Have a feeling people will boo him even if he does keep us up. Support Charlton not Powell.

Really hope not, it's not Riga that sacked Powell. I know we can't give him as much space to grow as we gave Powell but lets not treat him like it's all his fault that we are where we are.

Let's support this guy and support the team. We are currently bottom of the Championship largely because of the way we have played. Powell was a fantastic player for the club, is a wonderful human being but the results were bad and it seems that the team and club were slipping into a downward spiral.

RD behaved similarly at Liege, firing a popular manager and installing a relatively unknown replacement and they are now romping the Belgian league.

I feel sorry for Powell but the league table doesn't lie and we now have to stay strong and support the team if we are to have any hope of survival and a new approach needs to be made. The last thing we need is booing at the next home game or hanckering after a manager who left with us propping up the table.

Might we get some interesting players from AC Milan?

Never heard of him, but my starting position is that he is an utterly useless 'see you next tuesday', and it will remain so unless he can persuade me inch by inch moment by moment otherwise.
I will certainly not support him because I am loyal to Charlton, he will have to prove himself every moment of every day otherwise I will be heaping the vitriol on him at every match I attend and at every opportunity.
OK Roland, first challenge starting tomorrow is to win every remaining match this season, and even then you're still the carpetbagger who has foreclosed the farm, and is standing there grinning and chewing your cigar whilst our sad belongings are loaded up on a cart.
Nice to meet you Jose Riga, just want to start off by saying I don't know you, but I hate you.

    Really strange.

Im just as gutted about CP going but this team and its new manager need as much support as possible. Powell has been treated like shite but he's not died ffs. People going way way over the top.

No manager, player, owner, director or tea lady is bigger than the club. And this club is ultimately its supporters.

We might see Wilson in his best position of RM if Nego comes in at RB...

and we as supporters have been overlooked in every sense of the word (Even if you disregard the season tickets and crossbar prices), we have had our players sold, unknowns brought in and forced onto the manager, the manager whom is a charlton legend and only needed some backing not interference, will they listen to our voice....i highly doubt it. Could be goodbye valley next seeing as all RD has said has been lies

In 2011/12, Jose Riga took Standard Liege from runners-up in the Belgian League to fifth place. In the same season, Chris Powell...

Sky Sports News are at the training ground and will have some footage of Riga , who is there , anytime now.
  • This is Liege from last season all over again.

RD takes over, fans ain't that happy.
RD sacks popular manager, fans definitely ain't happy.
Employs manager that no one has heard of, fans riot.
Let's hope our new guy is as good as their new guy has turned out.
  • BBC have Riga will be assisted by Karel Fraeye some head coach at another Belgian club

    Seth - with all due respect mate, and I understand things are still raw;
    1) we're currently heading for relegation
    2) SCP must take some of the blame for this - he is tactically naive
    3) not doing anything and no change happens we get relegated and will 100% lose the likes of Poyet, Cousins etc
    4) I support Charlton Athletic FC not Chris Powell FC, as much as I loved him.
    5) RD took over a clubs whose team that had already been undermined with a lack of investment, new contracts up in the air and who was heading for administration.
    6) key players (with whom were risking relegation with) had been offered new contracts but had turned them down. They were then sold.

You state you support Charlton but will give no backing to the new manager. It beggars belief
  • Firstly, no one has been appointed yet...in fact Chrissy's dismissal is yet to be officially confirmed.

Secondly, whoever gets the job will require a chance to get us out of this hole and deserves a fair crack of the whip for everyone's sake, not least of all the teams. Whether you agree with it or not (and I don't) we have to get behind the team and that includes the new manager.
  • lol! Be rather funny if this turns out to be another Leeds / Brian McDermott case (Especially as when Parky was sacked it was straight on the OS whilst this isnt)

The press need to stop jumping the gun if so

Give the guy a chance I say, it's not his fault RD had done this to us. Powell has gone we can (I will) cry over it for a while but we can't blame the new manager we need to get behind him as do the players if we are to stand any chance at all!
  • As well if Riga is taking over this is his chance to make himself an instant hero if we win on Saturday

I think that this type of coach/manager or whatever he is,is going to take time to get in to the swing of a relegation battle in the Championship. If Powell had to go as we were bottom of league isn't the point for me,if he had to go fair enough but surely replace him with some one who can hit the ground running??
  • Riga's CV and his cerebral approach to football seem similar to that of Les Reed. And look how that turned out!

I'm a Charlton fan and I will always support Charlton rather than a manager but the problem is, is at this monent the club doesn't feel like Charlton.

Summed up exactly ow I feel. Torn at the moment I support Charlton but finding it very hard to see any positives and worry this is just the start of the heart being ripped out of our club.

@HLNinEngeland: On José Riga: nice, well-mannered guy with a philosophy. Once gave some training sessions at Real Madrid - he &Mourinho have common friends.
