It didn't help Igor getting injured too as they had a good partnership, Bob playing him up top on his own or with Harriott wasn't George's game.

I'm not sure Georges game was championship level football
It was occasionally. The problem was it was too occasional. His performance against Cardiff in that 1-1 was absolutely fantastic. It was Yann-esque; excellent flick-ons, disguised balls through and quick releases for Johann and Igor. How he didn't score in that game I'll never know. The other thing that stands out from that game (apart from Johann winning a tackle) is Igor's last minute miss. It's a thousand times worse than George's against Millwall but I bet most people have to strain to remember it. I wonder if you swapped those misses and had Igor fluff his lines against Millwall whether the perception of that players would change. Probably not.

Thought his performance against Derby in the 3-2 win was his best performance...

Was unplayable in the First Half, and maybe should have had a hat-trick, remember him somehow going into a cul-de-sac of Derby players with the ball yet somehow came out the other side with the ball still
  • George had the 'look' of a footballer, something moneyball signing strategists shouldn't give a shit about. His physique, touch and sometimes elegance on the ball is all great to watch at times. But the fact he rarely scored, struggled in a Belgian league where it seems tough in the top quarter but equally where there's team to be scored against seems illogical that he'll cope in the champ. Sure his physical attributes might have done something, but it would have to be allied to an endeavour and physicality that clearly is not his game.

  • He's doing nothing and presumably being paid by RD so he must be a candidate for manager?
  • He was absolute quality against Derby. Thought we were go on to do special things after that night. :-(
  • Let us hope he does well on loan, as the agreement is for them to have the option to buy in the summer
  • He was absolute quality against Derby. Thought we were go on to do special things after that night. :-(

So did I. Thought the same after Hull this season. Shows how wrong you can be.

It's that hope, and the subsequent disappointment, that is the killer.

Hull was a brilliant display, as was Derby last year. Nice football and powerful in attack against teams you expect to be fighting for top 6 places.
  • I wasn't keen. Banging the ball anywhere near him was pointless, a bit like with Lisbie in the Prem. Half hearted challenging.
  • A George Tucudean sighting!

He's now playing for Târgu Mureş in the Romanian top flight (rumoured on here, but I don't remember it being confirmed).

He scored the winning goal for them on Saturday. The win put them into the Championship round (top 6) which starts this weekend.

    Decent finish:

It's a great finish. What little I saw of him, I thought he looked decent. I was at the Millwall match when he had a chance to win it late on, and even though live it looked like he'd missed a sitter, on the replays it was clear that it wasn't an easy chance and the goalkeeper and defender put him off. Don't think he ever recovered from that, and it seemed that Peeters didn't rate him after that.

For me, George represents one of the big problems of our transfer policy. Not so much that he was brought in, there i definitely something there in my opinion, but because he was given 3-4 months to adjust to a new league and culture, then shipped off when he didn't fit straight away. If you are going to bring in these rough diamonds from abroad, you have to be patient with them, and also ensure you have the squad so that you can ease them in. He's a big center forward, and I'm sure he's used to being physical and getting his way. This isn't the case in the Championship, and he needed time to adjust his game.

    This is a good point.
  • I thought he was an average player, which puts him head and shoulders above some of the dross populating our squad at the moment. Would put him in ahead of Mak or Reza.
  • I liked him, there was definately something there and I'd have him ahead of Mak and Reza any day of the week and as said above he wasn't really given a chance to settle in to both the country and the club. Sums up our transfer 'policy' to a tee.
  • He could be our main striker next year in league one!
  • its a horrific thought some of our made of glass "players" in Div 1--they will be hiding behind the sofa after 2 weeks
  • Has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 29 due to ongoing heart problems.

Sad.  That goal against derby will stay with us all

Unfortunately, so will the injury time dithering from 6 yards against millwall

  • Sorry for the lad and hope he gets the rehab he needs. Seemed to just be getting his career in track at last.

Sorry, but all the network players merge onto one. Can't really remember him and just another legacy from the RD regime.
  • I keep saying it: the goal against Bolton was the one. I'd say it's one of the best goals I've ever seen live from a Charlton player

Along with Polish Pete I thought he was one of the issues of the network ran by Roland... Both might be able to provide different sides to the story and didnt really want to be here either.

But felt both were shipped out far too quickly, Piotr certainly should have been sent on loan to English clubs to learn the game here rather than having to adapt to a new culture each loan move.

Its a shame to read this about George, he came from a wealthy family anyway (I read) so was simply doing something that he enjoyed, was decent at it too as he also got a few Champions League goals, albeit in qualifiers
  • Nick Pope not looking much like England's No1 there!

    A proper England keeper mistake...
