Absolute bollocks ruling. Signed for incorrect score, should be chucked out. End of story.
Absolutely right. Can't see anyway they can justify not disqualifying him. Unfortunately, Woods is just too valuable to everyone - sponsors, TV people, bookies etc.

Agree. Rules are rules. Would have taken real bollocks to chuck him out, not a surprise they didn't though. Seen the interview on the beeb and he clearly states he dropped it a few yards back to get a fuller shot from the last one and definitely didn't drop where he knew he should have.
I've got money on Tiger but think he's been let off very lightly.
with my (little) knowledge of the rules of golf, if your ball goes into awater hazard you are allowed to drop the ball as far back as you like, keeping the point of entry in between you & the pin. I'm not sure if it makes a difference that the ball actually went past the hazard before going back in, or that it was a yellow and not ared hazard, but if he didn't drop it in line then he is in the wrong, signed a wrong card and therefore should be DQ.
Then again............there is a ref with every match & they should have pointed this out at the time.
Clearly he thought he was doing everything within the rules. He gave a full and frank account of his thought processes in the interview after the round. If he was trying to cheat he would not have said he dropped it two yards further back. I am staggered that any one could say he deliberatley tried to cheat. He made a genuine mistake, and any advantage he gained has neen nullified by the penalty of two shots. Until 2 years ago he would have been disqualified and a lot of people would would be moaning, as they have in the past, that disqualification is too draconian a punishment for an innocent inadvertant infringement of the rules. The new rule (33.7/4.5) allows the USGA to waive the disqualification. Considering Montgomery's deliberate attempt to cheat in a sand bunker a few years ago I am interested in hearing his views later. As for Faldo saying he should withdraw? Why? He has been penalised a 2 stroke penalty according to the rules. And he has not also been disqualified because of the revised rule that was implemented in 2011. This rule was not implemented overnight.
Whatever happens the religious right wing racists in the US, who have never come to terms with the fact that a black man has dominated their sport for the last 20 years, and worse, plays golf with Obama, will have a field day.
Even so, given the overreaction to the ruling, it would not suprise me if he decided it is not worth the negative publicity and he withdraws. I hope he doesn't and goes on to win it.
5 still in with a great chance at -3 though Tiger's fall to -1 following the 2 shot penalty is a big personal blow as he was my main bet of £25 e/w. I guess he's still there though but I worry that a 5 shot gap with 2 rounds left may be just too much for him. Much depends on the leaders, especially Day.
Rose, Choi and Westwood need a big round today. If they can end the day within 2 of the leader(s) then it could be a good payday tomorrow.
Mickelson looks toast at +4. Shame the gap is sooooo big. Probably too much for him.
Think woods will shoot a low one today, unless someone breaks from the pack will probably win tomorrow. Think the penalty was harsh............should have kept his mouth shut.

I empathise with some of what you say but I do not think a difference of one shot punishment adequately reflects the seriousness of the schoolboy's and Tiger's respective offences and that is my point.
If Snedeker or some other no-mark yank wins it I'll cry."
You obviously don't know your golf very well. Snedeker is in the world top 10, is the current FedEx champion, and was excellent earlier this year until his injury. I for one hope he goes on to win, although I will admit to some bias having backed E/W him at 35-1

I know my golf very well, thanks. Just because he's an effective player doesn't mean I have to like him. He's boring, annoying and has a face that looks like its been drawn on by children

He has an awful lot to do to win us any money though!

Money talks.

The little kid's punishment for slow play is only marginally less than Tiger's for cheating!
Is Sepp Blatter president of the USPGA or maybe one of the Charlton stewards?

If Tiger wins it covers all my other bets but I really hope that he doesn't now.

Realistically only Scott can sort me out any wedge now. Would be very happy to see Cabrera win though.
