Cycle to work scheme guys. Did it last year after being fed up with Southeastern and don't regret it at all. May change my mind once flattened by a HGV but so far so good.

Yeah I am the same, best change I've made even though cycling through Lewisham and New Cross can be a bit hairy at times.
It would take me 3hours 15 to cycle the 34 miles from chatham to Westminster. I'll give that a miss...
You're just not cycling fast enough
    Ohh shut it you! ;)
Seriously though, if someone in say Medway was keen on cycling, and averaged 17mph, that is only 2 hours to get into town, which is probably about half the time it takes a Southeastern train to make it into London from there!

Good on mate. You cycle up the M2 then A2 through the blackwall tunnelling then s circular then across central London. Do it for one week and see if you are alive. I dare you!

Got the 8.55 from Hither Green to Charing Cross, now sat 100 yards outside hither green station, no info as usual, absolute farcking disgrace.

I got the 9.07 from New Eltham. Rolls in 20 minutes late and still haven't even made it to Hither Green. Have been sat it the same place for the last 5 minutes whilst the driver whispers something that nobody can hear.

Still, have been watching two squirrels chase each other round a tree, which is nice. Glad to see someone having fun. Hope he gets his nuts in.
Squirrel watch update: I'm still in the same place 10 minutes later but the squirrels have gone.

    #disappointed
If yours is stopping at Lewisham I'd definitely get off there and take dlr the rest of the way. Only just passed through new cross, just ground to a halt again.

Too late. "Fast" from Hither Green to London Bridge.

Ouch. I'm not too far from London bridge now, so don't be too disheartened, you could well be off that train in a mere 2 our 3 hours.

New level of disgrace this, would love to bump into South Eastern's CEO this morning - I'd like to skin him and then use his skin as a novelty onesie.
  • I have to travel to Carlisle today for work, something tells me my train from Mottingham to London is going to take longer then the one North!

Not sure when you were planning on leaving mate but it has just taken me 2 hours to do the 20 minute journey from New Eltham to London Bridge, so you'd best get cracking if you want to get up there today!

According to Google it's 10 miles. You could very nearly have walked it quicker than Southeastern got you there!

  • Park at North Greenwich - JLE to Westminster.
  • What a thread!

Been getting the DLR this week. Great service, please stick to your swet trains and don't ruin it for us.
  • Strangely enough Southeastern and Southern feel no need to offer reduced prices when they offer a reduced service. A bit like Katrien not reducing ticket prices for League 1. Perhaps they can all attend a conference on morality in business to atone for their sins.
  • think I was on the same train as @Off_it .. finally trundled into Lee about 9.30.... after I'd been waiting for 40 mins... then proceeded to go nowhere for hours (no squirrels getting their nuts in)... took 2 hours 20 mins to get to work....

It's the same at Christmas, when they run near enough a Sunday service for the whole 2 weeks.

Never get a reduction to reflect the service. just an increase from the new year. happy new year mugs.
  • If you'd normally go to the valley on the train up the Dartford - Erith - Plumstead route and don't fancy s0"th€@st€rn's risible "rail replacement bus service" on 17/9 for the wimbledon game; you can catch any train from Dartford to Lewisham and use the DLR to Greenwich at no additional cost to catch trains to Charlton. You won't find that information on network rail's or s0"th€@st€rn's journey planning pages but it is buried away in the engineering works and crossrail project stuff. Even if the connections don't work brilliantly it'll still be quicker and less unpleasant than the bus fiasco.

Takes me an hour and 25 to cycle 32 miles from Leyland to Rochdale. Pedal faster. :smirk:
  • Cancellations to services between Lewisham and London Charing Cross
Due to earlier signalling problems between Lewisham and London Charing Cross:
    Impact
Train services running to and from these stations are returning to normal but some services may still be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until 20:00 31/08.
    Customer Advice
Due to earlier signalling problems in the London area many services are affected by delays and some disruption should be expected. Passengers are advised to check their journeys before travelling.

Southeastern apologise for any disruption to your journey today.

Their turn of phrase is really starting to piss me off - ".....any disruption to your journey", "we apologise for any convenience this may cause".

How about something which goes a little bit further towards acknowledging how totally appalling their service has been today?! Something like:

"We are so very sorry for the huge inconvenience that you have endured as a result of the complete breakdown in our service today". Ideally this would then be followed by "Our Chief Executive will be appearing at Cannon Street and Charing Cross throughout the course of next week to apologise personally and hand out £50 notes to our unfortunate victims. Please feel free to stop by and sh!t on his face".
He'd like to but he'd be delayed by whichever train service he chose to get.

  • Got out of work early again. Not sure why I bothered as I'm unlikely to make my 7pm appointment!
  • Yay, made it to Waterloo. Having left Charing Cross at just gone half past 5. Driver just said he can see 2 trains ahead of him and all lights are at red.

You would have thought they'd have worked out the timetable and capabilities of London Bridge before opening part of it up? Surely it needs more platforms and rails in and out?! I thought they'd added to it? What's the point when you get a bottle neck squeezing 8 lanes down to 3?! Idiots.
  • Left at 4, got DLR to Lewisham, Lewisham to Hither Green, Hither Green to Sidcup. All very straight forward and with no partner in crime @DaveMehmet in sight, it's disappointingly meant I've got to spend more time than expected with the wife

    I'll be about tomorrow mate.
  • I got dlr as well today. Very simple and nice walk through park.
  • Gave up on Charing Cross tonight. Got a 38 bus from behind my office in Holborn, stopped off in Shaftesbury avenue for a pint, wandered to Piccadilly. Got another 38 to Victoria. Had another pint in the weather spoons and now on the (slightly delayed) 1839 to dartford. Think I made the right choice. Working from home the next two days. Can't face it again.

Think I was on your train too. Utter fucking shower. Southeastern, Network Rail and anyone else involved in running this so-called 'service' should all be shot!
