How did the liege fella play?

Took Astrit a while to get into the game - looked a bit rusty, but grew into it. Quite strong on the ball, likes a tackle and showed a few flashes of skill. Started 2nd half very strongly. Got a good ovation when subbed. Lots of potential, I think, given game time. Played in Cousins' position today, but probably more a left-footed Stephens.
    Cheers Weegie. Sounds promising.

Even though Thuram-Alien was on the bench, I hear that Alnwick put in a very good performance today.

A few more thoughts on game from me:

First half was pretty dreadful from us - biggest issue was Evina being all over the place, causing rest of defence and Jacko to be worrying more about what he was up to than concentrating on their own game. He did get a knock quite early on, but signs already there that he didn't want to be on the pitch. Was a relief when he was subbed and Lennon filled in really well. Doubt we'll see Evina in first team again...

They had several really good chances - Alnwick was solid when needed, though in first half could have been more commanding in 6 yard box. They actually missed some of their best oppurtunities - a first half free header wide from a few yards out and a couple of well off target shots in space in second.

Whatever we put in the half-time tea worked wonders again...gradually we got more into it - and our crowd got noisier too. Great work by Lawrie to push forward and deliver slide-rule pass for Churchy, who slid ball past keeper into far side of net. Not sure I would call it a drive, but well-placed and enough.

Although they brought on attacking, tricky, long-haired subs, we showed a lot of belief and determination to see it out - even when they threw keeper forward for late corner. Cousins was a calming influence when he came on; Green barely touched the ball. Was great to see interplay down left between Lennon, Cousins and Harriot, though latter took a hefty knock late-on and limped off at end.

Udders team and crowd got more and more frustrated. When they mada a funal rallying call of "Yorkshire, Yorkshire" I was just a bit disappointed that no-one else joined in with my retort of "Pudding, Pudding".

25 years ago we played Kettering in fourth round at Selhurst. A work colleague and Spurs supporter asked if he could come to the match with me. Tonight we are celebrating our silver "first date" anniversary at a lovely inn in Yorkshire. I'd better get off the phone and join the converted Addick for dinner;-)

Well CP said he hopes he's fit for Donny.

Evina was dire. At one point when they had a corner, Alnwick had to shove him towards the corner flag as hudds were taking a short corner and evina was strolling towards goal with his back to the game unaware hudds had taken a quick, short corner. He was away with the fairies for the time he was on the pitch before the injury

I am going to comment on this match as i think it should put a lot of peoples minds at rest. I did actually get a chance to listen to the full 90 (well about 81 actually due to the downtime on player...thats one for the trust to add value by doing some legwork. I have a feeling we just havent got the specialist skills inhouse which is understandable as we dont need a full time employee for this. I would be fairly confident of where the problem lies as there is no good goddam reason for this constant poor service..it is simply the "upload contractor" at fault...we know these because most of spend half the time listening to other teams players)

My first observation...tricky away sides to teams probably losing 5 games at home all season. These games tell you where your general team level is at. I think it was.leeds.away last season which gave me enough evidence that we were easily good enough for too 15 and no chance of relegation.

unless the 4 crucial playing assets are sold before the end of the window...i am 100% certain we will not go down now. Team has shape and balance. I actually think players such as church and wilson are top half.champ players. If churchy.gets 15 this.season we will need to pre-order a special reserve of humble pie for all the naesayers. He is a quality.little footballer..
unfortunately he cant kick the ball that hard as oooaah would say "doesnt possess an adult's shot" (ive grown.to love that expression;)

I would go on to that, as per last season, we are already through.the worst. I cant see us having to rely on sordell and.piggott (no offence joe btw...u will be quality and have game already but being expected to perform and.make up for others' shortcomings its not what u need at the mo)

Son of curbs is be his very nature fairly nonreactive in the short term. He sets his teams up, backs his judgement and does change things just to see if a change is the answer. Oft it is not.

i dont think we got a 9th in us this season until we sig a fuller-type player to really make powelly's low scoring tactics work. Our gameplan will involve a fair few one nils in any given stretch. If we can get that one "beast/monsta" to stick on the top of the tree then the whole team will benefit. Fuller was perfect as if u give to him, it sticks. I bet.m house thats they.type SCP.is.looking.for but you.need great.touch.and.physicality for that role. I dont want to.see us.sign a striker who would just replicate church's role. We need different shapes of playeds for different roles, something that SOC is excellent at assessing.

keep the faith. Even if we lose 3-0 at donny...we prediction is that we have a 0% chance of finishing lower than 16th. Return to form yann and the emergence of woodY (quality er..really surprised me..must have one of highest average match ratings in the squad. Keep the faith. We will never go 4-5 games without picking up a couple of points here and there Tis always the key in the championahip relegation battle..teams are relegated because they go on 0&5 streaks and i can see that happening to donny, yeovil, spanners and The Massive Eeejits.

    COYR

So what are your views on today's game then?

    WSS 1 v CR 0

You have made me feel a right spanner there. Seeing your blunt summation, I.now.realise.there.is very.little.detail.on the actual game. Thanks

    in my defence.

    1. I hardly ever post im detail on this post match read as it should be.mainly.restricted.to people who gone to.the game in your.opinion (i.disagree btw
..im equally interested to listen.to.all and sundry.as.to how that game has made them.feel)

    2. Player issue.is.relecvant as.for those.of us following on player it was hugely.frustrating

    game thoughts
    1. woody is.class.

    2. Pleased with our fairly.even.share.of the game, if not in terms of posession then in terms

Would you Adam n Eve it? Here I am at Dubai airport waiting for my 2.35am flight to London, log in to see how many we lost by having left the match thread at half time - and we've only gone and won! Not sure if I'm drunk or drugged or otherwise in some form of hallucinogenic state, but it's nice, very nice. We'll done CP and the lads.

Ps if this is all a dream I'll be well pissed off.

My internet has just come back on!

I was beavering away enjoying doing the match thread then in the 87th minute no internet, no telly.

On to the wireless, kept waiting by the late finish of Crystal Palace losing at Wigan (tee hee), the sports report music, and about the last thing said on the intro before the results was that 'Charlton are through'.
    Then the results.

It was almost like the old days when you peered into a radio rentals shop window waiting for the football results to appear in flickering black and white, or hung around for eternity for the classified newspapers to be delivered to the corner shop.

Sorry about disappearing like that folks because it seemed like it had everything, rain, a young debutant, goalkeeping heroics, I was enjoying one class afternoon, hope everybody else did too.

    That's not right.

If there's 12 prem teams left of 16 then it's 4/1 chance of a champ team.
You can't play yourself so 1/4 on a prem side

Just finished my curry after getting back from the game. We played poorly in the first half. Hudds could have been four up if their crossing and finishing had matched their approach play. Stephens, Dervite and Alnwick were the stand out players in stemming the tide, Dale was lucky not to get a red for his challenge, but it really showed his commitment to the cause. Evina seems to have lost it. His positional play was all over the place, with Jacko and Alnwick constantly telling him what position he should adopt. Harriot was also poor throughout the game. He was constantly whinging about the passes he received or the challenges coming in. A complete rethink of the left hand flank needs to be made. I would drop them both as there is no understanding between the players and there was a lack of effort from both to support each other. While this was going on Dale, Dervite and Alnwick were putting their bodies on the line for the team. Astrid started slowly, got caught in posession a few times, but as the half progressed he became more influential. Towards the end of the first half and the start of the second he really looked like a decent player. Spraying passes around and making some decent tackles. My only concern is his lack of pace. If he is given space he will look good. Against teams who harry and work hard I think he will be less effectual.

Team was rejuvenated in the second half, passing and thought processes seemed to improve considerably. Huddersfield appeared to slacken off and we probably shaved the second half. Sordell tried throughout the game but was pretty ineffectual. Wilson came more into it and some storming runs from full back led to the goal. We need to find a right back ( assuming Solly is a long term injury) so that Wilson can move further forward. Lennon's contribution showed how lacking in confidence Evina was as he steadied the left flank, even tho he had some difficult times late on against their subs. Jacko was solid, Morro likewise, although Dervite was the more dominant centre half. Churchy was churchy and ran and ran, but looked more effective in the second half, especially his link up play with Wilson.

Overall we rode our luck. On a different day we would have lost this fixture. Positives, as alraedy stated, Dervite Dale and Alnwick. Steady, most of the rest of the team. Major concerns Ceddy and Harriot. On this performance, not good enough.

Yeah good analysis and all that, but you do realise we won because you were wearing your lucky cup socks don't you?

Lucky underpants actually, covered over by thermal underwear. God it was cold and wet in God's Own Country.

Well CP said he hopes he's fit for Donny.
CP is a good bloke, he's hardly gonna say he doesn't want him back, will just knock his confidence.

Can't wait for the cup draw tomorrow.

my post was aimed at DannyAddick, how do you quote someone without bringing up the person they quote as well?

I spend too much time being a grown up and worrying about our squad, owners, prioritising the league and the state of our pitch. My 8 year old has gone to bed still wearing shinpads and his excitement at possibly drawing Arsenal, Liverpool or City is something I envy. The FA Cup, when you win, is still a brilliant tournament. I am going to try and enjoy the weekend and worry about Tuesday on Monday if that makes sense.

lol .. it IS only a game after a££

Thanks for the match reports guys. I take much encouragement that we've won twice in a week without playing all that well. Maybe, just maybe, it's a sign our luck is changing. Lucky or otherwise, it has to be good for confidence and that will hopefully lead to more fluent performances. I'll take another 7 or 8 ugly wins if that keeps us safe though.

On the relative difference between Evina's and Lennon's performances, I wonder how much it helped that Hammill went off injured with Ceddy? Not doubting Ceddy had a poor game, but perhaps we were fortunate Lennon didn't have to mark Hudds best winger when he came on. Not trying to take anything away from Lennon though. Great yo see another academy graduate come through and do well. Maybe a sign of RD's early influence that it was Lennon and not Wood or even Cousins who came on, which I think would have been truer to form of CP?

Pritch didn't even make the matchday squad today, after his run out at Oxford.

He seems to have really lost his way, after being such an effective team player last season.

Evidently the players/staff are staying in Yorkshire until after the Doncaster game .. this is sensible, it keeps the morale buzzing after today's terrific win and saves unnecessary toing and froing along the Motorway network.
I am REALLY looking forward to Tuesday, it will be a serious test of our mettle, mood and resolve ... COME ON YOU ADDICKS !!!!!!
