not sure about the team when i herd it orthe way we set up. CXhurch was basically isolated and on his own. Much better when Obica came on, but towards end of the game Obika nad Sordell where to far away from Church.
Poyet had another good game.
some consiracy theories riped up. JR aint a yes man for RD where was RDs players in this squad ? Tugay had gone back ? really ????
As many have already said, absolutely buzzing this morning still. Wow I had forgotten the winning feeling. Nothing new to add to all the posts but just thought Cousins and Poyet were so mature in the second half. They were controlling, breaking up play and attacking. Well done to the team. Anyone else sit for ages on the A2 getting home? Typically they do road works on a Charlton night! Outrage!
We got stuck too! After last week's awful journey home due to roadworks we decided to come onto the A2 at Falconwood and joined the queue there. Took ages to get past the roadworks. Such awful chaos for such a small section of work! Crazy to do this on a match night - they ought to realise how much traffic goes down the A2 when we have a match.
After dropping my dad off at South Darenth, we didn't get home until after midnight. Luckily my husband and I both have today off work, so didn't have to get up early this morning.
Yes, it was 11.30 when we dropped our friends in Hawley and left for Eynsford. Cleary, Charlton fans don't matter! I have my day off today as well so very grateful for the lie-in but husband and son not so lucky. Still, the result kept me buzzing.
Interesting what was said about Kermogant: 'Why was he playing so deep, helping out the defence?,' or some such. Now I spoke about this after the game; my opinion is it was because he didn't want to score against us. For instance, that Bournemouth free-kick on the edge of the box. When he was at Charlton, that would been the perfect opportunity for him to lash one in. But while he hovered over the ball for a moment, he stepped back to allow a team-mate to take it. He just didn't want to score against us. And I kind of admire that.
Simon Church must have lots of friends at the other clubs in the Championship, as he doesn't want to score against any of the other teams :-)
On a serious note, the free kick was ideally suited for a left footer, hence Ian Harte (I think) taking it, and he's a specialist at dead balls. We had the opposite problem for our free kick at the end, which was more suited for a right footer, JJ got it on target though, even if it was a easy save, which led to the corner and the goal :-)
Lets not get too carried away with the result it was a great 3 ponts, if they turned their superiority into goals in the first 20 mins we would have easily lost.
Couldnt believe the starting 11 last night when someone told me i thought it was a joke.
Next 4 games are key Burnley i feel will roll over us saturday best we can get out this is a point, so some of the fools jibing at Millwall on this thread may look foolish.
Apparently the Bournemouth team coach is still at the Valley as they're still waiting for Fraser to get on board. He only seems to manage 2 or 3 steps before falling over................

Joined the A2 at Falconwood at 10pm - went past the roadworks at 10.40pm !!
I heard the Highways Agency specifically scheduled the works on a Charlton game night - but then again, I heard that from the same person who said that CP was sacked because he wouldn't play any of RD's players & that Tudgay had gone back to Forest..........
Thought it was a decent match with two sides trying to consistently keep it down and play a passing game. A few players are coming into real form, most notably in defence and midfield and I hope this eventually rubs off on the offensive unit. I thought the players and management teams' reaction at the end summed it up nicely. Pumped and I suspect wishing the next game was today. Nice tactics and brave decisions JR (1st half sub) and well played team!
Sheer euphoria at the end and it really does blot out all the pain of Sheffield. The positives are mainly about riga. I hope his emotional detachment from the players continues and is never worried about upsetting whoever he substitutes before half time. This is a man who is confident and self contained and does not seem overly influenced by others. These are early days but something of what dervite said about the dressing room (before riga) being down (which I interpret as being a lack of confidence) and how since his arrival he (Riga) has a calming influence on the players bodes well for the future. Powell seems to have worn his heart on his sleeve a little and we love him for that but that can transfer itself onto the players in both a good and a bad way. Riga stays healthily objective . This is the big positive about the present and the future. The other positives are that JJ should get player of the season for the influence he has had on the team and the continued talismanic influence he has on the outcome of games. Also the leaders within the team shone through; Jackson, Morrison and Hamer (isn't really a leader but could be in the future). I think the other big positive is they all played for each other as a team. The only question marks for me are concerning church and why riga keeps him on the pitch (does he have an effect on the opposition by chasing everything? (quite possibly). Could be a seminal moment in our season. I hope to look back at this win and remember how it all started to come good thereafter.

The crowd need to be patient as the side were obviously under instructions 1st half not to bother pressing in their half. They need to save their legs.
Bournemouth tried to play out of the defensive third in short passing combinations. If you press the player in possession, and there is no back up, they play into the space behind, create the spare player and play through you. So we sat back on the halfway line and invited them to break us down. They didn't have the ability on the ball to do it, became frustrated, lost possession and ended the game on the back-foot. That called for patience and discipline. Great tactic, carried out very well by the players.
The home crowd is always looking for a more positive approach, which is what Eddie Howe is hoping for, to allow his players to exploit the spaces left by opponents running around chasing the ball, urged on by the home crowd. It didn't happen and they had no plan B.

I think Riga has the advantage in that he is if not unpopular, not overly popular either - maybe unfair, but that's football fans for you. Tactics like you mention won't please the fans who expect our players to pass around and between opponents like a training exercise, or try and blitzkrieg the opposition from the first minute to the ninety-whateverth. BUT it does seem to be working, so more credit Jose from me. If he was replacing anyone other than Powell he would be much higher acclaimed I am sure.
Agreed, Tutt. As home fans we want to see our players pressure and harry. All that does is create further space, and in a few seconds they are in the final third. Luckily we kept to the game plan and it eventually became a much more even contest.

It has been a long, hard and emotionally draining season, and we've got to go through the mill for 2 games a week until the end of the season. Let us enjoy only the 7th win of the season. I'm sure people aren't getting carried away, and yes the first 20 minutes were sluggish, but talk of getting rolled over by Burnley, jibes at Millwall coming back to bite us etc, isn't needed.
Aside from Church, the team played well, were committed and as the game went on were positive. I actually think you could be underestimating how big a win it could be. It was one of our games in hand. The team will be buoyed by the win, rather than what looked like an odds on draw and confidence is slowly creeping back in. Burnley are a very good team, but no team in this division should be feared. We go into with more than a good chance.
So who else apart from me called Yann a c$$t for rolling around when he hit the advertising hoarding then sprint back on the pitch.
When he did it for us, it was cunning gamesmanship. Do it for anyone else and he's a dirty cheating bastard. FACT (as the cool kids apparently like to say.)
Yes what a great day I've had at work giving it large to all the millwall I have to work with! But I was surprissed they offered nothing back? they all admitted they think They are down! What a turn around Thanks Charlton that's why I support you
Wellwickman There was no point in chasing the game from the outset as the lads would not be 100% after 3 games in 9 days. Not ideal to put JJ in the hole as that role ideally suited to a mobile striker. Riga, however knew that if he got at least one good half out of the team provided we reached the interval all square then we had a good chance of nicking it. All those screaming for Church & JJ to chase down lost causes in the first half missed the point completely. Riga knew Howe's cherries were a tidy bunch so determined to squeeze them in our own half, force them to play the intricate stuff. Cherries had a few chances but nothing of great note on 45. You all saw what occurred 2nd half. Reds only team in it & but for some poor decision making & bad finishing we should have led long before the end.
It wasn't a great game albeit there was plenty of effort and an attempt to play football from both teams. The change to 4-2-3-1 seems to have made the defensive duties a lot clearer to everyone but also seems to leave Church more isolated than ever. You can't have everything though and no-one can fault the effort of the squad to grind out results. I like the fact that we appear to be ready to use the whole squad in an attempt to keep players fresh and if we can get Solly & Cort back for even the last half dozen games that would be great.
Burnley on Saturday will be a really hard game and we will need to be at our very best to get anything from it, but we've at least shown that teams will have to be at their best to break us down. Dervite and Poyet are two players in form at the moment and it will interesting to see if they can keep that going against a top side. We need to treat it like a cup match against top opposition, otherwise they'll pick us off. It should be a good match.
