He was asked about what the best thing he did with the green jacket since winning and he tried to say about going home and wrapping his adopted baby in it, but he kept breaking down
Although I am no 'Peanuts', taking into account the current order of merit and the past 3 years' Masters records + adding a resurgent Tiger Woods into the mix, my top 10 tips for the Masters this year are;
1. Tiger Woods, 2. Justin Rose, 3. Adam Scott, 4. Lee Westwood 5. Ian Poulter 6. Hunter Mahan 7. Matt Kuchar 8. KJ Coi 9. Keegan Bradley 10. Geoff Ogilvy
For me, betting on golf is much less reliable than on horse racing given the fine margins of accuracy that apply which make or break a score. My biggest success was having a £5 e/w on Cabrera @ 150-1 but that was more a hunch than from following a model.
For the record, I believe Tiger is back to his usual, focussed best and will walk away with this tournament. I have a feeling about Rose and Scott to so that's where my money's going this year; each way bets with the best odds/places is a must. Paddypower doing 6 places but not had a chance to check what else is available out there and how their odds compare.
If you have a punt, good luck all! Once again, please be clear that I am only offering my views rather than outputs from any 'model'. Buyer/Betters beware!
my inside pick = keegan bradley. His high ball flight game suits augusta and he has tons of confidence right now. my outside pick = Scott Piercy. Hes taken a lot of time off lately, but he was playing very very well early in the season.
Update: Following further analysis of the past 3 years and current order of merit, I have reviewed the expected order of finish if history and form are the main factors. On that basis, Phil Mickelson is a key player.
For the record, the top 10 is based on net and under par scoring over the past 3 years at the Masters with the current form and world ranking factored in. Here's the Masters/Current Form top 6:
1. Tiger Woods - current world number 1 and in blistering form. Had a bad 2012 tournament (+5) but is net 21 under par for the 2 previous years, finishing top 4 on both occasions 2. Lee Westwood - 3 year Masters score of 26 under par is the best of anyone else in the tournament this year. He is one of only 4 players who have scored under par in all 3 years. Finished 2nd, 3rd and 11th and is current world number 13. Now living in Florida to focus on winning a Major. Could this be the one? 3. Phil Mickelson - Current world no. 9. Is 1 of only 4 players to score under par over the last 3 years; total -25. Former winner with other placings of joint 3rd but also 27th. Not sure he is in particularly great form but has a proven record at the Masters and should be up there. 4. Adam Scott - World number 7. Is one of only 4 players to be under par in all 3 of the past years; -17. His -17 score over the past 2 years is the best of the current field. Has finished 2nd, 8th and 18th. 5. Ian Poulter - world number 12. Is one of only 4 men to score under par in the last 3 years; -11. Has finished 7th, 10th and 27th. 6. Justin Rose - current world number 3. Net 9 under par over the last 2 years. Previous finishes of 8th and 11th cannot be ignored for an e/w bet.
Others to consider;
7. KJ Choi - had a bad 2012 but scored -8 and -11 in previous years in finishing 8th and 4th respectively. 8. Matt Kuchar - current world number 10. Scored -8 last year, finishing 3rd. Has not scored over par at Augusta. 9. Hunter Mahan - always a danger. Scored -7 in 2010 and also -2 in 2012. 10(a) Rory McIlroy - world number 2 but with a 'best' score of -4 at Augusta which is not great. 10(b) KJ Choi - low scoring in 2011 and 2010 (-8 and -11) suggests a threat to the leaders. A good each way bet.
Hope this save someone some time researching history @ Augusta.
Sorry to interject on a non-golf matter but since this is the "live" betting thread, is anyone else having problems with the Racing Post website (viz being extremely slow and needing to be recovered frequently) since yesterday. I recently did some kind of Java update and I'm trying to work out if my PC has a problem or if it's the RP website. Any comments much appreciated.
Think it is between Woods and Mcllroy. I really hope Woods wins. I am firmly in the camp that he is the greatest sportsman of all time. I feel really let down by one of my other sporting heroes, Lance Armstrong, but my appreciation and respect for Tiger Woods continues to grow. As a young man he liked to have sex with lots of women! Even after he was married. So what? How he chose to live his private life is no concern of mine. The only people who have the right to be disappointed in him and to judge him are his wife, children and other close friends and relatives.
I've done Woods as well as i think he's definitely the man to beat this week. I also like Brandt Snedeker at around 35-1. I know he's had a few injury problems lately but he's got the ideal game for Augusta, probably the best putter out there. I also think Bill Haas is overpriced at 80-1.

Woods now 9/2 (at best) with all the bookies. 6/1 long gone @ William Hill. Paddypower's 6 places makes them the best option for a Woods bet. I've had £5 e/w on Westwood, Mickelson, Poulter & Rose.

I go onto RP regularly at all hours and never have much of a problem, sometimes it's slow on Saturday a.m, I guess due to heavy traffic. I only use the free, and not the members areas ... mostly just use the 'racing cards' option which is a VERY good free facility
