well said , Jordan :-0

Agreed. How many games of 90 mins have you seen Wilson play ?
  • We have always been a selling club. Each time one of our stars has been sold he has been replaced by someone of lesser ability, rarely successful. I'm thinking of Hinton, Glover, Bailey, Flanagan, Walsh, Parker, Read, etc. We already had Bobby Curtis to replace Billy Bonds (funny enough Solly reminds me of Curtis!) so that was a rare exception and Murphy initially played well after Parker bombed out on us. So don't raise your hopes too high regarding replacements if Solly and Stephens do depart in the next few days. Plalarse will then probably beat us to make us further miserable.

You will be surprised how much is pretty much agreed in advance when it comes to football moves, particularly with loans. It's like a property chain. Not always the case of course, but a lot of moves are lined up weeks / months in advance on the proviso of certain other moves falling into place.

great post, I fear money talks louder though :(

  • I don't understand why nobody has offered us £1m plus for Rhoys Wiggins. Perhaps that is the secret deal to shock us all on Friday.

I think we're holding out for 10 mill for Clarke instead.

Shushhhhh! If Dale is a £1.5m player than Wiggy is worth 4 times that much. He's the finished article pretty mcuh whereas Dale & Solly are still learning their trade IMO.

Spending two nights in Chislehurst Caves worries me more than Solly going.

Noooooooooooo He can't go. Stephens can but Solly will show a lack of ambition by money at the club.

Can you please take Slater, Jiminez, Prothero and SCP down there with you - then they just won't be able to take the calls, send the emails, fax the faxes and count the money.Let them up on Saturday, chopper to Nottingham, Bob's your lobster.
  • The thing is, if Solly and Stephens were to go on Friday and nobody decent comes in to replace them, then Slater will HAVE to make a statement. We will be ridiculously, woefully short and with that much money coming in, they simply MUST have players lined up of a Stephen Quinn level to make it worthwhile an allow us to secure the financial security the Championship would offer.
  • hahaha very good.
  • Sorry - to put my comment into context, Stephens out and nobody in would leave only Hollands and Pritchard as proper Championship CMs. Hence, woefully short.
  • Bexley dan is still availble
