He's really funny live as a stand up, can't believe he's getting slated so much then on another thread the boring, racist & sexist Jim Davidon is apparently a national treasure
It is interesting how wound up some people are getting about a bloke who is just offering an opinion.
Why is this media tart's opinion so worthy of such extensive attention and expensive broadcasting time ? .. The thing is I just do not believe that his professed so called 'opinion' is a truly held belief or philosophy .. I think that he is spouting this stuff to: a) Get attention .. he's succeeding in this, b) to carve out a new career as pop guru/social commentator/political mastermind and: c) to sell a book that was probably written by a ghost writer ...
He's described himself as 'a comedian who looks like Jesus', is is that who he really thinks he is ? .. he's pushing 40 years of age, he needs a new career to last him into an expensive mid life and old age .. Brand is a charlatan and a conman .. trouble is that many seem to be falling for his schtick, including it seems the BBC .. but there we go .. I and many more are commenting on him, paying him undeserved attention .. perhaps he is thereby achieving the end he seeks, the oxygen of publicity
Amazed at some of the comments flying around about the man. I've read his first book and he's had some life - He's a funny bloke too. I doubt I'll ready any more of his stuff because I'm not that interested but seriously, calling someone a nonce? Really?
I heard him on the radio a year or so back talking about his addictions and the problems with how addictions are treated by society. He spoke a lot of sense, unlike the policy makers who once shared a spliff with their chums in oxbridge - he knows about the issue and maybe should have some influence in this area. He's been at the very bottom and has come out of the other side, clean of all drink and drugs I believe and doing very well for himself.
Brand is the kind of bloke my dad hates, probably doesn't really know why but has seen him around the tabloids, sleeping around, taking drugs, having a go on that Katy Perry bird, abused the national treasure Manuel, and look at his hair....
I've not seen him on news night and I wouldn't vote for the man in an election but get a grip people, a lot of jealousy on show.
He knows a bit about drugs from the personal side. If I broke my leg I'd know a bit about getting treatment for a broken leg from the personal side and might have something useful to say about that experience. He has some useful contributions to make to discussions about drug policy, perhaps, but not so much about democracy, politics and public representation, even though he is being given a lot of time on public platforms due to his celebrity status.
People with right wing views in not liking a person with left wing views shocker!
Ha Ha. I am always amazed at this 'wing' thing, be it left or right. As a slightly lapsed ' leftie' I can assure you Mr Brand could not hold a candle to Mr Benn or Mr Foot. Whether you agreed with them or not these were men of honour and integrity who genuinely cared about their fellow man and the society they lived in. Please don't call this moron 'left' or suggest he has socialist ideals. He is a motormouth self publicist who spends most of his time turning to the camera when being interviewed. He has not earnt the right to speak for anyone and if he was to shut the f##k up when being interviewed he would be destroyed. I agree nonce is a bit unfair. His £9m fortune and recent publicity will ensure he is never destitute ( like his dad). His recent campaign trying to support unmarried mothers is only being done because of the amount of them he has created.

I don't like him and I am to the left of Che Guevara. I stopped reading the Guardian because it made too many concessions to wealthy privileged dickheads round about the time it introduced "lifestyle" supplements. I don't think Russell Brand is left wing. Nor is he an original free thinker. He's just a fucking celebrity.
The video is a list of things that he thinks are wrong, many I think are wrong too. What he doesn't have is any idea how to put things right, and when he meets the detail, he will also be supping with the devil. There are a lot of fed up people, but a totalitarian who has swallowed a thesaurus isn't going to put anything right.
Brand thinks he's the only one brave enough to ask the questions he's asking, and he thinks he's harnessing some subconscious national zeitgeist that lies dormant in the 99% of oppressed Britons.
The reality is everyone knows the system is corrupt and that they probably should be doing more about it, but if the alternative is having a skidmark like Brand in charge instead, then most people would rather keep the status quo.
brands regurgitating things that have been said for hundreds of years. The reason the capitalist system still exists is no one's come up with a better one yet. And a recovering drug and sex addict and self titled "comedian" isn't the one to do it. Next thing we know he's going to rewrite plato's Republic and say instead of being ruled by a philosopher, we should be ruled by a comedian.
As Sean Lock said on 8 out of 10 cats. If he's for revolution and raging against capitalism, he should be giving the book away, not selling it ! Another case of do as I say, not as I do.

No worse than Cameron, Milliband, Clegg or Farage, then.
The difference being they are democratically elected, whereas the BBC and Channel 4 decide on our behalf to give this oxygen thief publicity.
And therein lies the proof that whatever your views on him, Brand has a point. Surely no-one in their right mind, in a functional system would have wished for any of these people to govern them.
If nothing else, Brand is a useful agitator, he's stirring things enough to get people talking and thinking and whether you think it's obvious, regurgitated or foolish and whatever the (many) flaws in his approach, his central aims of more equitable wealth distribution and a more representative democracy are hard to argue with.
I think he's like a Paolo Wanchope character, not a gifted player but useful to throw in and shake things up a bit.

I know of a few 'specialist' websites that show some stuff that will definitely make you reassess that statement ;-)
The system is broken and the politicians can't be trusted.
But Russel Brand has only the questions, but no answers.
