I'm a Charlton fan and I will always support Charlton rather than a manager but the problem is, is at this monent the club doesn't feel like Charlton.
This is exactly the problem. Our club is being diluted. We have an owner who dictates to our manager who must play. It's crazy.
Hamer is now also one of Duchatelet's players, yet Thuram has to play ahead of him? Why? What is Ducahetlet's personal involvement with Thuram that makes him more important than Hamer, seeing as they are both his players? There is something serioulsy awry with all of this.
All I care about is Charlton, managers come and go, but we will always be there come what may. No boycotts from me see more lows than highs but Red Red Robin will be played when my time is up.
Never heard of him, but my starting position is that he is an utterly useless 'see you next tuesday', and it will remain so unless he can persuade me inch by inch moment by moment otherwise. I will certainly not support him because I am loyal to Charlton, he will have to prove himself every moment of every day otherwise I will be heaping the vitriol on him at every match I attend and at every opportunity. OK Roland, first challenge starting tomorrow is to win every remaining match this season, and even then you're still the carpetbagger who has foreclosed the farm, and is standing there grinning and chewing your cigar whilst our sad belongings are loaded up on a cart. Nice to meet you Jose Riga, just want to start off by saying I don't know you, but I hate you.
I do hope you are being ironic. Whether I agree with Powell going and Riga replacing him is immaterial. I am a CHARLTON supporter and will carry on supporting CHARLTON no matter who the Manager is. Always have always will.
Are we supporting CHARLTON at the moment?
Hard to find the right words, but where do you think the spiritual resources of our fans will rest when we realise we actually support Standard Liege? This is hurting bad, and time may be a great healer. I know my stance towards Riga is a shoot the messenger one to some, and it is indeed harsh, and I indeed feel a sense of hatred, I admit that but it is so very raw. I would liken it to a loving father who adores his daughter, and she has just brought the new boyfriend home. You have to prove yourself Riga, in spades, because in my view you have the hardest of hard acts to follow.
Genuinely shocked by a couple of the vitriolic posts in this thread, like others I hope the posters' were just being ironic, stalwart club support is one thing, but directed at someone who has no previous connection with the club and has been hired to perform a role is hardly fair or supportive and certainly does not 'paint' a very good picture of Charlton fans per se….
Good Luck Jose, for the sake of the club and team, I genuinely hope you succeed where others have not, onwards and hopefully upwards, 3 games in hand, get us above the relegation zone, stabilise the squad and get them functioning as a team as a whole and playing for one another regardless who is on the pitch and I will settle for this at the end of the season

Really strange.
Im just as gutted about CP going but this team and its new manager need as much support as possible. Powell has been treated like shite but he's not died ffs. People going way way over the top.
No manager, player, owner, director or tea lady is bigger than the club. And this club is ultimately its supporters.
Well if it is all so positive can we expect to beat Huddersfield and Millwall and stay up? I would definitely support Charlton avoiding relegation and we can then draw breath. However I don't feel inclined to help them, the regime has made their decisions, now they had better deliver, I am not going to encourage THEM, they'd better encourage ME.
I wish Parkinson was given the support that Powell got. I will be there Wednesday night supporting CHARLTON as always. I hope fellow Charlton fans give the new owner a chance.
I hope that not because I want to "prove" that Chris was useless or that sacking Chris was the right decision because right now I think his sacking is a mistake.
I hope that Riga is a success because that means MY club is a success. And it is MY club and YOUR club not Chris Powell's or Jose Riga's or Roland Duchatelet's club.
I want the best for Charlton and that means hoping that Jose can do the business for us.
On paper his managerial record is less than impressive but he has already been sacked on by Roland so at least he has that in common with Chris Powell.
The comparison with the "unknown" Wenger is laughable. Wenger had won the French league and cup and lost a Cup Winners Cup final and a Champions league semi-final as a manager at Monaco prior to joining Arsenal.
My stated view has been for many weeks that in the long term (3 or 4 seasons) Roland will be good for the club but that in the meantime we will have a very rough ride. Everything that has happened today only confirms that view in my mind.
It will take a while before "Jose Riga's Red and White Army" sounds right though.
To be honest I would want this bloke in charge rather than another Englishman.
The philosophy is changing and it needs to continue that way. I'm sad Powell's gone but end of the day that's football, we might see a new Charlton that's different.
I will be there Wednesday. I will support the team but it will take a while to get used to the idea that Chris isn't going to be jumping out of the tunnel ever again. My concern is that this man knows nothing about The Championship ( or league one) . What do you think his knowledge of Huddersfield and Millwall are? Having said that i'm fickle like most fans. 6 points and we will soon be singing his name. Sadly i can't see it though.
He's a stooge. He's being brought in because he'll do as Roland says. Whether or not that works on the pitch remains to be seen but it's not a good place to start.
I will support whoever is in charge. All I want is Charlton to be successful. Gutted for Powell I really am, but the decision has been made. We've got to give the new guy a chance.

I understand people are angry and upset that Powell has gone, because he has done a good job. However, I would hope people do not vote with their feet and not renew their season ticket, as that will impact on our future 'success' as stated above. We must get behind this guy because he is now our manager and therefore he is part of 'Charlton'.
All I ask is we give him a chance, and get behind the team tomorrow night. Who knows, perhaps some fresh eyes will bring something different to the table.
I don't get it though. Why did RD get rid of him at Liege if he rates him?
The way I see it it's the same feeder principle for staff as it is for players with Roland. He buys Reza, but he's not quite good enough so he goes to Charlton. Same with Thuram, and seemingly the same with Riga; likes the man as a manager, not getting the results for Standard so gets carted over to the feeder side. We apparently develop managers as well as players now.
Also, I think a certaina mount of it is the same as the reason Pellegrini insists on playing Demichelis. He might keep cocking up and costing them points but he's the embodiment of Pelligrini's views and philosophy on the pitch and Pelligrini sees getting that stamped on the team as more important than what Demichelis will cost them. Riga is Roland's man.
