I would have taken Baines but can now see Cole would have been better in this competition. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. The real problem is that Cahill and Jagielka are probably our best two centre backs!
Martinez would be ideal. He probably wouldn't take it.
Way too sensible to take us on.
We aren't out of it yet (although we will be of course) but for now I hope they stick with Hodgson. He was the right choice two years ago and no one else, English or otherwise, seems an obvious candidate in the long term at the moment. We have some bright young managers/coaches coming through like Dyche, Howe, Neville, Powell ;-) etc but they are unlikely to get their chance at a big club for a while yet, let alone manage at international level. RH is doing a good job during what is very much a transitional phase with the resources he's got and we were always going to be stronger going into Euro 2016 than this World Cup imo so I see no reason to change now.
What's the point of changing managers? Pretty much everyone wanted us to go with a youthful team. We did which means we lost experience and that showed...that and the fact we don't have a world class striker....... But that's obviously all the managers fault and he's tactically inept. Keep him with the same kids for another 4 years and judge him then.
Roy has definitely improved this team since he took over. Look at the way he has bedded in the likes of Sterling, Sturridge and Barkley - all players we can be excited about.
Think we were just dealt a very tough draw with the group, and its a shame that our early exit probably doesn't reflect on our performances.
England have had English managers, followed by foreign managers, and back to an Englishman (just not the media darling, wheeler dealer it could have been)
It's no longer the managers fault. I'm not even sure it's the players fault. It's the style, the culture, the makeup of English football. But how do you change that?
England will always have a hard working side with a good bit of skill in it. A side that will always qualify for the finals. Just think they lack something to get past qtrs. not sure what it is, they just lack it....
Roy has taken a lot of risks and it may not appear to have worked now.....but if we win a World Cup (yes you can LOL at that) in the next decade, we will look at what he has done for the future of this country with his bold decisions to take the likes of Shaw and Barkley to this World Cup.
I watched an interview with Gary Neville, where he stated that they have a plan to make England a more attacking and dynamic side by 2016. Yeah, we have seen glimpses of that already at this World Cup.
If we add a couple of defenders and a younger, fresher midfield, I believe we can become a very strong side.
I will judge him after the Euros in 2016 (if we get there), I believe we will just get stronger and stronger under him...I really do.
Don't think getting rid of Roy is the answer. Seems to me that he's trying to build something (why he chose Shaw over Cole for example) and should be allowed to do so. Don't think there any many coaches better than Roy that are suitable for the task in hand.
In my opinion we need to stop looking for a quick fix option every time we face disappointment and instead look to the bigger picture. We were never going to win Brazil 2014 but several of this team could form the basis of challengers for Euro 2016 and beyond. For me, Roy and the team around him including GNev are our best shot at making that happen.
Would be a huge step backwards! Agree we need more depth in defence... but these boys will be better off from the experience.. at the euros and next world cup we will have hopefully continued to produce more young talent! Particularly a good holding midfielder as Gerrard is only a converted box to box midfielder who's legs have gone! Who knows maybe a certain Diego or Jordan will fill that role.. but this tournament has been progress.. We have moved away from the old boring 442 to a much better more fluid 4-2-3-1! Need 2 cb a rb holding midfielder and extra striker! The front 3 of midfield look quite good and we have plenty of depth there! Think Henderson has been a good find this tournament! His endless energy and commitment are what's needed in a 4-2-3-1.
Roy should go if we don't beat Costa Rica. Not impressed with his management. Seems to have picked the kids to be popular and avoid criticism if we do badly. We haven't looked organised defensively all tournament. Thats his job. His tactics baffle me. Went gung ho against the Italians yet took a more careful approach against Uruguay.
Needs to go. Team never looks that cohesive or balanced if you ask me. No idea who should replace though, no one English seems to be at the level required.
Keep him until after the Euros. No obvious replacement right now. Most were happy with the style of play after the Italy game. Need replacements for Gerrard, Johnson and Jagielka, not the manager.
Comments
Roys only mistake was Gerrard and every manager before him made the same mistake
If Gerrard was worth lacing sir Beckhams boots he will resign as captain allowing the mgr to drop him
Hodgson is not the problem.
I felt we had good team spirit. We were in each game. We just don't have quality in defence and a quality finisher.
Hodgson picked the squad that most would have picked (from those available).
We just don't have a Soares or a Balatelli.
Wouldn't have affected the outcome of the game anyway though.
Hart, Cahill, Barkley, Rooney and Sturridge should be our spine.
Forget Jagielka and Henderson. Decent pros but not good enough.
Attacking wise we then have Ox, Walcott, Lallana, Sterling, Welbeck as options.
It is defensively we struggle. Wilshere should maybe replace Henderson.

Sometimes Paulie , i think you say silly things just to get Lol points.
We aren't clever enough and never have been.
