I definitely think we should get behind "big Bob"! Belgium are for whatever reason are now becoming a force in world football. Look at the players in the national team, I know we haven't got any of them BUT is this a result of years of coaching?, good coaches? a well run association? We now have an ex international player, young coach/manager who is very well respected and highly rated in Belgium! I am quite excited with this appointment! Come on lads and lasses let's all get behind BP and whatever players we 'end up with'!!!
COYR....
I couldn't agree more
I think that most sensible people will be behind Peeters as they realise that it's not his fault that a very popular Charlton legend was sacked and then his replacement also disposed of as soon as he did the job he was brought in to do. The Millwall thing is a red herring as we had loads of historic connections so I genuinely can't see that as a reason for the average fan not to get behind him either.
You raise some good points relating to the Belgium national team and all of us will be besides ourselves if Peeters unearths the next Hazard of course but there's no doubt he starts at a massive disadvantage purely because he is going to be perceived as a manager when his role is that of coach.
BP might be happy to work on that understanding but in English football that set up is still developing and having the figurehead of our club working with players that may not have been of his choosing is still pretty alien to us.
I don’t want to nit-pick but it seems unlikely - even in fantasy - that Peeters might “unearth….the next Hazard” if you accept that “his role is that of coach…..working with players that may not have been of his choosing”…….
Fair point I suppose, but maybe we are going to have to get used to our teams public face (and jeez what a face...) being part of a larger background operation and therefore less influential in players coming in than has been the case previously? It doesn't mean that he has no say and I seriously hope this is not the case but regardless he must surely have to have a large input into the development of those players that are at the club already or brought in by the larger 'team'. Whoever that turns out to be.
I can't see that he's there purely to pick a match day squad alone but the days of Curbs, Pardew, Powell having more or less autonomy seem over in the short term. Whatever way you look at it that's not Peeter's fault and it's incumbent on us to give the bloke a fair chance.
Some kind of statement from Roland, Bob, Katrien, anyone, would be nice... but assume that's coming at some point in the next few days.
I don't blame them for not doing an open press conference because after the Dyer revelations it would turn into a sideshow.
Maybe they're waiting until they've signed our ten new players before unveiling everyone at once. Only a month till the end of June and everyone's signed up apparently.
Did Spurs have a press conference for Pochettino? (genuine question as i don't recall seeing one).
Perhaps it's not worth it in the close season. I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities for the press to speak to him during pre-season
No but I'd imagine they will but they also get the media attention , but what spurs did do is have the chairman say why they picked him had pochettino say something, along with how long he's contract is for and all he's backroom staff ect .
To me someone isn't doing there job properly. Not saying it's the media team but it just seems quite unprofessional .
Speaking on his appointment, Mauricio Pochettino said: "This is a Club with tremendous history and prestige and I am honoured to have been given this opportunity to be its Head Coach. "There is an abundance of top-class talent at the Club and I am looking forward to starting work with the squad. "Tottenham Hotspur has a huge following across the world and I have great admiration for the passion the fans show for this team. We are determined to give the supporters the kind of attacking football and success that we are all looking to achieve."
And will be doing a full press conference either before or after a pre season tour of North America. Which I can't remember.
2010-2011: Cercle Bruges 9th in the Belgian Pro League, reached final of play off 2 2011-2012: Cercle Bruges 7th in the Belgian Pro League, winner of play off 2 2012-2013: Cercle Bruges. The most important players all left the club. Got fired after a bad season start in October.
2012-2013: Gent. Gent was a disaster at the time that he arrived. The team played more attractive football under Bob Peeters and he implemented some youngsters in it. Though the results stayed the same as before and after only 2 months he got fired already. Gent had 4 coaches in 2 seasons.
2013-2014: Waasland-Beveren. At the time he arrived in November, everybody was sure that Bergen and Waasland-Beveren would be the 2 teams to relegate in the Belgian Pro League. With Bob Peeters as the new coach the team managed to finish at the 14th place and didn't have to play play off 3. They were saved directly.
Overall the only bad thing he has done were wrong choices in his career. He had to leave Cercle Bruges in the summer of 2012 and shouldn't have signed for Gent. He is a very hard worker that gets good results for his teams and he brings positive football. If Duchatelet wanted a doll to do what he wants, he wouldn't have chosen for Bob Peeters. The fact that he chooses for Riga and Peeters makes me think that he takes this club seriously and wants to go to the PL with it.

Could be us soon. We've three in less than six months now.
Moaning aside…I've heard mixed reviews about his style of football. Some have said long-ball and others have said he likes his teams to play good, attractive football. Time will tell but with an early appointment he has a summer to get the types of player in he wants…unless RD says otherwise.
Just received my weekly email from the Club - thought it might have contained a brief interview, or at least a quote, from our new Head Coach, or some kind of statement from Roly or Kat. No such luck - just a repeat of the website statement, omitting the fact he played for Millwall again.
There ought to be a press conference for every incoming manager, to give them an early opportunity to say some old waffly-bollix about how they've always admired the club from a far. There also needs to be a proper photo shoot supplying pictures like this, so that those of us that like to make up montages have plenty to work with when the new guy becomes one of Charlton's most successful managers:
I haven't posted in a while. First of all I want to welcome Bob and wish him good luck. I find it amazing that without the guy having even taken as much as a training session, some people have written him off already. This club has been built on stability ever since we returned to the Valley in 92, the events since the takeover by TJ & KC have been unusual for such a stable club. Again, with RD's takeover, more uncertainty, more conjecture, more feeling of unease. Alex Dyer's comments were not good, and I am not naive to think RD is a hard task master and one that dictates what he wants and when. The stuff about being on Powell's back about the network players not playing is not good, but he was probably of the opinion they were. He may have genuinely been of the opinion, I've just bought this club, we're in a perilous position, I want these signings to work, why are they not playing? I genuinely feel he wants the investment to pay off. There was no relationship with CP. That takes time to build, time we didn't have with the position we were in. Riga came in, took AD's advice on board and stuck with largely the same team CP played, yet managed to get something more out of them. I feel that because RD trusts Riga more, we didn't hear any more rumblings about 'the network' players. I could be massively wrong, and this is why Riga is no longer with us, but I don't feel RD would cut his nose to spite his face as they say.
Moving forward, Peeters may have given more of a stronger argument as to why he was better suited to the job long term, we just don't know. My first choice would have been Riga, but I will 100% get behind Peeters. As for the players gone/leaving. I still believe this all goes back to FFP. RD is trying to balance this club on a commercial basis as well as footballing one. I am positive he knows the squad is depleted and needs reinforcements, and I think they will be on their way. We have our managerial situation sorted before the end of May. Peeters has all summer to put his plan in place his plans. I understand the resentment and fear coming from many fans about RD. If we are still with the squad we have come July, then I will start to worry, but until then I think it is too early to pull him up on what I see has been a good first 5 months (saving the club, new pitch, avoiding relegation etc).

I like the idea that we won't know he played for Millwall because they don't tell us. Also that most of us would care that he did. It's hardly like Millwall appointing Billy Bonds, is it?
Google is to start building its own self-driving cars. The car will have a stop-go button but no controls, steering wheel or pedals.
Pictures of the Google vehicle show it looks like a city car with a "friendly" face, designed to make it seem non-threatening and help people accept self-driving technology.
2 bob (excuse the pun) I hope he proves me wrong but given his record I'm not that optimistic! I think we've not had long enough to make a real decision regarding RD - let's be honest if he didn't give a toss about the club he wouldn't bother relaying a premier league quality pitch or a new training complex at sparrows Lane would he!?
I find it amazing that without the guy having even taken as much as a training session, some people have written him off already.
Who has written him off ? And if there are any, how does that compare percentage wise to the rest that haven't ?
Apologies, not intending to dig you out personally fella, but I don't remember reading anyone on here 'writing him off'. Just seems an unecessary divisive thing to highlight
Wonder / concern on how / why he got the job, but not writing him off.

Lol the guy posting 1 minute before you calling him 2 bob doesn't really help.

Not necessarily on here - I don't tend to disseminate between here and what I hear from people that don't use this site. I haven't read through all previous posts so forgive me if the general consensus is as you mention above one of wonder/concern etc.......

Terrible shame not to have a press conference, considering Bob is reputedly such a funny man. We could all do with a bit of a laugh...
Have we done a Bob (no) Hope gag yet?
I am expecting some more news about it today though .
I really hope he turns out to be a success - good luck Bob.

Will this be Bob Peeters CAFC club car.
Although I am not comfortable with the way that Charlton is being run, this isn't Bob's fault, and he sounds like a promising coach.
It's going to be an interesting and unpredictable start to next season. Bring it on!
