I definitely think we should get behind "big Bob"! Belgium are for whatever reason are now becoming a force in world football. Look at the players in the national team, I know we haven't got any of them BUT is this a result of years of coaching?, good coaches? a well run association? We now have an ex international player, young coach/manager who is very well respected and highly rated in Belgium! I am quite excited with this appointment! Come on lads and lasses let's all get behind BP and whatever players we 'end up with'!!!

Good luck to Bob Peeters and his assistant head coach. I hope that he is supported with retaiining and bringing in good quality players; and that his time is a success for Charlton and for him personally. The quality of the squad he has to work with will be crucial. That is true with whoever is the head coach. Anyway good luck to Bob Peeters. I hope Charlton Athletic supporters get to enjoy some success and enjoyable football for the next season.
Just told my 2 boys about the new head coach (they're 10 and 13) and after the big WHO and a quick google I can hear then chanting 'you're just a fat Karl Pilkington..'
Told my 8 year old that the fella who used to play for m..... (The name is not allowed to be said in our household) is gonna be our new manager/head coach....and being the offspring of someone as positive as myself his first words were "is he rubbish, why didn't we keep Riga" I said we'll have to wait and see
Also bored of all the comments about "get behind the manager". Seeing and pointing out there are issues at the club and our new manager is a complete unknown replacing Riga who had done an unbelivable job does not mean you dont support the team.
Riga's remit was to keep us up...he did that as well as getting the team playing and uniting the club again following Powells sacking yet still didnt get the job, dyer (and huges to a lesser extent) have said there are issues and all I can see on bobs record is keeping a team up in the belgium league.
Big problems at the club as far as I can see but that dosent mean I wont be at the first game of the season behind both the team and the manager.

I couldn't agree more
I think that most sensible people will be behind Peeters as they realise that it's not his fault that a very popular Charlton legend was sacked and then his replacement also disposed of as soon as he did the job he was brought in to do. The Millwall thing is a red herring as we had loads of historic connections so I genuinely can't see that as a reason for the average fan not to get behind him either.
You raise some good points relating to the Belgium national team and all of us will be besides ourselves if Peeters unearths the next Hazard of course but there's no doubt he starts at a massive disadvantage purely because he is going to be perceived as a manager when his role is that of coach.
BP might be happy to work on that understanding but in English football that set up is still developing and having the figurehead of our club working with players that may not have been of his choosing is still pretty alien to us.

I don’t want to nit-pick but it seems unlikely - even in fantasy - that Peeters might “unearth….the next Hazard” if you accept that “his role is that of coach…..working with players that may not have been of his choosing”…….
I love how the official club statement made absolutely no mention of the fact he used to play for Millwall.
Bob Peeters has been appointed as Head Coach of Charlton Athletic, the club announced on Tuesday evening. The former Belgium international takes over from José Riga, who left the club following the expiration of his short-term deal which lasted until the end of the 2013/14 season. Peeters has previously taken charge of Cercle Bruuge and KAA Gent and arrives at The Valley after ensuring Waasland-Beveren’s survival in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League. During his playing career Peeters made 13 appearances for Belgium and scored four goals, including a hat-trick against San Marino in February 2001. The former striker also played for Lierse, Roda JC Kerkrade and Vitesse Arnhem in Holland and Racing Club Genk in Belgium. Peeters takes control of the club following Riga’s brief spell in charge in SE7.

Bob Peeters started as Gent's youth team coach. He then did a great job at Cercle Brugge – good with young players.
On my 2011-12 season roundup, I wrote "Honorary mention to Bob Peeters who seemed to love every minute at Cercle Brugge.
Eidur Gudjohnsen moved to Cercle Brugge - around 2012 -and one reason was said to be that he was impressed by Peeters.
Peeters lost key players in following year and was sacked, then moving to Gent, shortly after, he never got going and was sacked again.
At Waasland-Beveren he saved them from relegation. He’s incredibly enthusiastic; I think the fans will love him and he'll love Charlton.
