Poor old Lawrie Wilson. Ahead of last season I seem to remember Chris Solly being judged based on a poor performance against Millwall leading to some posters claiming they'd prefer to see Simon bloody Francis at right back. It would be nice if Wilson was given a chance. And a haircut.
It may turn out that Wilson was signed because there was a strong chance Solly would go. Therefore Powell would have a belief that he could play at Championship level. Why do some on here find delight in castigating new players before they've even had a chance to show what they can do. Remember that Solly had a number of doubters in the past...probably the same posters who find it necessary to slate Wilson before he's had a chance.
Powell has said all along that Wilson wasn't a replacement for Solly. All of our players are likely to be worth more money at the end of this season rather than now - the Championship is a good showcase.
Having said that, every player will have a price - you only have to look at Arsenal to see that- it just doesn't seem to me that the interested clubs want to pay it.
I'm honestly a bit either way...I think I would prefer both of them to stay, but if we can get decent money for them, wouldn't be devastated. Possibly bring in Quinn and Lowton on loan, they know each other well after all, I'd be pretty ok with that
The problem is that if deals are done late- other clubs know you are desperate and up their prices - I think we have reached the stage where both WH and AV shout respectfully told to go and do one!
Noooooooooooo He can't go. Stephens can but Solly will show a lack of ambition by the club.
Or the fact we are truely skint , and just selling to cover debts.
Skint and debts explains the move/s.
Not taking credit away from Stephens but if I was a Villa fan I would be furious that a big premiership club were buying 3rd division players.
From Stephens angle, of course he will want to go to prove himself in the premier, but also to get a substantial pay rise. A bit like Elliott getting a five year contract with Newcastle who will be getting splinters in his backside for all this time sitting on the bench.
Not complaining about this as I cannot blame them, I would do the same. It is all about money from both the clubs and players angles.
I have decided that Sky have got this wrong. Not a single Birmingham local rag has a mention of a move for Stephens whilst moves for a Genk striker, a Chesterfield forward and a Boro LB are everywhere. Reckon this was a massive red herring.

When we first signed Dale Stephens one of my mates said he would be crucial to our promotion bid. He was wrong, however it mean Stephens inherited the nickname "Cruic".
Therefore if everyone started using the nickname "Cruic" we could always sing "The cruic, the cruic, the cruic is on fire".

Good work, Large. We can get very blinkered. we should always look for ways to check the authenticity of rumours, and you've done something smart there. May still be right, but lets see

The fact that a family member tweeted about it, hastily deleted the tweets and then denied sending them, or knowing anything about a move suggests there is more to this than pure Sky speculation.

Or family member saw the rumours, tweeted and then talked to dale who said there was nothing in the rumour?

Why deny sending them then? Why not just say "sorry got that wrong" or "was just passing on a rumour I read".
Stinks of being given a bollocking for releasing info he shouldn't have.

But I know there is truth in the rumour. They just haven't offered us enough
