Shame his record and reputation are likely to have been badly tarnished through no fault of his own. I still think he is an excellent manager, but would be surprised if he returns quickly to the English game, if ever. I was looking forward to having the chance to show my appreciation to him in the home fixture in December, but that will no longer happen.
He is not faultless, it would not have taken a lot of research to find out that Blackpool is a basket case. I feel sorry for Jose, supported him from the day he walked into Sparrows Lane, but he should never have entertained this job.
We don't know how or why he was persuaded to take the job. None of us has seen a transcript of his job interview. Jose is a decent honest man, I suspect he took what was presented to him at face value. Crooks are very good liars.
Sorry if everyone in English football knew Blackpool was a basket case so should Riga have, just needed to do some due diligence. Maybe he did do the due diligence and decided he could make it work, whatever it was poor decision making on his part.
And no I do not know what he was told but due diligence is about finding out the truth about the job not what you are told and much of what is In The public domain would say "Barge pole, touch with not"
Yeah, but in a sense those barge-pole jobs are like having a free bet, if you can turn the club around you're a hero; if you can't, you've lost nothing because no-one seriously thought you had a chance anyway. Jose can walk away from this now and no-one will think any the worse of him precisely because Blackpool is a basket-case.
[edit: I do think there's only a limited amour of times you can do that though]

He might have been told that about us, by some, before he saved us from relegation.
Their Chairman is a complete dick. Feel for their fans.
He is running a course of action where relegation becomes inevitable and they lose £3m of Tv income - what's the end game? If they didn't like running the club they should have sold or given it away instead of running it into the ground.
It puzzles me when managers go to basket case clubs, and then express surprise and dismal when it turns out to be complete and utter disaster zone. I remember our friend Michael Appleton going to Pompey and expressing shock when he left at how bad it was there, when anyone could have told him that beforehand!
If he stays at Burton he could be a league 1 manager next season at a club where he is popular with and go about things the right way, or Blackpool who will be a joke club in league 1
He says Riga is unprofessional, how about offering the job to someone when Riga is still in charge thats unprofessional Its like he is saying we are trying to find someone else but if we cant Riga can stay

Different situation though he came to us as an interim manager with a specific brief and a high possibility of failure due to the circumstances when he came in.

Also, whatever his opinion or knowledge of Charlton before taking the job, he would've been very familiar with Roland and his ways of working.

And why leave a part of the country you're settled in? There are other clubs within driving distance that he could go for, when he decides to move on
It is a shame for Riga that we played Blackpool at Bloomfield road so late last season, it stands as a warning about hasty decisions all round based on a brief encounter.
Feel for him even more after seeing FLS tonight, seems like the Blackpool fans are behind him and rightly so. It really isn't his fault whats gone on at Blackpool and the fans seem to have really warmed to him and reinforce my view that he is generally a nice guy.
Crazy how things can change so quickly in football isn't it?
The Blackpool fans were great in the FLS. One of them was so passionate when he was shaking Riga's hand I thought he was trying to fight him.
In his interview he said "I have never in my 25 years coaching had one person claim I am unprofessional" real touch of class how he'd handled the whole thing. Regardless he will come up smelling of roses from all this. Seems a lovely guy and it would be great for him to do well somewhere.
Trouble is as one person comments on that link... When Chairmen argue with their Managers its never the latter that win and the Manager usually gets sacked where in this case the Manager has won
In any profession if you went to an owner and told them how to run their Business (Even if your right) would you expect to keep your job as these owners hate being proved wrong and dont like being made a fool of... I reckon this saga is far from over and Oyston will look for one small reason to try and sack him now without upsetting the fans, it may even get to the point where he wont even care about doing that
Everyone saying the blackpool fans are great, but given their hatred towards the chairman, it's no real shock as to who they're backing. Reminds me of the Tan/Malkay scenario last season at Cardiff....................
