Having worked for the QPR game I thought I'd probably missed out on seeing any drama like that at The Valley this year. Was absolutely certain as anything we were heading for another 0-0 from about 60 minutes in - just couldn't see a goal in teh game.
Whether it was a tactically masterstroke or a forced change, bringing on Obika made a hugely positive difference. Green has had mixed reviews but he does bring something to the side noone else we have does, and so I'd always have him in the squad in some capacity.
Still buzzing from that goal. Punch the air? I K.O'd the ****.
It was clear from the outset that we were trying to pass the ball more but Bournemouth dominated the first half, even though they were limited to long distance efforts. The Harriott substitution firmly looked tactical to me - I hope so because I really want my team's manager to be that decisive when required.
We were excellent in the second half and the previously 'neat and tidy' Bournemouth side were put firmly on the back foot and created nothing of note. I'm not sure I understand why some on here are saying we never looked like scoring from open play - we had two outstanding chances in a single move (when Church was put through and the ball then rebounded to Jackson on the penalty spot).
We'd have taken a third 0-0 obviously as the clock ticked down but I felt we deserved it for our positive approach, emphasised by playing three strikers from the hour mark onwards, even though he could easily have 'taken a point' and boxed the game up. Having said that I was a little surprised Sordell didn't get a chance to use his pace through the middle perhaps by replacing Church with Pritchard, but was instead used on the right flank.
Massive win as we needed to make our games in hand count. Bournemouth are a good side and for the first 35 mins we could not get near them. For me Obika changed the game in our favour bringing a physical presence which we have lacked since yann was sold. Another clean sheet which will give the back 5 a lot of confidence. We are making small positive steps under Jose who is impressing me game by game with his substitutions/general tactics, the way he is conducting himself on the touchline and his manner off the pitch (interviews).Still need to bring in a right midfielder on loan. The team spirit looks good and that is going to be a key factor in us staying up. Onwards and upwards.
As many have already said, absolutely buzzing this morning still. Wow I had forgotten the winning feeling. Nothing new to add to all the posts but just thought Cousins and Poyet were so mature in the second half. They were controlling, breaking up play and attacking. Well done to the team. Anyone else sit for ages on the A2 getting home? Typically they do road works on a Charlton night! Outrage!
Shows how we can see things differently. First half it was the most long ball I've seen for a while with Dervite and Morrison endlessly hoofing the ball up field and our passes rarely finding their men. We gave the ball back to Bournemouth at every opportunity, had little possession and no shots on or off. With about 35 mins gone I looked at the stats on my phone and it was 0 shots on or off and 35-65% possession in Bournemouth's favour. Having said that apart from those few early long range shots they offered nothing incisive either.
I thought the way we were set up was very odd with Jacko playing just behind Church and seemingly being asked to do the most running - his pace was exposed time and again when there were balls he could have closed down with an extra yard on him.
The change of Harriot, enforced or otherwise, was the tipping point as Jacko moved out onto the wing and we went a more traditional 4-4-2 and things clicked a lot better.
Someone near me said during the first half the performance reminded them of a Les Reed style performance and while harsh I could see what they meant.
Second half we were much improved but we were in no shape or form excellent. A few players (Poyet, Dervite, Morrison, Jacko, Obika) were really good in both effort and quality but the rest of the team seemed to be running at 50% and overall it felt very tepid and it looked like yet again we could play all night and not score.
Positives to me (other than the performances of teh players mentioned above) were Riga's acknowledgement of the tactical error for the first 30 minutes and changing it around when Obika came on, the positive substitutions, the way the fans stuck with the team and the way the players and head coach in particular reacted at the final whistle.
This is why I love football. 90 minutes of relatively insipid dirge but a few minutes of sheer ecstasy at the end and the slow detour and roadwork heavy journey back to Brighton was done with a massive smile on my face.
Great result last night. Nothing quite like a last minute winner, my last game was QPR due to holiday (last minute too). Still amazes me that people give up an entire evening for football and leave early missing the end of the game.
On the note of Yan. I think we can put this to bed now. He spent the entire first half whispering into players ears that were taking throws into our box (he was warming up). He was clearly telling them where to drop the ball. Fully understand its his new team and he quite clearly wanted to win.
Thought Green had a poor game, that really must be his last shot at this league. He has had so many opportunities now. Morrow was quality and JJ, Poyet and Cousins all up there.
Three clean sheets, 5 points. Happy with Jose's start
It looks to me that Cousins and Poyet have begun to work out how to play together. In the second half they were taking turns in going forward, they both had shots on goal. If they can develop this more then it is possible that we can become more creative in midfield without bringing another midfielder in.
I assume Ajdarevic and Reza were rested in a squad rotation to cope with two games each week for the rest of the season. I was impressed by Bournemouth's quick and neat approach play, let down by wayward finishing. Remarkably, we have conceded fewer goals this season than Derby, who are third.
Three clean sheets and three games undefeated - I detect a marginal improvement in our quality of play under Riga, with a higher tempo and more attacking purpose; Powell might have made a late substitution to shore up the midfield for a draw. But I don't approve of Harriott and Pritchard being back in the squad.
When Danny Green lined up that free-kick in the second half, I said to my mate: "Top left-hand corner". We collapsed in laughter as the ball sailed miles over the bar.
Had to log on this morning to check I wasn't dreaming it, but we actually won last night! Un bloody believable, over the moon. I don't know why Powell was sacked or why yann was sold, I still don't know what RD's intentions are. But he made a good decision it appears appointing RIGA he seems to care and players and staff seem to like him, he has won over most fans with just 3 games and for the first time since Yann left I'm feeling confident. Onwards and upwards COYA!!
Optimism on a charlton forum? How dare you madam. I strongly urge to to take a good hard look at yourself and come back when you've found something to moan about......................
Posting without reading previous comments. Excellent result from a fairly mundane performance. Two things that surprised and pleased me:
Starting team composed entirely of 'Powell' men. Riga making a statement that he's his own man and is not going to play RD's guys if they're not up to it?
Substitutions/tactical changes. How many times have we bemoaned the late and/or defensive substitutions and lack of a Plan B under Powell? Well Riga does not seem to have these issues and is not afraid to change either formation or personnel if things aren't working.
Great result but felt Riga's initial team selection was dreadful and didn't have a goal in it. Injuries to Reza and AA?However his bringing Obika on changed the game massively and from then onwards we looked really good. Tactical master stroke or good fortune only time will tell. COYR
Here I am coming up with the hoariest of CL cliches, but I'm posting without reading every post on the thread. I read the first few pages but, man alive, I've got to get on with my work.
Anyway, very positive, tactical, early substitution for Jose, bringing on Obika for Harriot, which, and I may be shot down here, I couldn't imagine Powell making that change so early. Harriot was having a mare; even when he did the hard work by getting in a promising attacking position in the first half, he attempted to see how many more defenders he could beat before getting a cross in, and with crushing inevitability, lost possession and Bournemouth were on the break. Obika changed the pattern of play as soon as he came on.
And Danny Green. Jeez, he's a thoroughly decent bloke, one of the nicest in the team, but, man alive, he had a nightmare, typified by that schoolboy-standard free-kick. His positioning was woeful as well. Jackson takes over the free-kick duties with a belter, forcing the keeper into a fingertip save, thus conceding the corner that led to our goal.
Poyet, absolute class again. His movement, positioning, awareness of the whereabout of his team-mates all over the pitch, and his almost supernatural prediction of the ebb and flow of play was a joy to watch.
I can't see the point in playing two out and out wide men in Harriot and Green with Church as a lone striker? We looked far more threatening with the front 3 later in the game. I thought Church was as bad as Harriot and Green. Never thought I'd say this but I'd start Obika with Sordell rather than Church at present.
Felt Church ran the channels well... If we're gonna play one Striker up top who will chase the ball / hold it up and bring others into play I feel it has to be Church as the lone Striker because he's not a selfish player and will put that shift in...
Certainly should of scored but Camp made a good save (watching it back on SSN) and had to reach back to stop it going over him (sadly the shot did still lack a bit of pace and height)
And I also thought we were heading for another 0-0. That scrum in the Bournemouth area with the ball ping-ponging all over the shop. And then, when Jackson elected to hook that shot into the net, and it going desperately wide. I thought that was our chance. That was it. Which makes the late, late winner all the sweeter. A bullet of a header from Dervite, too.

We got stuck too! After last week's awful journey home due to roadworks we decided to come onto the A2 at Falconwood and joined the queue there. Took ages to get past the roadworks. Such awful chaos for such a small section of work! Crazy to do this on a match night - they ought to realise how much traffic goes down the A2 when we have a match.
After dropping my dad off at South Darenth, we didn't get home until after midnight. Luckily my husband and I both have today off work, so didn't have to get up early this morning.
When I saw that Church and Green were starting, I almost choked on my burger, about-turned and headed back for the car.
After the first 40 mins I wished I had.
We were static, slow, predictable and devoid of any imagination going forward while Bournemouth were a well organised good footballing team who looked a class above us.
Only good news was that Yann was on the bench.
Obika made a huge difference and ur play much improved second half but let's face it, we still would not have scored a goal from open play if we had played all night with ten strikers.
Is our team coached not to shoot even when inside the six yard box?
Nearly wet myself with joy (and surprise) on 92 minutes but think Henry Irving had the match preview spot on.
The 4-2-3-1 formation is fine and the 4-2 looks invincible. Its the 3-1 that's the problem.
Well Millwall, Yeovil and Barnsley should start getting nervous (and hopefully their performances will be effected)... Should those three teams continue failing to win and we do continue our form (we've only lost one league game in six now) including take advantage of our other three games in hand then we'll fly above Doncaster meaning the three mentioned will be in serious trouble as Millwall are already five adrift of the rest

My thinking is that JR, with the limited training ground time he's had, has made sure that the team is hard to beat first. That 4-2 of the formation looks steady (and CP had a big part in that) but given time i think the 3-1 might become a bit more creative. It has too. Id be willing to bet if someone made a stat of 'through balls' this season, we would be in the bottom 5 in the Football League.

Wet dream scenario. Plenty of twist and turns to come yet.
i was very concerned about green starting but pete F said in the commentary he had spoken to the new assistant coach and that the game plan was to expose how slow ian harte was, try and get past him with pace and keep playing balls into the box and they thought green was best suited to playing that role. even though it didnt come off that well nice to see that even though riga might not know the other teams, him and dyer/matthews have been communicating and sharing ideas
Absolutely fantastic result. Had to work today so didn't stay up last night. Came on here first thing in the morning, didn't see any particularly negative thread titles when scrolling down and then, 'JOSE RIGAS RED ARMY'!!! I knew we had won!!! I simply couldn't stop smiling on my way to work afterwards.
Reading through the posts on here, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Still very gutted about SCP and may not fully get over it for a long time. But this group of players have exceeded my expectations. I really didn't think they would be up for it after what had happened within the club after FA Cup exit. Some tough games coming up but I feel much more positive than the last couple of weeks. COYR!!!
No Yann and Matt Ritchie in the Bournemouth starting X1 was a good sign, but they were no mugs last night and had the better in the first half. Good to see that we raised it in the 2nd stanza, with Obika looking a threat. A vital 3 points and another 92nd minute winner.
Plenty to work on, and as an Old manager said "Come on, i want to see plenty of shots"
"I think 0-0 would probably have been a fair result on balance but Charlton got a chance and took it so fair play to them, I suppose. They certainly celebrated it like they'd won the league, that beardy keeper ran over and had a big group hug with the fans!"
Interesting what was said about Kermogant: 'Why was he playing so deep, helping out the defence?,' or some such. Now I spoke about this after the game; my opinion is it was because he didn't want to score against us. For instance, that Bournemouth free-kick on the edge of the box. When he was at Charlton, that would been the perfect opportunity for him to lash one in. But while he hovered over the ball for a moment, he stepped back to allow a team-mate to take it. He just didn't want to score against us. And I kind of admire that.
