I think it's great to have you and other Belgian fans here.

It's clear that RD is a complex man, and we don't really understand him. Maybe we make assumptions about him which misjudge his real intentions or beliefs.

But why do you think he has decided not to give Riga the job when he clearly wanted it, and when he had clearly met the objectives RD set him? We know that RD does not actually like football. So, OK he just judges his managers/coaches on results. Fair enough. But Riga got the results. How then would RD actually come to the conclusion that Peeters is going to be better at the job than Riga? I mean, what criteria do you think RD is using?

  • Riga on SSN now.
  • If Peeters isn't a yes man, I give him 6 months

i don't have a clue - JR and RD have a history togehther and know each other - Bob Peeters doesn't have any connection with RD as far as i know and i know Bob Peeters quite well since i saw him play on the pitch since he was 15 years old.

All i know is that Riga is considered a really good coach here in belgium and Bob Peeters is equally regarded and respected here. RD needs to pay his current team waasland Beveren a fee because peeters still has a contract there. If he wants to pay a fee to have Bob peeters at charlton, it must be that RD is really convinced Peeters is the right man for the job at hand for some reason.

And the thing is - RD doesn't judge managers on results. He kicked out mircea Rednic at standard and the fans revolted. Rdenic did a good jib at standard getting them into european football when they were having a really bad season. He sacked rednic, and brought in some unknown Israeli to standard Liege (guy Luzon) Fans revolted and even were invading his office. But Luzon did great and fan protest disappeared with the good results from Luzon. If Luzon faile dto deliver i don't know what would have happened lmao.

Now he is doing the same at charlton, kicking out Jose Riga despite his results were satisfactory and replacing him with probably Bob Peeters. There is no logic there, only RD knows why he is doing it.

I just followed this forums from when Riga took over here as a manager, and i just registered because i think there was lots of bollocks about Bob Peeters here. That's all. People here in belgium are already used to RD making alot of weird decisions, not only in football but also in business and politics. And almost everytime, his decisions proved to be good in hindsight.

He doesn't care about the controversy they cause, but he is also no one that doesn't care. If he bought charlton, it is to be succsful with it. He strives for succes. just in a weird way. He doesn't need the football to earn money or make money or to be succesful. For some reason he got into football and he does not do like all the other football millionaires, so that's why he looks weird. He wants to create succes, not just buy succes imho.
  • Riga on SSN now.

    What did he say ?

There's a thread on it now. Conducted a 5 minute phone interview with the presenter.

  • I just heard that the deal has fallen through and the other option is the Belgium u21 manger
  • Can't say i'm overwhelmed by the likely appointment of Peeters but then the same could have been said of Riga and he did a great job steering us clear of trouble. The way things are however he's probably no better then even money to actually be in charge when the season starts. I hope RD knows what he's doing because I for one am far from convinced.

Was posted on a Belgium website I will find website now for you

Seems pretty reliable and creditable , peeters current club do not want to loose him & we couldn't agree compensation

Well that will make quite a few people happy , especially with the millwall connection . Under 21 manager would make sense for us.
  • It's not 100 % guys I'm just posting what I have read ..

Tomorrow morning we could see Bob flying into se7 for as far as we know but there's no smoke without fire

so far nothing new on the belgian wesites.
stories on reliable belgian media platforms as of now:
    * JR is suprised and wans't informed by RD ans saiys RD still hasn't given him a reason why he cannot stay at charlton
    * Bob peeters is named as replacement for Riga
    * Waasland Beveren (current club of Peeters) is not amused and unhappy
    * 27 minutes ago KV mechelen reported that Patrick Van Houdt will leave the club and will (probably) move to charlton as an assistant coach

  • Johan Walem is by all accounts RD's other option.
  • I've heard the name Johan Walem from two different people today. Think this will run on a bit.

Absolutely baffled by all of these decisions and nervous is an understatement. To be fair to Rolly though his decisions regarding management here and at Leige, despite the popularity, have been successful. God only knows what's going to happen next.
  • Curiouser and curiouser.
@byl what's your view on Patrick Van Houdt ?

What 'bollocks' about Bob Peeters was posted here.

We don't know him. The only posts that I have seen relate to available online stats about his record as a manager....?

  • Johan Walem: the Gareth Southgate of Belgium.

Sky sports is classed as a "reliable" English media source ..yet they spoke to someone that had no connection with riga ?

So reliable media doesn't mean anything and I won't believe anything until it's on the OS
  • Anyone hear Andy Hughes talking on Talksport ?
  • If the deal really has fallen through hopefully Roland will give Riga a call, apology and a big new contract

    Amen to that!

Didn't hear it. What did he say?

If indeed it is Bob Peeters who gets the job, I hope RD at least issues a press release to explain what it is about this guy that makes him a better choice than JR (who by all accounts was very keen to stay with us). I would be very interested to read that, because right now I can see not the slightest shred of evidence.

there is no reason that makes Bob Peeters a better choice than Jose Riga, other than RD thinks it is the best thing to do. RD is weird guy , but i guess amll of you know already.

i know what you guys kinda go through at the moment. I support Lierse SK which has a long tradition in belgian football, but went nearly bankrupt in 2008. We were only saved from disappearing as a football club because some Egyptian businessman bought our clubs at the time and we became the laughing stock of all other belgian football fans for that over the next few years . Our egyptian guy is even weirder than RD lmao.

But he got us back in the pro league after 3 long seasons in 2nd tier, all bills were paid again and we became finacially stable again. That is the basis of everything if you want to survive as a professional football club.

6 years ago, he started immediately with a youth academy, bringing in 12 year old kids to that, which this years delivered the first youngsters from that academy being in the 1st team (those guys are now 17-18 years old), and the future looks bright for us again now for the first time in 10 years.

For me i have a team i can still support, at the stadium i always went to and now hopefully again with decent homegrown players instead of the 3-rd and 4rd grade cheap african and east-european players i had to look at for 10 years.

So keep on supporting your local team, be vigilant, but also don't be paranoid. A football club is not about who is in charge or the current crop of players, but it is about the fans who are there every week, year in year out :)

....not only Africans....you had that Australian forward who used to do the kangaroo hops after he'd scored!

Went to Lierse v Bruges about 12 years ago on a Good Friday night. Superb supporters club next to the ground and we had a monster session before the game! SK Lierse 1 FC Bruges 0. Gert Verheyen was on the wing for Bruges.
  • @diegopoyet7: Thanks to Jose Riga for everything he did for the club and helped us massively to stay in the league. Sad to see him go
