Offside should also be daylight between attacker and defender. Overlap = onside
The problem is that’s arguably even more subjective than the current rule.

    How would you measure that?
With the lines, as before. You now compare the rearmost, not the foremost, point of the striker to the foremost point of the defender
  • Switzerland are dogshit

But you’re still going to have the same problem?

If an attackers toe is touching the line or even a hair on his head, it’ll be offside. I think you’d still get the same arguments.
  • Sky 403, final 10 mins of Charlton v Sunderland 2019.

Pace is key this tournament it seems and outside their back line Switzerland have none.

Speed will trouble this Italy side I’m sure of it.
  • This is what good management can get you.

Yea you would get head to ankle with daylight between the 2 players. Then you will get end of defenders toe to attacking players heel, no daylight. Var will be zooming into the players feet to see if they can find some daylight.
  • Mancini has certainly got Italy playing flowing football.

Of course you will, even if you had a 30cm grey area which allows for the really tight calls - Eventually your going to have a player that will be offside by because they'll be 1cm beyond that limit meaning we'll have another tight call, which "wont be good enough"

VAR isnt perfect, and will make mistakes but thats going to happen if it exists or if it does

What people need to realise is that they're looking for perfection which is an impossibility in this game. So should stop trying to alter the rules every five minutes because what thats doing is creating confusion and more error.

Don't tell me the result  !

  • It’s like Italy are in the process of inventing a new game: start at your penalty box and see how many passes to get to the other penalty area: go!
  • Based on the other night Italy are playing like Spain wished they still could.

Loads of great passing but with an end product.
  • Watched Spain the other night who the pundits raved about but they were so ponderous. Italy are getting the ball forward with far more intent and pace.

Yeah but the distinction here is between 'kind of offside' and 'totally offside' so people won't mind as much
  • The FA should get the cheque book out and try and get Conte as England manager. Imagine how he could get our squad playing with the attacking talent that's there
  • Roy Keane has had his annual shave
  • Mancini is so cool..
  • Awful defending.

  • Italy looking really good and a joy to watch. It's so frustrating as this is how we should be attacking games rather than all that sideways, backwards shite

Why Conte? - Its Roberto Mancini in charge of the current Italy team
  • Haha easy mistake ( not )

Spain and England could learn from this..
  • Yes we all could. Joyous to watch, very unlike Italy of old
  • Switzerland simply don’t have a clue what to do here. Italy are playing well but the Swiss really are shit.
  • Italian keeper has a great range of passes

We thought Capello could do the same, but was shocking when it mattered along with his out dated Sergeant Major style approach.

The manager can see the formation isn't working and has done nothing to change it
