I think Powell is quite happy to use his position to help out people he knows - in the interview on the os when we signed DNG last year I remember getting a real sense of while Powell thought he'd be half useful, he was doing him a favour getting him out of millsmall - DNGs interview also came across quite strongly like that as well - moreso than the usual 'getting a fresh opportunity' stuff. Not saying that it's wrong necessarily, but i wouldn't be surprised if we are just helping him out.
very simply its networking, what goes around comes around. How to win friends and influence people etc. So you've made a friend/contact, and some of it might even rub off on the youth players. Seems like a no brainer to me. Fact is this guy has a lot of experience and is a star of sorts, so why not.
100% spot on and put it better . Kids can watch and learn and we make another friend in football.
He is not going to be Nigel of the Nigels according to Sky. Football Rumours are linking him with Blackburn however.
I paste the Sky report for info.
Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman has denied reports that the club are in talks with free agent Nigel Reo-Coker.
The 28-year-old is without a club since leaving Bolton in the summer and has been linked with the Eagles and Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers. However, Freedman says midfield is not an area they are currently looking to strengthen.
"It's not true and there have been no discussions," he told the Croydon Advertiser. "I've not met him or spoken to him, so it's not true.
"I understand agents put things out, and because I've got respect for Nigel, I won't comment on it, but it's not true and it's a position we don't need to fill right now."
Freedman also ruled any potential loan signings or moves for unattached players, stating he is happy with the current batch of players at his disposal.
"Nobody is training with the club and there is no loan activity," he said. "I would say we're doing OK right now."
Wants to be closer to London, so realistically that's West Ham, QPR or Fulham in the Premier, and if Fulham were interested they'd have gone for him after Diarra got injured.

According to the local caravan owners he is no longer training with us.
Any news?
i don't know if this has been posted either: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/4563464/Nigel-Reo-Coker-slams-agents.html
Not sure if West Ham would be interested. So if he wants to stay in London it'll have to be a championship team
Also now how the A League has started (great first week) the press's here in Melbourne has totally lost interest in Reo Cocker...
