I wish there was a single simplified system to cover it all, ULEZ, congestion, and river crossings. As well as the totally incomprehensible nationwide car parking systems, and for any fines.
If there were such a system I would scrape together something like £50 credit to avoid stress when interacting with those systems.
In the face of all this nerd generated malarkey I wish we could get back to simple and straightforward cash.
Sadiq Khant has done a good job as Mayor, he has been elected three times. I live around the corner from the late Ella Adoo Kissi Debra hard by the South Circular, and the death of the poor girl has led to cleaner air round my way thanks to the action of Khan and his team.
Vladimir Putin keeps getting elected too.
But are you genuinely suggesting Khan has rigged elections in the same way Putin has?
Probably says more about the apathy of voters, that he is still in power and also a slur on the other political parties for not running credible alternatives against him at election time.
In my experience it's safer - I was robbed on the street 5 times between 2006 and 2012 and I've never felt as unsafe since I moved back in 2017
Public transport is better. The SL4, Elizabeth line and night tube make life much easier.
Cycling infrastructure is amazing and I can pretty much get anywhere I need to without cycling alongside cars.
Could be others as well but I generally don't have much to complain about. It's an amazing city to live in.

Not the main topic of conversation I realise, but my son was mugged (age 12) on Shooters Hill, returning home from school and I was mugged (I say mugged, the bloke pulled a machete) for my Vespa on Holloway Road...it's only my wife who's got away with it all so far in our house...0

Silvertown Tunnel cuts delays in first year, says TfL
TfL's 12-month monitoring report said journey times had fallen significantly around the Blackwall Tunnel, with northbound journeys between Sun in the Sands and the tunnel being, on average, 58% quicker during the morning peak and 47% quicker in the evening peak compared with 2024/25.
The report also found:
Morning peak journeys on the route were 126% faster, while southbound journeys between Bow Roundabout and the Blackwall Tunnel were 70% faster
There was a 2% decrease in weekday northbound traffic on the A12
A 23% reduction in over-height vehicle incidents at the Blackwall Tunnel since the new tunnel's opening - before the Silvertown link opened, the Blackwall Tunnel saw 700 closures a year which were often caused by stuck HGVs
Journey times at the Rotherhithe Tunnel had increased, with weekday traffic rising by 3%, but attributed this to issues in key operating systems.
Demand for the Woolwich Ferry also stands above pre-Silvertown Tunnel levels, with operations also affected by technical problems
Average nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) concentrations in the area had fallen by 17% compared with the year prior to the tunnel opening, but this had also been declining over the past five years
Traffic across both east London river crossings has remained below pre-tunnel levels, with no increase in weekday cross-river journeys despite the opening of the Silvertown Tunnel
TfL said more than 11% of all tunnel trips were now made by bus, a 290% increase on levels before the tunnel opened, with more than 10,000 journeys crossing the Thames each day on routes 108, 129 and SL4.

So does that summarise as fewer using it than before it opened and traffic up at Rotherhite and the Ferry BUT those that are using it are enjoying much faster journeys?

They conveniently leave off the fact that the numbers using the two tunnels have, in my estimation anyway, reduced. As others have said, they could have just introduced the toll without spending millions on the Silvertown tunnel and ended up with the same 'improvements', but they're never going to admit to that.0
