What's also quite worrying is that this has occurred in horses that have been vaccinated. I hope the symptoms aren't too serious (usually they aren't) and certainly hope this doesn't prove fatal.
Apparently it should not be too serious for horses that have been vaccinated (all horses in training) but could be dangerous for any horses that haven't.
Hopefully, this early action by the BHA will mean that it can be sorted quickly. Could well affect the preparation for some Cheltenham horses though with the festival less than 5 weeks away.

The bigger concern, of course, is that it's occurred in vaccinated horses.
And there's a "suspicious" case involving another southern-based trainer, apparently. (Someone said it was a Newmarket yard, but no idea if that's anywhere near the truth.)
Paddy Power running a market on whether the Festival starts on the 12th. Odds a few hours ago were 9/2 - bets were then suspended and the market's reopened at 2/1.

Same strain as what shut down oz racing for 6 months, hope all horses are okay. This could very much mean the end of the jumps season in the uk.
Not the same situation though, as horses in Britain are vaccinated against equine flu whereas in Australia they aren't. That was why racing had to be shut down for so long down under. Not so serious for any horses here that get it.

"This evening’s veterinary committee meeting has been extensive in order to ensure that a thorough risk assessment has been carried out. An announcement will be made as soon as possible tonight. We will provide an update on timing as soon as we are able."
The British Horseracing Authority has tonight announced a risk-managed return to racing will take place from Wednesday this week. Full statement to follow.
Two jumps and two all weather meetings go ahead on Wednesday. Think some of the trainers will be disappointed by this given some of them may well have horses lined up for Cheltenham prep runs and will run out of time to do so:
"As part of the controlled return, the BHA has developed a risk framework which allows us to
categorise individual trainers by the level of risk they have been exposed to. The ability of runners to return to racing from those yards will depend on the risk categories the yards are
placed in.
We are finalising overnight which category individual trainers will currently be placed in. The
BHA will contact trainers tomorrow morning to inform them of their category and eligibility to
run."
